Chapter 1

The flames reached the sky as Tyler and his cousin threw more gasoline into the pit. No matter how much gasoline they threw in there, the thick layer of fire retardant on its textured surface wouldn't allow it to burn. "You guys are going to burn the backyard down before you burn that tree," I said with a laugh. Tyler just threw me the finger and returned to pouring gasoline into the pit. Standing up, I moved my chair further back from the pit with a sigh. Sometimes my friends were not the sharpest tools in the shed. Loyal to a fault but not always smart. With a deep sigh, I wondered where the hell my boyfriend was. Dominic had wandered off more than 20 minutes ago to find us another round of drinks. Looking toward the house, I notice the group hussy slinking out of the backdoor pulling her tank top straps into place. Molly had slept with nearly every male in our little band of misfits. We were an odd group without a doubt. A mixture of shape-shifters, humans and fae we all came from different walks of life. What brought us together and gave us such a strong camaraderie was our disdain for our parents' expectations of us. You would think in a world where the three races lived openly together there would be more tolerance for co-mingling. My parents in particular only knew a handful of my friends. If they saw the whole group together as it was tonight, they would lock me away and purposely lose the key. Being the only fae in the group wasn't exactly easy, no one understood the politics I had to attempt to navigate on a daily basis. Or the overwhelming expectations my family had of me. Tyler and his family were human and the most neutral, which I assume is why they allowed our rag tag group to fill their backyard on a regular basis. Dominic, Molly and most of the others were Shape-Shifters from different clans. They had their own politics to deal with. I had never been invited to any of their territories, nor had I invited anyone to our court. My parents' local home was as far as any of my friends had been into the world of the Fae. I intended to keep it that way, for their own safety. Dominic walked out the backdoor shortly after Molly had, drinks in hand. Those drinks were his saving grace. I suspected the two of them were sneaking around behind my back, but as of yet I couldn't prove it. If I could ever verify my suspicion though, I would savor every ounce of the beating I would bestow upon Molly's sassy ass. And I'd make sure it was in front of our entire group so the message was undeniably clear to all the others. Don't touch what's mine. "Here ya go babe," Dominic handed me a cup full of rum and juice. More rum than juice just how I liked it. "Gabriel will be here shortly. I can't wait for you to meet him. There's a wager going around about who wins the scuffle between you two." Dominic said with a killer grin before taking a gulp of his beer. "I really don't understand why everyone thinks there is going to be some sort of instant conflict between the two of us," I replied with a roll of my eyes. Ok sure I was known for my short fuse, sarcastic mouth and my I don't give a s**t i'll claw your eyes out s**t starting. But honestly, I always had some sort of provocation. Well ok, sometimes I jumped into other peoples conflicts just to blow off some steam and have some fun. Fae loved conflict, for a race of beautiful creatures we most certainly had a taste for violence. "Oh just you wait baby, just you wait." Dominic's handsome grin was made even more sexy when his dimples showed. Yummm, suddenly I couldn't wait to get my man home and naked. I looked up at him, grinning back at him, grabbing his shirt and pulling him down to my level for a long kiss that gave him every notion of exactly what was on my mind. As I kissed him, I heard his beer meet with the side table. Feeling his hands reach down to grab my hips, he lifted me effortless out of my chair and placed me straddling him while he turned to sit keeping me perfectly positioned in his lap. As I leaned into him, I could feel his building erection pushing against his pants reaching for my center. Still kissing him passionately, I moaned as I leaned into him. "Get a f*****g room you two!" cackling laughter accompanied the unwanted input. Molly, of course it would be her. Pulling back from Dominic enough to look over my shoulder I stared her down across the pool. She was sitting innocently in her current flavor of the weeks lap, we all knew it was just a matter of days before she broke Aarons heart. He didn't seem to reaping in the benefits of his time with her every moment he could. "At least I have enough decency not to suck his c**k out in the open. Unlike some people we all know," I said in a sweet sing-song voice with a wicked smile. Suddenly the feel of the air changed, the entire backyard seemed to go silent as everyone simultaneously gaped at the huge dark figure stalked through the gate. "What's up fuckers? Miss me?"
