THE COUNCIL. Wendy's POV. I woke up to a beeping sound and turned to find myself in a hospital ward, with drips connected to my arm. When did I get here? How? I tried sitting up when my head started to pound like a hammer was being hit on it. I let out a groan and turned to face the window only to be blinded by the bright sunlight. Wasn't I at Gitten's coronation? How did I get into a hospital ward? With a Drip in the hand and a headache? Countless thoughts drifted through my mind when memories last night hit me and I let out a gasp. Gittens called Nadia his mate instead of me, and I was also attacked by a stranger. Despite my body hurting as hell, I still tried to sit up and make a move to ring the bell by the side of my bed when; "So you are awake. Finally, I was tired of waiting." I heard a familiar voice and froze, goosebumps covering my entire body. Was that....? I turned to see Gitten sitting on the sofa a few feet away from me, his face void of any expression. He just stared at me blankly, like I was nothing and that made my heart tighten in pain, my fingers trembling. I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself down. I was probably overthinking. I mean, he wouldn't be here if I were nothing, right? And he introducing Nadia as his mate last night was surely a mistake. "Is it true you are pregnant?" He asked out of the blue and I rubbed my stomach, remembering the baby growing in me. Our baby. I let out a smile knowing Gitten must be so excited that he was trying to control it by acting nonchalant. "Yes. A blessing from the moon goddess." I replied and he chuckled darkly, sending shivers down my spine. "More like a curse, like you are." He countered and I went pale. What did he just say? Was I hearing things? "Gittens?" I called in disbelief and he frowned, looking at me with disdain. "What? I just said the truth." He told me and everywhere suddenly turned suffocating. "Anyways, It's over between us so terminate that thing in you." He pointed at my stomach and I began finding it difficult to breathe. It was like I had been punched in the guts because nothing he was saying, made any sense to me. Gittens would never say these to me. "I don't understand. I t-th." I paused, shutting my eyes to calm myself. "I thought you said we would get married, that I would be announced as your mate but you mentioned Nadia instead." I opened my eyes. "So?" He shrugged. "Wasn't it a mistake?" I questioned, holding my breath, my nails digging into my palm. "Nope. Nadia is my mate. You were just a means of fun to me." He responded and I reared backwards in shock. Words couldn't describe the pain I felt in my chest. Gittens got up and walked closer to me. "Abort that thing. I want nothing to do with either it or you." He fumed, grabbing the edges of the bed tightly. He looked scary. I flinched, my heart pounding in fear so I tried to cower away from him. Did he just call our baby a thing? What was this? "No." I found myself whispering, and the next thing I knew, he punched me on my stomach so hard that air whooped out of me. I coughed up blood, collapsing on the bed. Just then, a knock sounded on the door. I and him turned simultaneously to see his brother, Grim, walking in, his hands tucked into his pocket, his long, white hair packed into a bun, some strands pulled out to cover a side of his eyes. "Why are you here?" Gittens demanded, gritting his teeth against one another. "Dad wants you," Grim replied, not meeting his eyes. Instead, he was looking at me and for some unknown reason, my heart skipped a beat. Did he hear the ruckus? I tried not to wince in pain, biting my lower lip hard. "Okay."Gittens nodded, before walking to the door to leave, his hand was on the handle when he suddenly paused and turned to me. "I will not say it again. Get rid of it." He ordered and then left without looking back. My heart shattered, and I couldn't find anything to say; all I could do was just look, not knowing whether to cry out in pain or to smash things. "Guess I did a good thing knocking you out last night," Grim said and my jaw dropped as I turned to widen my eyeballs at him. 'Wait! Why?' I pondered and stiffened as his eyes flickered to my belly, unreadable. "You would have created a scene and Gittens might have killed you." He explained and I looked away, knowing that he knew what his brother did just now. I couldn't even deny it. I mean did Gittens just punch me? "You can try getting the council to intervene and don't worry about the penalty. He deserves whatever comes to him for hitting the mother of his unborn child." Grim added and then left as well, leaving me on the bed to ponder his words. ............. ............. "I can't believe I am doing this," I muttered to myself as I walked into the building slowly, trying not to tremble. It was a huge place, with she-wolves running up and down to do their duties. Everyone seemed so busy. I made my way to a lady who seemed free, and when she saw me, she sniffed the air as if trying to gauge my rank to know how to respond to me. She wrinkled her nose in disgust almost immediately, frowning down at me. "What do you want?" She asked rudely as I played with my fingers nervously. "To see the council," I replied and she scoffed. "What will a peasant like you want to see them for?" She scowled, and I knew immediately she wasn't going to let me in, even if I told her what I was here for. I let out a sigh, dropping my shoulders about to turn around when I heard an unfamiliar voice. "Let her in, Harley. That's the cursed princess." A man said, and Harley looked like some freak. I was led into a beautiful room with statues of ancient beings all over. In the middle of the room was a large table with five men sitting behind it. Three on both the left and the right. They all seemed engaged in some paperwork but paused when they heard the sounds of my footsteps and lifted their heads to look at me. "What brings you to the great council, child?" They inquired with a smile that I wasn't sure if it was fake or genuine but it didn't ease me a bit. I could hear the pounding of my heartbeat in my ears as I was gestured to a seat, my hands resting on my lap. Could I do this to Gittens? But he left me no choice. I was baffled. I wanted to speak, but the words refused to come out. Now it all made sense why Dr. Ariel was reacting in such a way. I just kept on gulping down my saliva, looking everywhere else but their faces. "Judging by the red mark on your shoulder, I am guessing you are the cursed princess?" One of the elders present spoke and I nodded briskly. My stomach dropped, as I suddenly felt like I couldn't breathe. "You look scared. Is the curse supposed to be afraid of anyone?" Another of the elders spoke up and I struggled to meet his eyes. "Speak up, child, and no harm shall come to you." They all said at once and that made me feel reassured. "Alright. I am pregnant." I blurted out and they all exchanged looks of confusion. "Okay, but we are not midwives, princess. Why bring such news to the council?" One of the elders who has been keeping quiet since spoke. "It's for Lycan prince Gittens," I added and all colors drained out of their faces. Every smile wiped off, replaced with a frown towards me. I said it, it was fake.
