Pounding on his door jolted him awake. What? He glanced around, found the clock. Who was at his door in the middle of the night? He knew his father’s McLeod Spirits agent had paid the rent for the school year. He had barely met anyone, except a nervous graduate student across the hall and he couldn’t even remember her name. The pounding got louder. “I’m coming, I’m coming. Don’t wake up the building, I’m coming.” Calder slipped on a robe and threw the door open. The hall was empty, until he heard a deep voice at his feet. Calder looked down; the frog looked up. “You promised to take me with you. You promised that I could eat and drink with you. You promised to let me sleep next to you. You promised me all that if I dove down and fetched your rose quartz ball. Take me to your bed here.”
