CHAPTER 8: THE PLAN

Five Years Ago. Meanwhile, in the inner room of Alpha Kegan's chambers, Marie sat across from her father, her eyes filled with curiosity and ambition. She had always been determined to secure her place beside Alpha Max, but the Omega, Eve, who she considered below her standard, had gotten a hold of his heart. As she sat there looking at her father, her father's words hinted at something far greater. She could sense her father was excited as she was anxious. "Father," Marie said, leaning forward, "you mentioned a plan. How do you intend to make me Queen of Alphas and unite the packs?" Alpha Kegan smiled, a glint of cunning in his eyes. "Marie, my dear, our pack's survival hinges on strategic alliances. By marrying Alpha Max, you will not only solidify our bond with his family but also position yourself as a key figure in the consolidation of power among the packs." “But that is not enough, the legality of my Queen's hip cannot lie in the marriage of Alpha Max alone. His pack is strong. Don't get me wrong, but that still does not make me queen.” “No one would question that. Not when I am King of Alphas first. I will simply declare you the queen,” Alpha Kegan boosted Marie listened intently as her father continued, his voice low and conspiratorial. "Once you are married to Max, we will leverage our combined strength to bring the other packs under our influence. The Midnight Pack will be the cornerstone of this new coalition. I have already begun to sow the seeds of unity among the other pack leaders, appealing to their desire for stability and prosperity." Marie raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "But how will we ensure they follow us?" Alpha Kegan leaned back, his eyes gleaming with the confidence of a man who had thought of everything. "I am planning something that will demonstrate our strength and resolve. A display of power that will leave no doubt about our capability to lead. Once the packs see what we are capable of, they will fall in line." Marie nodded slowly, her mind racing with the possibilities. "And once the packs are united, what then?" "Then," Kegan said with a triumphant smile, "you will be crowned Queen of Alphas, with Max as your First Alpha. Our rule will be undisputed, and the packs will thrive under our leadership. This is our destiny, Marie. Together, we will usher in a new era of strength and unity." Marie felt a surge of excitement and determination. She had always dreamed of power, and now it was within her grasp. "I'm ready, Father. Whatever it takes, I'll do it." Alpha Kegan placed a hand on her shoulder, pride, and ambition mingling in his gaze. "Good. Prepare yourself. The time is coming when we will make our move. Until then, we must ensure that nothing stands in our way." As Marie left the hall, her mind filled with visions of her future reign, Alpha Kegan turned his thoughts to the final piece of his plan. He knew that his plan seemed fragile, and he needed something concrete. If his smart daughter could see it, so could the Alphas. They were not dumb. He decided that it was time to create another beast. A beast that would listen to him and create the necessary chaos that would give him the ladder to rise above all others. Alpha Kegan stood in the shadowed chamber of the Seer. The seer, an old woman with eyes that seemed to pierce through time itself, stood before him, her squeezed hands moving deftly over a collection of old and funny symbols and mystical objects. The candlelight cast some funny and scary shadows on the stone walls, adding to the scary and odd atmosphere. "Are you certain this will work?" Kegan asked, his voice low and filled with a mix of anticipation and unease. The seer looked up, her gaze unwavering. "The ritual will bind the beast to your will, but remember, Alpha Kegan, the magic of this nature comes with a price." Kegan nodded, his determination unshaken. "I am prepared to pay it. The packs must see our strength. The beast will be the instrument of our dominance." The seer nodded and gestured towards a large stone altar in the center of the chamber. Lying on the altar, bound by heavy chains, was Eve's grandfather. He was unconscious, a result of the powerful sedatives administered to ensure his compliance during the ritual. With a series of incantations, the seer began the ritual. The air crackled with energy as ancient words filled the room, and the symbols on the floor glowed with an otherworldly light. The seer’s hands moved with precision, drawing out the dark magic that would transform the old man into a fearsome beast. Kegan watched intently as the transformation took place. Eve's grandfather's body convulsed, his form shifting and contorting in ways that defied nature. His skin darkened and thickened, muscles bulging and bones lengthening. With a final, agonizing roar, the transformation was complete. The beast stood before them, a towering creature of immense power and ferocity. Will he be a werewolf or beast?” asked the concerned Alpha Kegan. “He is whatever you want him to be. He is a man, a werewolf, and a beast,” the Seer said. Alpha Kegan smiled, perfect, just perfect,” he said. The seer stepped back, her voice calm but firm. "The beast is yours to command, but remember, Alpha Kegan, it is bound by the same blood that flows through Eve. One of them, or both of them, will die if they face each other, but should she discover its true nature, the bond could be broken." Kegan nodded, stepping forward to gaze at the creature. "It will serve its purpose well. Thank you, seer. Now, tell me how to control it." The seer handed him a scroll, ancient and fragile. "This contains the secrets of the beast. Study it well, for it holds the key to your victory." As Kegan took the scroll, a thought crossed his mind, it was a loose end that needed tying. With a swift movement, he drew his dagger and plunged it into the seer's heart. She gasped, her eyes widening in shock and pain before she collapsed to the floor and lay lifeless. "Thank you for your service," Kegan muttered, wiping the blade clean. "But I cannot afford any loose ends." He turned to leave, confident that the seer was dead. However, as he exited the chamber, he failed to notice the faint, flickering light that returned to her eyes. The seer was not so easily killed; her powers and knowledge ran deep, and she would have her revenge. Outside, the beast roared and thrashed, breaking free from the chains that had bound it. Kegan watched in satisfaction as it disappeared into the forest, a living weapon that would soon instill fear and respect in the hearts of the other packs. Kegan returned to his quarters, the scroll clutched tightly in his hand. He studied its contents meticulously, learning the commands and control spells that would ensure the beast's loyalty. With this knowledge, he felt invincible. The packs would unite under his rule, and his daughter Marie would ascend as the Queen of Alphas, with Max as her consort. Unknown to Kegan, the seer’s death was not as final as he believed. As he plotted and planned, the seer began her slow recovery, her mind already turning towards vengeance and the unraveling of Kegan’s schemes.
