I felt something at the second hour of the night.
I felt a pulse starting somewhere central moving outward through my ribs and down into my limbs and up through my chest like a stone dropped in still water sending rings in every direction at once.
I pressed my hand on my stomach.
I sat up slowly in the dark and listened to the fortress around me. The third hour patrol sounds and Bram outside the door. The distant movement of the eastern perimeter rotation that has been running continuously since the tunnel breach and under all of it was a frequency,the same as the thing Zayden described coming through the foundation stone from the tunnel but this was coming from inside me.
I pressed harder on my stomach,the pulse came a third time.
