Chapter 12

2101 Words
Today’s the day we we’re going to see my parents and I’m not sure if I’m scared or excited for that. Maybe a bit of both. When Alexander told me yesterday we were going to see them in a few days, I didn’t expect it do be immediately the next day. I mean this is the first time I’ll be seeing them since I left. He had told me early this morning we’d be going later today before he left me alone in bed, telling me he had stuff to do. After a late small breakfast I decided to pay him a visit, like I had been for the past weeks. I calmly made my way up the stairs, talking to a few pack members that I passed on the way. It just felt natural to greet them, ask them how they were and so forth and so on. I was just genuinely interested and my gut pushed me to ask anyway. So by the time I reached the fourth floor, almost an hour passed and I couldn’t wait to sit down on my usual spot in his office, and annoy him of course. It had become quite an addicting habit. I made my way through the hallway and my eyes instantly darted to his door, which was closed. That’s weird. His door would always be open whenever I came by.   My eyes moved back in front of me as Logan made his way to me, stopping a few steps in front of me. “Hey shortie, how are you doing?” he asked, a sweet smile on his lips. “I’m doing good, we talked it out”, I told him, motioning to Alexanders office door to my left. “That’s great, you definitely missed out yesterday. Drunk werewolves are always a guarantee for drama”, he laughed. “I’ll guess I’ll have to wait for the next bonfire. If you’re not too drunk then, you can show me all the drama”, I joked. “Of course, you’re like one of my favorite people anyway” he mused and I shook my head, both of us laughing. We both turned to the door when it flew open and a serious Alexander came out. “Hey”, I said but his eyes stayed on Logan. His jealousy is really gonna kill someone someday… “Alpha”, Logan greeted and nodded his head before rapidly walking away. Alexander however kept glaring and damn, if those looks could kill… I just shook my head and stepped forward, wanting to step into his office but he put his arm on my shoulder which prevented me from doing so. I looked at him but he just sighed and looked away from me. “I’m busy right now Victoria. I’ll see you later when we go see your parents”, he said, taking a few steps back and my eyebrows immediately scrunched together. He always let me stay, busy or not. Is this still about yesterday? “Okay”, I say softly, smiling at him but he didn’t look up, just went to sit at his desk. I took that as my cue and silently left the office. He’s probably just stressed about seeing my parents later. At least that’s what I hope…   I just went back downstairs, hoping I would find someone to talk to downstairs, it’s Saturday so it shouldn’t be too difficult. I walked into the dinning area and saw some familiar faces sitting at one of the tables as I expected. Logan, Amélie and Jill all turned to me when I approached their table and I quickly greeted them. “Hey Victoria, everything okay?” Jill asked when I sat down beside her. “I’m okay. Alexander just seemed a little off earlier”, I answered her honestly. “Yeah, I almost shrank back there. That was like a whole new level of possessive”, Logan overexaggerated and dramatically put his hand on his heart. “You did say I’m one of your favorites, maybe he heard?” “You i***t”, Amélie shook her head before hitting the back of his head. “You know, when I eventually get my mate I’d like to still have my head. Preferably still attached to my body”, he told her, rubbing the back of his head. “Ooh, but until then the back of that head is all mine to do with as I please”, she said and threw her arm around his shoulder, sinisterly smiling at him. “Tu est fou”, Logan mumbled, shaking his head. “As crazy as they come”, she smiled innocently at him. Honestly, they could make a tv show with all the catfights these two have. I turned to Jill and she seemed to have the same reaction as me. “Where is the rest?” I asked after a short comfortable silence. “I don’t know where Louis went and Veronica left a while ago. Said she needed to talk to someone”, Amélie shrugged. “Chris and Ashton already went to your parents. Alexander wanted to make sure it was absolutely safe when we go”, Logan told me and I nodded. “You’re going to see your parents today?” Amélie asked with a big pout. “Yeah, why?” “I wanted to hang out today”, she whined, crossing her arms like a little kid. “We can when I get back but I still need to ask Alexander when we’re leaving” “We’re leaving at 12”, Logan told me and I looked down at my watch. It’s already 11 so it might be smart to have lunch before we leave since it’s gonna be an hour long drive. I took my phone out, which felt weird since it had been a while, and looked for Alexanders number which was already saved.   -Hey, should I bring lunch up before we leave? - I typed and waited a few minutes to get his reply.   -I already ate, but thank you- And yet again, I got a weird feeling. Except for breakfast, because I always sleep in, we almost always eat together and even if he couldn’t, he’d always tell me… I just can’t help but feel that there’s something wrong.   -Okay, I see you later x- I messaged and waited for his reply, but none came. I decided to just eat with the others but I had kind off lost my appetite. During lunch I stayed quiet, not really feeling talkative but I just smiled and nodded whenever they would look at me. When it got close to 12 and Logan told me to quickly finish my food, I felt Amélie nudge me from under the table and looked up. “What’s wrong?” she asked quietly as she noticed I had been too silent. “It’s nothing”, I lied to her and put on a smile that I hoped was believable enough for her to drop it. I don’t want to start drama, I’m probably being dramatic anyway. “Well, tell me if that nothing does turn into a something”, she knowingly smiled at me before Logan and I got up and walked to the hallway. “He told me to meet here at 12”, Logan mumbled confused to himself when we walked into the empty hallway. “I’ll just go get him, be right back”, I said and started hopping up the stairs, not waiting for him to answer. I gotta say, my physique has gotten a lot better since I moved here. I mean I take 4 flights of stairs multiple times a day. I arrive at the fourth floor and step towards his office, stopping in front of his door. I quickly knock on the door before opening it, not really waiting for a reply. “Hey, we’re ready t-“, I started but stopped as soon as I locked eyes with a familiar brunette. “Hey girly”, Veronica chirped after she abruptly stood up from the chair that stood in front of the desk. I looked behind her at Alexander but my eyes immediately went to his desk where two empty  plates laid. So he ditched lunch with me to have it with Veronica. Alone. In his office. I looked back at Veronica when I realised I hadn’t said anything and just awkwardly smiled at her. “I guess I’ll see you later”, she said after a while and walked out off the office. I looked at the floor when I saw Alexander as he just kept his gaze down. Stop making a big deal out of this. They were just having lunch, jeez Victoria… Nothing is going on, you’re just being paranoid. I sighed and finally spoke “Are you ready to leave or do we go later?” I tried to speak as normally as I could since I’m probably just creating situations that aren’t there anyway. He finally looked up and smiled brightly at me. And just like that all my worries were out the window. I smiled back at him and he made his way over to me, holding his hand out. “Let’s go”, he said and I quickly took his hand before we made our way out.   The drive to my parents lasted incredibly long. Logan drove as Alexander and I sat in the back seat. I had hoped that I could talk to them but Alexander was constantly making phone calls and Logan was focused on the road which left me with only myself as entertainment. When we finally did arrive we drove up to a beautiful house that even kind off reminded me of my old house. It was a cosy two story house with red bricks surrounded by all sorts of plants and trees. I snapped my eyes of the house when I felt the car door open and looked at Alexander as he held the door open. I got out of the car and almost melted when I heard a familiar voice calling out for me. Turning to the house again, I saw my little brother running towards me and I could immediately feel the tears streaming over my cheeks. “Tori”, he called out again and almost flew into my arms. “Hey Jakey”, I whispered and tightly hugged my brother. Damn, I missed this brat. “I missed you”, I heard him say and it made me sob even harder. “I missed you more”, I said and finally looked up to see my mom and dad standing at the front door, looking at the two of us. I put Jake down and made my way over to my parents, throwing myself in their arms the moment I was close enough. “Hey sweetie”, my dad said, when me and my mom calmed down a bit. “Let’s get inside”, she said, wiping away her tears. My mom pulled me to her side and led me inside, dad following with the others. We all got inside and after a while my dad cleared his throat when everyone had stayed quiet. “Let’s go talk in my office, Victoria”, dad spoke and motioned for me to follow him. “I’ll make you guys some tea”, my mom spoke to Alexander and Logan, who followed after her but not before Alexander quickly threw a reassuring smile at me. Dad and I made our way to the office and we both sat down.   He cleared his throat and looked at me. “Now, I know that the past weeks have been quite confusing for you but your mother and I didn’t lie to hurt you, honey. We’ve been running from this life for 20 years and I need you to understand that we just wanted a normal a life for you and Jake. It’s all we ever wanted for you two”, he started, obviously having a hard time opening up. “Why did you and mom run away”, I asked confused. “My family has a peculiar way of doing things and growing up, I saw it all as normal. However when I met your mother, I started seeing the wrongs but it’s not a life you can just step out off”, he explained before pausing for a minute. “We had to sacrifice a lot to get away but I don’t regret it, not even for a second”, he added and I started thinking again. “What do you mean with ‘peculiar way of doings things?” I asked next since that answer was pretty vague to me. His answers really aren’t getting me anywhere. He frustratedly rubbed his forehead before he spoke again. “Do you know about other supernaturals, other than werewolves?” “Yes, I read about most of them”, I told him, not really sure where he was going with that question. “Did you read about hunters as well?” he asked after. “Yeah, they’re supposed to be the protectors of the supernaturals”, I told him as I thought back at what I had read in the book. I heard my dad huff before shaking his head lightly. His reaction reminds me a lot of Logan’s when I had read him that line. “So what about them?” I pushed when he stayed quiet. “You come from a family of hunters, Victoria”
