Nick woke, trying to figure out where he was. The room was dark and he was surrounded–-dogs at his feet and kids on both sides. s**t. He must’ve fallen asleep when he’d been reading that damn book Isabella had given to him.
He gently eased out from under Isabella’s arm, freezing as she mumbled something before rolling over. His heart pounded and his muscles tensed as if a tiger were stalking him instead of a couple of kids. When she snored softly, he climbed over Peter, careful not to bump him and that wasn’t easy in a dark room. His feet dropped to the floor. Wait a minute. He’d been reading. The light had been on. That meant Sarah must’ve come by looking for him. She should’ve woken him. He smirked as he headed for the door. He’ll make her pay for that...lat
