Standing in the doorway to the cell, I rapped my knuckles on one of the steel bars as if it were a door.
"What are you doing?" Jake looked at me sideways as if I'd just lost my mind.
"Can I come in?"
"Ah, I suppose you have to make do with knocking on the bars when there is no door to speak of." He motioned for me to enter.
"I wanted to thank you for everything you did yesterday, " I started telling him. "If it wasn't for you, I'd be dead."
"I don't know, you looked pretty badass taking my father on." He patted the mattress beside him, letting me know I could take a seat if I wanted.
