Clyde POV
I just stared at him, dumbfounded.
And suddenly, he busted out laughing like a manic for God forsaken third time, arching his back until his gaping mouth faced the ceiling. His normally pale skin turned beetroot bright, matching his ginger hair, and not a second later, a loud thud echoed upon his fall from... No, with the chair.
THUD! It echoed across the chilly white marble floor.
"How did I have someone like him as a Beta?" Pinching the bridge of my nose, I turned away and fixed my collar.
The crowds, their eyes burnt through me as they watched in delight at the free show playing on my back. Some cackled, some snickered, some shook their heads and the most obvious one was the young ones, they laughed openly.
God, this is embarrassing.
I don't know him.
I don't know...
"Clyde! Dude! Wait up!"
Fedric called, scampering to catch me in my attempt to leave him behind, but damn, the dude is big and fast.
"Wait up!"
I was propelled forward by the impact of Fedric snaking his arms around me. "Don't tell me you plan to leave me behind, again? That ain't happening again, man. The last time was truly my mishap, but not this time around. The same mistake won't happen twice. Not when I am sober. Talking about sober. Look at this."
And he is loquacious. Chatterbox at times.
Again, I pinched the bridge of my nose.
"Get off," I grunted and shrugged his overly friendly hand off my shoulders.
"No, Dude. This is for real. She's a wholesome... woman," Fed whistled.
Before Fed could show me whatever mess he intended to, an attendant came to greet us and opened the gate's door wide. "Welcome Mr. Rosewood. Welcome to you too, Mr. Lavendler." She purred.
"Hey there, Gorgeous." Fed winked, and a pass was handed.
If my ears could bleed, they would have already bled. 'You should learn a trick or two from him. Getting laid and...' 'And get people killed by us?'
Cutting my wolf, guilt flashed, but he knows, my wolf, North, knows.
'Yeah, yeah. I know. Commando. Maybe we could stop from sitting in iced water or even the ice-chilled waterfall for once when it's that time of the month,' North teased.
'What was it you said before?' I looked inwardly at the staring spirit. Its golden beastly eyes narrowed in amusement, just like it always been.
Sharp and cold, but as of lately, he started to talk a lot.
Was it because of age?
We had been together for decades. More like three decades.
'It made you feel like a Saint,' I scoffed.
North howled gleefully.
"May you both have a safe flight," the attendant said briefly, pulling me away from the conversation with North.
"Let's continue where we were before," Fed continued just as we set foot on the plane. I didn't miss out the part where he shoved a piece of paper into his pocket.
'Dude's gonna get laid when we get back here again,' North's laughter echoed with a smirk.
He cut me off midway from my seat and shoved his phone onto my chest. "Come on. This one is to die for."
Our eyes locked, 'Come on. I put a bet that this will make your day. Come on, man. When did I ever fail to make you laugh?'
This dude. He even mind-linked me for something so trivial. And matters worse, he will keep pestering me until I agree to see this... Whatever this is on his phone.
"Fine," I agreed.
All jumpy, Fed leaped across my seat and leaned into my face.
"Here. Enjoy. I compiled the clips all together. Starting from the starting line until the finish line," Fed said proudly.
'Hurry and play it,' North cut in, and the duality in control seeped through my eyes.
I tapped the triangle on the screen, and it showed the hallway, almost similar to what I walked through minutes ago, but the difference was...
A woman was running across it, slipping through the frantic guards who failed miserably to stop her.
North whistled as the woman slid her body beneath a guard and shot straight back up, sliding down the elevator and hopped across the bodies waiting below.
'She's slick...'
It looked so smooth like those in the movie, but it isn't. This is the reality.
"Wait for the best part," Fed interrupted, and he was right.
The woman seemed to reach her gate, but it was blocked by a dozen guards. They stood there like a wall, and approached her slowly, but the woman. Her eyes weren't on the guards.
From the inclining and gestures she made rashly, her eyes were deadlocked on the plane.
"Let me board it! I checked in online. An hour before the departure! You have no right to cancel my reservation under such blatant lies!" Somehow, I could make up the words she was shouting about.
And then... the desperation.
"Move," The woman threatened the guards.
Her eyes went back and forth between the window, showing the plane and the entrance. Time ticked, and she finally made a move.
"Don't say I didn't warn you."
What transpired next was probably the act that got Fed rolling. The guards were beaten like a child in the park playing wrestling against a pro fighter. No, it was more like a newbie bully getting his butt kicked by an MMA fighter.
Split splat.
Even North came whistling, amused by the smoothness of the woman.
"The gal got guts like wolf."
I inclined my head, resting it against my fist and bit my lips for the smile that seemed to grow. Not for laughter, but something... something that I couldn't explain.
When all the walls broke down, instead of moving forward, the woman froze.
An ah, escaped my lips as the woman followed the departing plane through the window. Her hands were pressed with tremor, and she fell along the glass, and onto the floor.
"Guess what? My senses told me that she is a human, and she is! I did a quick check on her identity. A human, dude. A human!" Fed snatched his phone and leaned back.
"What happened next?"
Surprised by my question, Fed gave me a bewildered look and the eye.
"Really?" Fed snickered, and when I didn't answer, "Are you into a crazy woman? Don't be mad, I was only asking and teasing since you... you, the only Rosewood who barely looks at one, is finally into someone."
"Shut up."
That mere foolish question got Fed bawling his eyes out, and I kicked my front foot onto his chair. "Get out of my sight, man."
His bemused laughter grew.
"Jabbed me when the day came where I chose a crazy woman over all the sane ones out there,"
...
Thick clouds surrounded the skyscraper.
Having owned the entire 30-storey building, it still made no difference each time I stepped into this office brimming with a tad too bright lights from all edges with no window overlooking whatever was beyond and, worse, the one-way entrance and exit.
The team gathered around had their faces covered by a full mask while some covered half, blocking the facial expression, but that didn't soothe the atmosphere.
I tried my best to hide away the heavy breathing kicking to escape my lungs.
I did, but the clouds of smoke puffing an inch away from my nose showed me that I failed miserably. And yes, I failed. I failed them.
Even the hammering of my heartbeat banged against my chest spelled each failure.
"... three of them were taken away. A werewolf pup, a half-blood witch and..." Miranda, the executive for the operation, stopped midway and looked briefly before looking at Operation Head, the Gamma, Flint Lockchester.
Some mental notes seemed to exchange, and I did not use my authority to peak and overheard them.
Just from the tension, it seemed to be something very important.
"Alpha Clyde," Flint went over to my side and split the report in my hand, placing the last page on top where it showed details of the kidnapped younglings.
Flint cleared his throat.
"The last one, Alpha. It was a half-blood werewolf."
"Nothing surprising. So, what's with the tension?" I finally asked and thankfully, my voice didn't failed me.
Flint tapped the report, and the tension was answered as I laid my eyes on the image of a young boy with round and blushy-puffed cheeks, but the dominant trait was his eyes.
The eyes staring back at me was... mine.
