Chapter 2

Life went back to normal for Sandy,days went by,weeks, a month and all seemed to be nothing but just a distant memory.Mary her best friend had convinced her that she had done everything she could to find her all in vain-she was glad her friend was back or so she would say.Well Sandy didn't care much about Mary all she thought about was Tate and if at all their encounter was real or perhaps just a dream.Sandy's apartment was too quiet,you know those huge fancy apartments in the city,she had bought it soon after she started working for Trans Law firm.They paid her well,the clients where cartels and government officials so the money was too good.She loved her job it was actually more like a hobby although lately everything didn't seem quite enough,she wanted more..,she wanted to see him again.She sat down Infront of her television flipped through the channels nothing seemed interesting,she took out a recipe book and thought of whipping up a good meal but she could find anything that tickled her taste buds.She went into the shower and just sat there under the water,and all the memories came flooding back.Is this what it feels like to be in love she thought to herself.She had never felt like this about anyone before,yes-she had dated a couple of blokes before but it never felt like this This was a whole new level and with a merman! Was this even possible?!.She turned off the water and as she tried to reach for her towel she slipped and fell and her head banged on the corner of the tub right Infront of her and everything went blank,she sort of fell into a deep state of unconsciousness at the same time she was in another place or so she thought,she saw Tate coming towards her,I mean swimming towards her he called out to her and she tried to reach for him but he seemed too far and she couldn't hear what he was saying he seemed to be asking her something.When Sandy came to she found herself in the hospital on a stretcher bed,a man in a white coat was standing beside her and shining a light into her eyes

Doc-”Ms Sandy,glad to have you back!,we thought we had lost you”he said smiling down at her

Doc-”How are you feeling?,you seem to have taken a hard fall in your bathroom I have done some tests but nothing seems amis”.

Sandy-”How dd I get here,who found me?“

Doc-”A handsome fella,is he not your boyfriend?,said his name was Tate he left in a rush”

Sandy-”Where did he go,can I go right away!,please?“

Doc-”I am afraid you can't go,I still have to be sure,you can go tomorrow after I run some more tests to see if you haven't suffered a concussion.“

Sandy-”it's okay Doctor i guess I don't have much of a choice then “

The Doctor went for the door but then he came back and shook her hand from and strong

Doc-”Congratulations,you are pregnant!.Sandy was taken aback,so Tate had betrayed her and taken advantage of her after all although she had no recollection of it all.She felt mixed emotions at this point -an abortion would be ideal considering the circumstances,how would she explain to her father in the least, he would want her to be wedded to the father of the child because he had a reputation to maintain since he was a government official.Somehow the thought of holding her own child in her arms felt wonderful but raising the child alone was scary.She was so confused right now.Back in her apartment she lay in bed and held the covers tightly she felt all alone and no one to share her troubles with,at one moment she thought of calling Mary but she hesitated.

She had fallen in love with Tate right from the moment her fingers touched his,she had felt the connection right away and it scared her and now she was carrying his baby.She ran her hand over her abdomen and already she was in love with the thing growing inside

Time went by,days turned to months,Sandy spent most of her time alone either at work or in her apartment.She rarely spoke to Mary or anyone else she kept the pregnancy to herself and luckily her tummy didn't show much at all underneath the baggy jeans she wore most of the time.She was torn between trying to search for Tate and birthing the child alone,she was sure herchild would be a merbaby and if she gave birth in a hospital her baby would be taken from her and used for experiments.The only solution she had was to have her baby at home,and not even at her place but she thought of her father's old cabin which was in the valley somewhere on the outskirts of the city.He used the cabin for private meetings or just as a getaway from all the hussles of his busy life.

She was busy one day shopping for baby clothes when she accidentally bumped into Mary the last person she wanted to see right now,she tried to look away but she had already spotted her and was already coming over.

Mary-”Sandy what's going on with you,like you seem to be ducking me ?“.

Sandy-”Nothing really I am still in shock,my best friend ditched me and left me to die!!“

Mary-”Are we still there,I thought we were past that,you are here and you are okay right?“

Sandy-”you didn't even bother to apologies I could have died Mary!,did you even care?“

Mary-”I am sorry Sandy,please find it somewhere in your heart to forgive me please,please..oh wait a minute -are you pregnant!?“

Sandy-”stay outta my business and keep away from me,you are not my friend!“

Mary-”So that's what you really want?“

Sandy-”Damn right,get lost!!“

Mary walked away and Sandy felt bad for shutting her out like that,she just didn't want Mary to know the complications in her life right now.Its already bad enough she noticed the pregnancy.She had to birth this child either in the the water with it's kin or alone in her cabin.When she was 8 months pregnant she decided to take a leave from work,her boss did not hesitate since she was one of the best Lawyers in his team he had to comply.

Sandy packed all that she needed and headed for the cabin up the hills it was a 5 hour drive so she had to make many stops along the way.She arrived in the evening and she was very tired she didn't even have the strength to cook luckily she had some left over take aways which she was reluctant to eat for supper.She went out on the patio and looked yonder,the cabin was right next to the river and you could clearly see the water glistening under the moonlight.She closed her eyes and wished to see Tate right now,she hoped he could hear or see her in this moment.All the anger she had felt for him had melted away everytime she felt the baby inside her kicking.It wasn't long now the baby would be here any day from now she said to herself.

Sandy-”It's not going to be easy but we will make it!.“she said to herself and her right there as if insync her unborn baby moved inside her as if in agreement.

Every morning she would wake up and walk along she would walk alongside the shore hoping,wishing to just maybe catch a glimpse of some kind of sign in the water that Tate was there but still nothing.On this particular morning though she felt a sharp pain in her lower back and when she looked down she saw water flowing from her down her legs and she knew it was time.She briskly walked back to ye cabin as the pain was getting more and more frequent.When she got there she went on to the bed and she put her phone close by just Incase the situation went sideways.Shebhad already done her research and she knew what to do and what to expect.She immediately felt the urge to push and she did,taking deep breaths it wasn't as easy as she had assume the pain was unbearable.This went on until the evening when the baby let out it's first cry,she reached forward between her legs and pulled the baby to her chest.To her surprise it was a beautiful little girl perfect in every way,she smiled and kissed her gently on the head

Sandy-”We did it,lira my baby girl welcome l!“

She immediately took her cellphone and called the ambulance and waited with her baby clutched tightly in her arms.

The ambulance arrived in a few hours,the paramedics came inside and began to check on them

Paramed-”Ma'am everything looks okay but we would like to take you and the baby to the hospital for further observations”

Paramed-”Ma'am why are you here alone especially when you knew that your time to have the baby was close,anything could have happened and noone to help you.Its a huge risk you took out here you know!!“

Sandy-”I know,I wasn't thinking straight I guess “

Paramed-”You are lucky to be okay,you and your baby, congratulations!“

The paramedics took them straight to he hospital.They spent 2 days in the hospital and on the 3rd day the doctor gave her and her baby a clean bill of health and discharged them.

Mary-”Congratulations my dear,your baby is so adorable I have already fallen in love with her!“.she maneged to say after she had put the baby in the crib.One could tell she had so many questions to ask but she decided to hold them off for now.

Sandy-”Go ahead!,I know you are curious”

Mary-”Of course I am,you shut me out of your life completely and now you call me and you have a baby what is going on?,who is the father”

Sandy-”It's a long story but all I can say is her father is not with us because it was just a fling ,a 1 night stand and I don't think he wants to know the outcome of our foolishness!“

Mary decide to just take it as it was and move on,she just knew that her friend was holding back a lot but for the sake of peace she decided to let it go this time.

Sandy didn't want to admit it but the next couple of weeks where full of worry as she watched her daughter closely,she knew that something was bound to give because this baby was supposed to be part mermaid but so far she looked completely human.Then one day as she was about to to change Lira's diaper she noticed that her skin was very dry and flaky and this worried her so she applied a lot of moisturizer on her skin but a few hours later it seemed to be getting worse almost like her skin was tearing apart,she applied some more moisturizer but still there wasn't any change the baby cried all the more.At this point she only thought of one solution,she took the baby into the bathroom and filled it with warm water.She then placed the baby inside and immediately the baby's skin beacme shiny and scaly and also she had developed a mermaid tail.Sandy was in shock,how was she going to survive Mary and the world?!.Raising a baby like this in this world would be torture-not because she didn't care but because she loved Lira with every fiber in her body and the solution that came to her mind at this moment was to take her baby underwater to her father where she would be safe and be with people like herself.She quickly took Lira out of the tub and wrapped her in a shower and took her car keys,she drove off to the far end or the city right across the bridge headed for the sea shore.Lira was strapped in the baby car seat in the back crying her lungs out,the poor child was feeling pain from the broken skin.She was begining to have a problem with her breathing because she was also beginning to cough.Sandy stepped on the accelerator and hoped she would get to the sea shire in time,just when she parked the car near the beach she saw a figure of a man coming out of the water and somehow she knew it was Tate.

Sandy-”You just don't know how happy I am to see you right now!“ She screamed as she ran towards him.Tate was still in a state of confusion even he was shocked what had pulled him out of the water.

Sandu-”Please help me Tate,!“

She headed back to the car and brought out a baby and handed her over to Tate.Tate looked at the child-she was beautiful and he felt a strong connection with her but he knew it wasn't his although it was clear she was a merbaby.

Tate-”How is it possible that you are a mother to a water baby?“

Sandy-”I should be asking you that question!,Mr I will not take advantage of You!,it's pointless just help my baby okay…please”she began to cry,Tate was broken he didn't like to see her in this state.He grabbed her hand with the other hand he held the baby to his chest and into the ocean they swam , deeper and deeper.
