CHAPTER 1

Liam adjusted his glasses, pushing them up the bridge of his nose as he scanned the coffee shop menu. His broad shoulders and muscular arms stretched against the seams of his simple button-up shirt. He wasn’t one to frequent places like this, but his best friend had insisted he needed to "get out more." As he stepped forward to order, a sultry voice purred behind him. "Well, well, look at this. A handsome giant lost in a coffee shop." Liam stiffened. He turned his head slightly, and his breath caught. She was stunning—dark, wavy hair cascading over her shoulders, a tight red dress hugging every curve, and a playful smirk on her glossy lips. Her eyes sparkled with mischief. "I-I’m not lost," he muttered, adjusting his glasses again. She leaned in, her fingers trailing lightly over his thick bicep. "Could’ve fooled me." He swallowed hard. No woman had ever been this forward with him. He was used to being admired from afar—girls giggling, whispering, but never stepping into his space like this. "What's your name, handsome?" "L-Liam," he stammered. She grinned, clearly enjoying his flustered state. "Liam. I like that. I’m Vanessa. And I think I just found my new favorite coffee shop." Liam cleared his throat, shifting awkwardly. "I should—uh—order." Vanessa pouted dramatically. "Oh, don’t let me stop you. I love watching a man order his coffee. It's sexy." His ears burned. "I—uh—what?" She giggled, biting her lip. "Relax, big guy. I don’t bite… unless you ask me to." Liam nearly choked on air. She tilted her head, eyes trailing over him shamelessly. "You work out, don’t you?" "I—uh, yeah, I guess." She took a step closer, placing a hand on his chest, feeling the solid muscle beneath. "Mmm. Figures. A man like you… tall, strong, and yet—" she leaned in, whispering, "innocent." Liam was frozen in place. No woman had ever looked at him like this. It was thrilling. Overwhelming. Vanessa winked. "You intrigue me, Liam. Tell me something—do you have a girlfriend?" His heart pounded. "N-no." Her smile widened. "Good. That means I get to have all the fun." He wasn’t sure what she meant, but the way she licked her lips sent a shiver down his spine. Liam had a feeling his life was about to get a lot more… interesting. Liam finally managed to order his coffee, his hands slightly trembling as he passed the cashier his card. He could still feel Vanessa’s presence beside him—too close, too intoxicating. As he stepped aside to wait for his drink, she leaned against the counter, her body positioned just right to make his brain short-circuit. “So, Liam,” she said, tracing the rim of her cup with a perfectly manicured finger. “Tell me, how does a guy like you stay single? I mean, look at you—tall, built like a god, and those glasses?” She sighed dramatically. “A deadly combination.” Liam adjusted them again, his face growing warmer. “I—I don’t really… go out much.” Vanessa’s lips curled into a knowing smirk. “Ah, I see. A homebody. A shy one. That makes you even cuter.” Liam wasn’t sure how to respond. He wasn’t shy, was he? He just wasn’t used to… this. His coffee arrived, and as he reached for it, Vanessa’s fingers brushed against his. The contact sent a jolt up his arm. She noticed. “Oh?” She tilted her head, eyes dancing with amusement. “Did I just make you shiver, Liam?” “I—I think that was just… the air conditioning.” She laughed, a low, teasing sound. “Right. Air conditioning.” He grabbed his cup, desperate for an escape. But before he could flee, she stepped in front of him, blocking his path with that sinfully curvy body. “Hey, don’t run away now,” she teased, pressing a hand against his chest. “I was just getting started.” Liam swallowed. Hard. “I—I have to get back to work.” “Work?” Her fingers tapped against his chest playfully. “What do you do?” “I’m an engineer.” Her eyes widened. “Brains and brawn? Oh, Liam, you are a dangerous man.” He blinked. “I—I don’t think that’s true.” She leaned in, her voice dropping to a sultry whisper. “It is. You just don’t know it yet.” Liam had no idea what she meant, but the way she was looking at him made his stomach twist into knots. Then, before he could process it, Vanessa took his phone straight out of his hand. “W-what are you doing?” he stammered. She smirked, typing something quickly before handing it back. “There,” she said. “Now you have my number.” Liam stared at his screen. Sure enough, “Vanessa” was saved in his contacts. She winked. “Call me, big guy. I promise you won’t regret it.” And just like that, she sauntered out of the coffee shop, leaving Liam standing there, gripping his cup like it was the only thing keeping him upright. He exhaled shakily, running a hand through his thick hair. What the hell had just happened? Liam stared at the name on his phone screen, his pulse still unsteady. Vanessa. The tiny sparkle emoji somehow made it even more surreal. “Dude.” Liam turned to see his best friend, Jake, grinning at him from a nearby table. His arms were crossed, a knowing look on his face. “What the hell was that?” Liam exhaled sharply, running a hand over his face. “I… I have no idea.” Jake chuckled, shaking his head. “Man, you looked like a deer in headlights. She was all over you.” Liam adjusted his glasses, his ears still warm. “Yeah, no kidding.” Jake leaned forward. “And? You gonna call her?” Liam glanced down at his phone. He wasn’t sure. Women didn’t usually throw themselves at him like that. He was used to admiration from a distance, but Vanessa had walked right up and turned his world upside down in a matter of minutes. “I don’t know,” Liam admitted. Jake scoffed. “Bro. That woman was a walking fantasy. She wants you. Are you seriously hesitating?” Liam took a sip of his coffee, buying himself time. “She’s… intense.” Jake snorted. “And you’re you. What, are you scared she’ll eat you alive?” Liam didn’t answer. Because, honestly? He wasn’t sure she wouldn’t. That Night Liam sat on his couch, his laptop open on his coffee table, but he hadn’t typed a single line of code in the past twenty minutes. His phone sat beside him, Vanessa’s name practically glowing on the screen. He had never been great at this part. Initiating things. Taking risks. He was logical, methodical—a planner. And Vanessa? She was the opposite of all of that. But maybe that was why he should call her. Before he could overthink himself into oblivion, he grabbed his phone and dialed. It rang once. Twice. Then— “Well, well. Look who finally decided to be brave.” Liam swallowed. Her voice was just as teasing, just as sultry over the phone as it had been in person. “Uh—hey.” She laughed softly. “Adorable. So, tell me, Liam. Did you spend all day thinking about me?” His face burned. “I—um—” “Oh, don’t be shy. I like it,” she purred. “It’s cute.” Liam cleared his throat. “I just… figured I’d call. Like you said.” “Mmm. Good boy.” His breath hitched. Good boy? Vanessa giggled. “You like that, don’t you?” “I—uh—” “Relax, Liam,” she murmured. “I don’t bite… not on the first date.” He inhaled slowly, trying to get his heart rate under control. “So… is that what this is? A date?” “That depends,” she said. “Are you asking me out?” His stomach twisted. He wasn’t used to this kind of back-and-forth. But something about her made him want to keep up. “Yeah,” he said before he could stop himself. “I am.” There was a pause. Then— “Good answer.” Liam let out a breath he hadn’t realized he was holding. Vanessa hummed. “Tell you what, big guy. Meet me tomorrow night. Eight o’clock. I’ll text you the place.” He hesitated. “Shouldn’t I be the one picking the spot?” She laughed. “Oh, Liam. Sweet, innocent Liam.” His pulse jumped. “Trust me,” Vanessa whispered. “You’ll want me to be in control.” Liam gripped his phone a little tighter. "Okay.” “Good boy,” she murmured again, sending another shiver down his spine. Then the call ended. Liam sat there, staring at his phone, heart pounding. What the hell had he just gotten himself into?
