Chapter 10

Groaning Ty'an slowly opened her eyes, her head was pounding, her neck burned and she was seeing stars. Literally. Night had fallen over the treetops and she could see the twinkle of the stars. What the hell happened...., she wondered. Slowly, painfully, she rolled to her side, gathering her legs in a slow thought train to at least sit up and take an inventory of her possible injuries. As she turned, her eyes fell on something on the ground, a body, wearing black combat boots, BDU pants and a gray shirt. The memory of what exactly had transpired and recognition hit her moments later. He had attacked her, demanding to know what she was, then he had pinned her and bit her when she refused to answer him... but that was all she remembered. How had they both ended up blacked out on the ground? "s**t, s**t, s**t. Gabriel!" she cried out, her body coming to life. She frantically scrabbled across the ground to him. "Please, please, by the fates don't be dead." She leaned down to put an ear against his chest, a heart beat faint but present greeted her. "Oh, thank the fates," she gasped. Faint but there, he was alive. She moved to sit straddling his hips, placing a palm on each side of his chest. She closed her eyes and let energy thrum through her into him. All Fae had at least the basic ability to heal. Not every Fae could bring someone back from the brink of death, but lucky for the big brute, she was capable of it. Seconds later, Gabriel's eyes fluttered open accompanied by a gasp for oxygen as his heart resumed it's normal pace. He blinked for several long moments at her, examining her. "What happened?" he finally asked. Leaning up onto his elbows, curling his chest, he got closer to her. "You," she emphasized," decided that attacking me and biting me was a bright idea. That's what happened." She huffed at him, "Then you nearly died and I healed you." She was still sitting straddled his hips, arms folded and looking down into his gray eyes with a disgruntled look. She figured if he was going to try to kill her again, at least she would have the starting advantage this way. Plus, she liked the sight of him pinned to the ground. That thought brought a slow half grin to her face as her mind started to wander dangerously, not fully hearing what he was mumbling. Silence filled the space as her thoughts came back to the present and she realized he was staring at her with a very odd, confused wolf look. "What? I wasn't listening, I spaced," she said, rubbing her face. Had he figured out what or who she was? She had definitely missed something, judging by the look on his face. He growled low, but not in a threatening way. It was a different sound, one she had heard Dominic make numerous times, it was possessive and wanting. "Slow down Romeo, you just tried to kill me, nearly killed yourself in the process. Now your giving me that sexy wolfie look. Not going to happen," she moved off of him, standing and striding into the cabin she had built earlier. Turning her back to him on purpose. She wasn't afraid of him and he wasn't getting anymore explanations from her. Honestly, she didn't have any. Stopping near the hearth, she fluxed her power to start a fire to warm the small space. Gabriel stumbled through the doorway as she lit it. She didn't look at him, didn't acknowledge him. He had to know what she was, his job was to try to take her life, she had to think quickly about how to explain or try to make him understand she wasn't dangerous. Ok, that was a lie. She was dangerous, but she wasn't purposely dangerous. "Your dark Fae," he finally said. Sighing, he rubbed his face again and just stared at her with that perplexed look. He had taken a seat at the small table she had created. "And if I am?" she said quietly, without moving. She was on high alert, her whole body rigid. She didn't know where this was going. "Well then we have a f*****g problem, because your also my mate," Gabriel replied. Standing, he walked to where she stood, stopping next to her, crossing his arms and staring into the flames. Shock sparked through her entire body. She looked up at him with a look of disbelief, "I'm your what?" "You, little Fae, are my mate. My wolf recognized you as soon as I bit you, that's what made us both black out. It wasn't a claiming bite and I was going for your throat. The fates don't allow us to hurt our mates... there are consequences, as you have now experienced." "But you're a wolf," She said in disbelief, "and I'm Fae. We don't have mates, we have Twin Flames. How can that be?" "I don't know, little Fae, but your my mate. The other half of me. I've been raised and trained to hate what you are," he sighed, turning to look at her, "but I can't hurt you. The fates have ensured your safe from me." With that, he turned and stormed out of the cabin. Leaving to simply stare at the fire. How long she stood there she didn’t know. His mate. If she was his mate, then he was her Twin Flame. That would explain all the draw she had felt toward him, the curiosity, the attraction, the resistance to hurting him. His mate. If she was his mate, then he was her Twin Flame. That would explain all the draw she had felt toward him, the curiosity, the attraction, the resistance to hurting him. She was so lost in thought she didn’t hear the sound of light footsteps entering the cabin. “You know, it was truly frustrating not being able to find you these last few years, princess.”
