CHAPTER 6 LYRA’S POV It took a full day for my wound to close up but and it took another day for my fever to break and for me to wake up. Not only was it still sore, it hurt like hell. The bandage around my neck had been changed like twenty times already to avoid me getting any infection. Word have spread about what went down in the gathering and Mirai was informing me what went occurred when I was down for the count for a whole day. “The elders are on his neck and are demanding that he fixes what his stupidity had caused. Not like the fool is listening anyways. He says that you should be the one apologising to him, saying you disgraced him in the presence of powerful people.” Both of us snorted in unison, Mirai sneering in disdain whilst I rolled my eyes in exasperation. “Of course.” I chuckled. “Honestly, they’re not tongue lashing him enough if he still thinks he has the high ground. “With what I’m hearing so far, all the late Master’s allies are ready to cut off the Lupin pack after the revelation that night.” “That’s to be expected.” I leaned back against the fluffy pillows that plopped me up. “Their loyalty to father has transferred to me and whatever fate changing decision I make they’d accept. Thank you, love.” I accepted the plate of apples Mirai had peeled and cut. I threw one into my mouth and started chewing, enjoying the juicy goodness that graced my tongue. “I knew you can handle yourself, my Lady, but there’s one person I’m not so sure off.” I paused in my chewing. “My father’s brother.” Mirai gave a curt nod. “I fear of his reaction to this news. He might punish you harshly for this.” Mirai’s concern was justified, after all Lucas Winters wasn’t a man to be f****d with. He was the opposite of my late father. Whilst father was compassionate, Lucas was ruthless and deadlier. He killed and asked questions later. Anyone who challenged his authority was cut down like a measly cattle. He didn’t care about anything but his tight hold of his position. It was no wonder Shiran was a miserable man in his 20s. If he’d showed love and care to his heir, maybe Shiran wouldn’t be an asshole of such proportion. But then again it was Shiran, so its a 80/20 possibility that he’d have turned out to be an asshole anyways. “What news have you heard?” “Alpha Lucas is snuffing the final flames off of the sudden insurgency. I’d heard whisper that a raven from Shiran about the current situation had been sent and by my calculations, I’d have gotten to him by now.” “But if he deemed it unimportant and the situation he’s currently in, he wouldn’t see the missive on time. And seeing as it would be for Shiran and the situation about me, he wouldn’t take it serious. And I doubt he’d inform his father about the happenings on paper. Which gives us so much time.” My lips spread into a large grin. “Time to do what my lady?” I turned my eyes onto Mirai and gave her a blinding smile. “Time to leave and get far away from here as possible.” “My Lady...” “We can leave tonight, Mirai.” I dropped the plate onto the bed and held her hand. “We can leave all these behind. No more glided cages. No more idiots who test our limits daily. We’d finally be free. Free to do whatever we want. We can finally fulfil our childhood dreams of exploring the continent. We can even head over to another if we get bored of this one.” “Lyra...” “If its money you’re worried about, I’ve got that covered. I have lots of money hidden and I still remember father’s hidden stashes in various places. They’d last us for years and sponsor our new lifestyle.” Mirai shook her head, giving me a small smile. “I’m not worried about money, Lyra. Have you forgotten who adopted me? My father, just like yours, also has secret stashes which I know of. What I am worried about is you, Lyra. You haven’t fully recovered yet and I fear you’d break down.” “I’ve had worse, Mi. This is nothing.” “But it isn’t.” “I know.” I heaved a tired sigh. “But if I don’t leave here soon, my efforts of attaining freedom would be all for nothing. Please, Mirai. Let’s leave tonight.” I looked into her eyes pleadingly. After some few moments, Mirai nodded – her eyes never leaving mine. “Okay. We would leave tonight.” Relief like no other washed over me. “Oh, thank you!” I pulled her into a hug. “I can’t do this without you, Mirai. Thank you so much!” Mirai gave a fond huff, returning the hug. “Anything for you, my Lady.” I pulled back, a happy grin still splitting my lips. “I’ll start arranging the stash I have on me in my room. We’ll travel light, only the clothes on our back and a bag carrying our valuables. When we get to a safe place, we’d decide where to go from there.” “Don’t worry my Lady. As long as I am with you, our escape will be smooth.” She squeezed my hand. “But for now, you must rest.” She glanced at the clock by the corner. “Ti’s almost midday now. The doctor is on his way to check up on you.” I squeezed her hand back in thanks and before I could say anything, the doors to my thrown open and in walked in two people I had no desire to see – with the doctor at their heels, pleading for them to stop. “Tsk. I knew I was hearing more than one person approaching.” Mirai muttered under her breath, he brows fighting – and losing – the battle not to furrow in disdain. I heaved a sigh and faced my ex-Mate and my cousin. “And to what do I owe the displeasure of your presences?”
