I roll over for the hundredth time, unable to fall asleep. Outside the rain is pouring down onto the house, a sound that normally aids me in falling asleep, but tonight it does nothing. After a few more minutes of laying in complete darkness I get up and turn my light on. Despite the rain, I feel the sudden urge to go for a walk, hoping that the exercise would force me to sleep when I come back.
I quickly put on my leggings and then slide on my heavy rain boots and a wind resistant jacket. I brush my hair into a ponytail and grab the poncho Ivory left over earlier. After tearing apart my closet I find a hat and head wrap to cover my headphones in my ear from the rain.
Once my phone, keys, and wallet are in my backpack I begin walking down the driveway. I decide on the short mile to the gas station as my walk. My music is playing in my ears, and I lift my face up to feel the water falling onto my bare face.
Every few minutes headlights blind me for a moment, and then disappear into the darkness. When I'm trying to decide between picking up a ginger ale or cream soda, a rough pull yanks me onto the ground. I hit the cement, my lower back aching with pain. My headphones fall onto the ground and I look around wildly, not seeing anyone near me.
Panic courses through me as I stumble to my feet, ready to make a run for the gas station, when I'm pushed back down again, this time onto my hands and knees. A growl rips through the air and I scream as I look back up, face to face with a large wolf. I freeze, not knowing what to do. I am no match for the huge animal staring me in the face.
The wolf growls again, his mouth opening to expose his razor sharp teeth. I shudder as it hisses at me. I wait for the attack, but the wolf's huge head snaps up, looking behind me. He backs up from in front of me and begins circling. The wolf begins howling and growling loudly, as if giving a warning to something.
I look up, squinting to make out a figure coming towards us.
"Get away from her" My jaw drops as I see Alec approaching the growling wolf and I.
"Alec run" I say.
