MIRA’S POV
The entire ride to the hotel was silent. Painfully silent. The luxurious city of Dubai flashed outside the tinted windows towering skyscrapers, glowing billboards, expensive cars, but I saw none of it. All I could see was her face.
That woman.
And the little boy.
My chest tightened painfully as I replayed the moment David saw them. The fear on his face had not been normal. It wasn’t confusion. It wasn't a surprise. It was panic, pure panic.
Beside me, David stared down at his phone, typing quickly before locking the screen the second he noticed me watching him. My stomach twisted.
“Who were you texting?” I asked quietly.
He didn’t answer immediately.
“Business,” he muttered finally.
Business? I almost laughed. On our honeymoon? I turned my face toward the window again, blinking hard against the tears gathering in my eyes. I hated this feeling. I hated how quickly my happiness was falling apart. Just hours ago, I had felt like the luckiest woman alive. Now I felt like a fool.
The car finally stopped in front of one of the most luxurious hotels I had ever seen. Golden lights reflected against the massive glass building while uniformed staff rushed forward to open our doors.
"Welcome, sir, ma’am."
I stepped out slowly, my heels touching the polished ground. The hotel was beautiful, but my heart was too heavy to admire it. David reached for my hand. I pulled away before I could stop myself. His jaw tightened slightly.
"Mira," he warned softly.
I swallowed hard. "I just want the truth."
"You’re overthinking this."
"There she was again, David!" My voice cracked. "At our wedding and now in Dubai? Do you think I’m stupid?"
Several hotel staff glanced toward us. David forced a smile at them before grabbing my wrist tightly and leading me toward the elevator. The moment the elevator doors closed, his expression changed completely.
"Can you stop creating a scene?" he snapped under his breath. I stared at him in shock.
"A scene?" I whispered. "You think this is a scene?"
"That woman is obsessed with me, okay?” His fingers dragged through his hair roughly. “I told you already. She’s trying to destroy our marriage.”
"Why?"
“I don’t know!”
“That’s a lie!”
The elevator fell silent.
David slowly turned toward me, anger flashing dangerously in his eyes. For the first time since I met him. I felt afraid of him. The elevator doors opened into private hallway leading to our suite. Neither of us spoke as we entered.
The room was breathtaking. Rose petals covered the massive bed. Soft music played quietly in the background. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooked the glittering Dubai skyline. A honeymoon paradise. But the tension between us poisoned everything.
David loosened his tie aggressively before pouring himself a drink from the expensive bottle on the counter. I stood near the door hugging myself tightly.
“Tell me the truth,” I whispered again.
He threw back the drink in one gulp. “I already did.”
“No.” Tears burned my eyes. “You’re hiding something from me.”
David slammed the glass onto the counter. “What exactly do you want me to say, Mira?”
“The truth!”
“I said that child is not mine!”
“But you looked terrified when you saw them!”
He froze. Just for a second. But I saw it. My chest ached violently.
“Oh my God,” I breathed. “There is something.”
David cursed under his breath and turned away from me. That silence destroyed me more than words ever could
I walked closer slowly, my heart pounding harder with every step.
“David…” my voice shook terribly. “Please don’t do this to me. Not after today. Not after our wedding.”
He rubbed his forehead frustratingly before finally speaking. “She’s my ex.”
The words hit me like a slap. I stumbled backward slightly. “What?”
“She’s my ex,” he repeated quietly. “But it ended years ago.”
My breathing became uneven. You said you barely knew her.”
“I didn’t want unnecessary drama.”
“So you lied?”
“I was trying to protect us!”
“Protect us?” I laughed bitterly through tears. “By hiding another woman and a child from me?”
“That boy is not mine!”
“How can I believe anything you say anymore?”
"Mira, listen to me carefully.” David suddenly grabbed my shoulders. His voice became low and intense. “I love you. Only you. Whatever happened before you came into my life means nothing.”
“But it happened,” I whispered brokenly.
His grip tightened. She trapped me once before. I won’t let her destroy my marriage too.”
My eyebrows pulled together in confusion. “What does that mean?”
Before he could answer. His phone rang. The loud sound echoed through the suite like a gunshot. David glanced at the screen. And all the color drained from his face again. I saw the contact name clearly before he tried hiding it.
My heart stopped. Slowly. looked up at him. That’s her, isn’t it?”
David declined the call immediately. But one second later. The phone rang again. And again. My breathing turned shaky.
"Answer it.”
“Mira,”
“ANSWER IT!” The scream tore out of my throat so loudly it shocked even me. David stared at me for a long moment before finally answering the call. He placed the phone slowly against his ear.
“What do you want?” he said coldly.
Even from across the room, I could hear the woman’s voice screaming through the speaker. “You think you can run from me forever, David?!”
My knees weakened instantly. David turned away quickly. “Stop calling me.”
“No. Not until you tell your wife the truth.”
The truth. The words echoed violently inside my head. I watched David’s shoulders tense. Then the woman spoke again. And this time. She shattered my entire world.
“Tell her why you abandoned your son.”
Everything inside me stopped. The room spun violently around me. I looked at David with horror spreading slowly across my face while silence swallowed the entire suite.
David closed his eyes. And in that exact moment. I knew my marriage had been built on lies.
The phone slipped from David’s hand and landed on the marble floor with a loud crack. Neither of us moved. I could hear my own heartbeat pounding violently inside my ears.
“Say something,” I whispered.
David stayed silent. Tears blurred my vision immediately.
“No.” I shook my head slowly. “No, no, no, tell me she’s lying.”
“Mira.”
"Tell me!” I screamed. My voice bounced across the luxurious suite. Outside the giant windows, Dubai glittered beautifully under the evening sun while my entire world collapsed beneath my feet. David finally looked at me, but the guilt in his eyes destroyed the tiny hope left inside me.
"I was going to tell you.”
The words hit harder than a knife. I staggered backward.
"You were going to tell me?” I laughed weakly, tears streaming uncontrollably down my face. “After the wedding? After bringing me all the way to another country?”
“It’s not what you think.”
“Then explain it to me!” I cried. “Explain why another woman is calling you the father of her child!”
David dragged both hands through his hair angrily. “Because the child might be mine.”
Might. My legs nearly gave out beneath me. I grabbed the edge of the table quickly to steady myself. Oh my God.
“It happened years ago,” David rushed out. “Before I met you. She and I dated briefly after university. Then she suddenly disappeared. But you knew she was pregnant?” She came back months later claiming the child was mine!”
“And?”
"And I wasn’t sure!” he shouted back frustratedly. “Mira, she was seeing other men too!” The disgust and desperation in his voice filled the room.
“But why hide it from me?” I whispered painfully.
“Because I didn’t want to lose you.”
That answer broke me completely. Not because he cheated. Not because of the child. But because he looked me in the eyes every single day and chose to lie.
I covered my mouth as sobs escaped uncontrollably from my chest.
David stepped toward me. "Baby."
“Don’t touch me!”
He froze instantly. The pain on his face should have satisfied me. Instead, it made me cry harder.
“You made me look stupid,” I whispered. “Everyone probably knew except me.”
“That’s not true.”
“My mother warned me!” I cried suddenly. “She warned me, and I ignored her because I loved you!”
David’s face tightened. “What did she say?”
“That you and Sarah were hiding something from me.”
At the mention of my cousin’s name, something strange flashed across his expression. Fear. Real fear. Fresh panic crawled into my chest.
“What does Sarah have to do with this?”
"Nothing.”
“You hesitated.”
“Mira, stop overthinking.”
"STOP LYING TO ME!”
My scream echoed loudly. David went silent again. That silence told me everything. I stared at him in complete disbelief.
“No way,” I whispered slowly.
His jaw tightened. David looked away.
And that was enough confirmation. The betrayal hit differently this time. Sharper. Crueler. I suddenly felt sick. I rushed toward the bathroom, falling to my knees beside the toilet before throwing up violently. Tears poured endlessly down my face as my body shook.
Behind me, I heard David enter slowly
“Mira.”
“Get out.”
His voice softened painfully. “Please let me explain everything.”
I laughed bitterly through my tears.
“Everything?” I whispered. “How many more secrets are left, David?”
