Chapter 6: Secrets of the Wraith Guardians

372 Words
The ruins of the Moon Temple fell silent once more. But Lyra couldn't forget what she had seen. Fear. For the first time since meeting Orion, she had seen fear in his silver eyes. The same man who faced the shadows without hesitation. The same man who spoke as if nothing in the world could surprise him. Yet the mention of "The Master" had changed everything. "Who are they?" Lyra asked quietly. Orion looked toward the night sky. "The enemies of the Wraith Guardians." "Long ago, they sought to control time itself." "And they nearly destroyed the world." Lyra frowned. "Nearly?" Orion nodded. "The Wraith Guardians stopped them." "But the price was great." His voice became quieter. "Many Guardians never returned." Lyra noticed the sadness hidden behind his calm expression. For some reason, seeing him like this made her heart ache. "How many Guardians are there?" she asked. "Very few," Orion answered. "Time does not forgive mistakes." Before Lyra could ask another question, her stomach growled loudly. Silence. Orion slowly looked at her. Lyra immediately covered her face in embarrassment. "I skipped dinner." Several seconds passed. Then Orion reached into his cloak and pulled out a small bag. Lyra blinked. "Is that..." "Bread," he answered calmly. "You carry bread around?" "It is practical." Lyra stared at him. The mighty Guardian of Time. Leader of the Wraith Guardians. Carrier of emergency bread. For the first time since meeting him, she laughed. Orion looked slightly confused. "I fail to understand what is amusing." That only made Lyra laugh harder. For some reason, Orion felt strangely relieved hearing that sound. Suddenly, his expression changed. His silver eyes narrowed. "We have to leave." "What?" "The barrier around the ruins is weakening." Without warning, Orion grabbed Lyra's wrist. A circle of silver light appeared beneath their feet. The world around them vanished. When Lyra opened her eyes again, she gasped. Before them stood an enormous city hidden beneath the stars. Silver towers. Floating lights. Ancient symbols glowing across the streets. And people wearing cloaks similar to Orion's. Lyra stared in amazement. "Where are we?" For the first time since meeting her... Orion smiled very slightly. "Welcome." "To the Sanctuary of the Wraith Guardians." --- To Be Continued...
