LYRA’S POV
I turned my head to face Shiran, who was looking at me with horror. I pushed back the feeling of the agonising pain to the back of my mind. It was taking all my willpower to remain standing and to not collapse onto my knees and wail in pain and heartbreak.
With a shrug, I said, “I gave my husband what he wanted. Well, ex-husband now.”
I threw the clump of flesh at Darius feet, causing Selene and a handful of ladies present to squeak at the bloody sight. Blood had my clothes clinging to my back and my hand was soaked with it. My healing factor was once again coming into play but it was slow to my liking. But then again Darius’ bite had taken three days to heal and I just ripped said bite from my neck. Also, I just created a wound in a very sensitive area. It was a miracle that I’m even still functioning.
“Ly... Lyra...” Darius panted out, his face twisted in pain. “This...”
“Is exactly what you wished for. I just gave it to you.” I coolly said. “From this moment henceforth, we mean nothing to each other. You can freely marry your beloved Selene, it is now, officially, none of my business. I wish you two the best of luck.”
And with that I headed towards the door, Mirai following after me – leaving behind the broken shackles that held me down and the ripped out flesh that had been the key to my freedom. No one dared to utter a word as I left, all of them still in shock or disbelief.
When the doors closed behind me, I collapsed into Mirai’s waiting arms. My legs could no longer hold my weight and the paralysing pain was catching up to me.
“My Lady...”
“It had to be done, Mirai.” I panted out, sweat forming on my forehead. “Do not blame yourself for even if you were the one to find out those words and tell me, it was still my choice to utter them. I am finally free Mirai.”
My eyes shone with happy tears, and that seemed to make her relax a little. We both went tensed when a door was opened and I left Mirai’s arms. I had no wish to make anyone see me weak in such a state. They’d see me leave this place with my head raised high.
“What the f**k is wrong with you, Lyra?!” Shiran yelled out, walking over to us with an enraged look. “Do you have any idea what you have done?”
“Free myself?” I snarled with a c****d brow.
“Do not get clever with me.” He hissed, grabbing my wrist – the hand that wasn’t stained with my blood. “You have f****d things up with your petty nature. What do you think father will say?!”
I scoffed, rolling my eyes. “Like I give a shit.” That seemed to stun him. I pulled my wrist free from his hold and gave him a sneer. “Whatever goes on in either pack is none of my business. You all can take care of yourselves.”
Those words had him enraged again. “You think everything will be okay after what you’ve done? What you just pulled?! Lyra-“
“Oh, shut the f**k up.” I snapped, rolling my eyes. “Save me your indignation, you hypocrite. I know your hands are in the stunt that fool in there just pulled.” Shiran stuttered, trying to defend himself. “Did you have fun?” I cut him off, cooking my head to the side ea little – and causing a sharp pain to flare down my spine. “Did you enjoy your little show of mischief. I know you did, seeing as you were laughing in the background with an amused and smug look.”
Shiran’s expression looked like one a child would make after being caught red handed.
“You know, I still don’t get why you hate me, Shiran, after all, I never gave you reason to. But honestly, at this point, I don’t care. At the end of the day, you’re just a pathetic excuse of an upcoming Alpha who’d end up being a useless investment.
Shiran’s eyes flashed with rage and he made a move to raked his claw down my face – but Mirai caught his hand, her hold on his wrist punishing. He winced as she increased the intensity of it and I swear I could hear bones cracking.
“Let him go, Mirai. We are done here.”
Mirai threw his hand back, causing him to stumble back a little, holding his hand to his chest.
“Have fun explaining to your father on how you abetted in this wonderful this catastrophe, Shiran. Best of luck to you.”
And with that, I and Mirai walked away – the both of us feeling Shiran’s stare on our back. When we had gone far and we could no longer sense anyone’s presence, I allowed myself to once again fall into Mirai’s hold. She picked me up into a bridal carry and before I knew it, she was dashing out of the annex building and over to the main Manor in a speed that would be hard to catch – her steps silent. In a matter of minutes I found myself in my room being taken care of by Mirai and the others. My clothes were being pulled off my body and I was being submerged in a tub of warm water. A gentle hand cleaned my wound and after I was cleaned of blood and with a clean towel wrapped around my injury, I was picked up from the tub and carried over to my bed.
So many voice spoke over each other and my consciousness was getting blurred. It was when a sweet smelling ointment was placed upon my wound, which caused unimaginable pain to go through me, that I finally lost the battle with fighting off the sweet embrace of Morpheus.
