LYRA’S POV
“You f*****g ingrate.” I spat out. My hands were clenched tight and my eyes never left Darius. The look on my face was no doubt terrifying as my snarl was downright demonic. No doubt my eyes were glowing with my rage. “After everything I’ve done for you, Darius, you shame me like this.”
Darius scoffed, pulling his arm out of Selene’s hold. “Shame you? How? By bringing in the love of my life as part of my pack? I am not the first Alpha to bring in a second spouse, Lyra, and I won’t be the last.”
“Yes, that might be so, but you forget one tiny detail: none of them had Mates. I am your Mate recognised by the Goddess herself and yet you dare disgrace me like this! Are you f*****g mad?!”
My rage could no longer be contained and i just let it all rip – not giving mind to the fact that I was behaving irresponsible.
“Have this disgusting w***e sucked your f*****g sense through your c**k to make you behave this f*****g stupid?!”
“Watch how you speak to me, Lyra! I am your Alpha!”
“And I am your f*****g Luna but you sure as hell don’t f*****g respect me as such!”
“My Lady, please...”
Mirai grabbed my arm but I ripped it out of her hold.
“You are standing where you are right now because of me, Darius! You enjoy this f*****g position because of me!” I slapped my chest. “When your f*****g brother tried to usurp your birth right, I stood by you and did my duty to support you as your Luna! I fought and suppressed the uprising by your side! My father’s friends supported you because you’re my f*****g Mate! What haven’t I given to you Darius that you still aren’t satisfied?! My dignity? My pride? My heart? I gave them all to you and you ripped them to shreds!”
Without my consent, tears started rolling down my cheeks and to be honest, I didn’t know if they were of rage or relief that all that I’ve been bottling up was finally being released.
“I had decide to look away from your frolicking with Selene, remembering the fact that before I came into the picture it was her who you loved and wanted to get married to. I had had hope that with our marriage, you’d put aside any feelings for her and make our arrangement work, but that was a pipe dream. I had decided to over look so many of your failures Darius but this! Never! Over my dead body will you bring this w***e into this household!”
“Then prepare your coffin then because I am marrying her weather you like it or not.” Darius started coldly, staring at me with nothing but content. “You should be grateful to me, Lyra, because where you stand is because of me. I put aside the fact that I didn’t love you and did my duty – but I am suffering because of it. I am an Alpha and I deserve to enjoy like one.”
I laughed hysterically, the sound sharp and filled with disbelief. “And do you think I love you, Darius? You are my bane, the f*****g shackles ties around my ankles and wrists and neck – but i bear with it for the honour of my pack. I never hoped for love in this sham of a marriage but what I least expected was f*****g respect but instead all I’ve gotten was scars and shame from you. I am sick of it!” I hissed out, the tears having stopped falling.
“And I am sick of you being called my Mate, Lyra! I wish you never were! I wish the Goddess never cursed me with your existence, Lyra!”
Those words were like a slap to my face. Darius seemed to realize what he just uttered and moved to correct himself. But if dint give him the chance.
The words that I’d held tightly to myself for years came rushing back into my mind, taking up a front seat. Finally, I get to say those words and set myself free from this nightmare.
“Then let me grant your wish, Darius.” My voice was bland and cold as ice, and my eyes and facial expression was void of any emotions. I lifted my right hand and I pointed my finger at Darius. “Under the new moon granted by the Goddess and under her watchful gaze, I, Lyra Winters, daughter of Loran Winters, of sound mind and clear desire, reject you, Darius Lupin, as my Mate.”
Gasps rang out in the hall and a heavy presence settled in the room.
“My Lady, that is enough!” An elderly man yelled out, a hand outstretched at her. “If you go further, the Goddess would sever the Mateship between the Lord and yourself!”
Darius snapped his head towards me, his eyes wide with horror. Even Selene and my useless cousin looked surprise.
“Lyra, wait!”
“Lyra!”
Both Darius and Shiran called out, trying to make their way to me. But I continued. I had had enough.
“I renounce our marriage. I renounce our Mateship and I renounce our ties. With my claws as substitute for the Goddess’ sword, I cut the link between you and I! From this day hence forth we are nothing to each other.” I grew out my claws and without hesitation I grabbed by nape. “So mote it be.”
“No!”
Various voices rang out but I paid them no heed. With a yell, I ripped off skin and flesh, permanently removing the Mate Mark on my person.
Something seemed to snap and the faint link between I and Darius was cut off. I watched with glee as the Alpha fell to his knees with a pain filled scream, his hand holding his chest. Selene, who were close to him, rushed to his side.
“What... what have you done?!”
