KOOKIE: I sense something is wrong when I see Dad walk out of the kitchen, so I leave Mum and Blue, who have done quite the catch-up the entire night. On getting to the kitchen, I find Elias’s face drenched in water with a frown etched on it. My legs move involuntarily, and I stop in front of him. “What happened?” “Nothing,” he answers flatly, before getting a glimpse of the expression on my face. His face loosens a bit, then he lets out a sigh. “I was just clumsy,” he replies, dropping what is left of the bottle of water on the counter before grabbing a paper towel to wipe his face. I stand there, watching him, wondering what transpired between the two of them. I am so caught up with my mum and Blue that I didn’t notice my father following Elias into the kitchen. “We should head back
