It was a good start, I figured, but Emmett’s face told me it had just scratched the surface. "I needed someone to show me the way. Someone to help me grow into a man. And that didn’t mean telling me when I’d done something wrong." I took a breath. "My brother showed me what I should be like by being the kind of person I knew I wanted to be. I can’t tell you how he did it, or how he knew what to do. He was only six when our parents died, so it wasn’t like he was a lot further along than I was." I shrugged and waved a hand. "He wasn’t perfect. He was a kid, too. Sometimes I made him mad, or he made me mad. But the most important thing was that even when we were mad, he was still there for me.
