Sarah actually trembled on Nick’s lap but she had to do this. He deserved to know the truth and he deserved her trust.
“Sarah...you don’t have to...”
She touched his lips, silencing him. “I know. I want to.” She smiled, wiping the tears from her checks. “That’s a lie. Kind of. I don’t but I do. Understand?”
He nodded.
“I...I am scared that I’ll miscarry. That I don’t deserve another child.”
“You do deserve one. What happened was not your fault.”
“Please.” She touched his cheek. “I need to say this.”
“Okay.” He took her hand, intertwining their fingers.
“I’m also scared that...that this...” She kissed his hand. “Us. It’s too good. It won’t last. Something horrible is going to happen.”
