BETRAYAL. Wendy's POV. Gitten promised me the world, he stood by my side when no one did. It was how we met, at school when I was being bullied by Josie, he stepped in to protect me. We became friends from then and in no time, began dating. I thought he was the best thing that had ever happened to me. Seemed like he was the worst now. I mean what would Dad say if he finds out about this? Probably disown and blame me. "This is no place for a joke." The council elders warned and I shrugged. "You think I would put my honor at risk?" I asked and they all went silent, exchanging looks. " A healer can test me and the paternity too, if it would be safe for it now," I told them, placing my hand on my still flat belly, rubbing it. One of the Elders facepalmed himself as they all began to whisper in some foreign language, which I had never heard before. A few minutes passed and the next thing I knew was the door behind me barging open. "Who dares to lay such an accusation against me?" I heard his familiar voice and cold sweat tickled down my spine. What was he doing here? When did they reach out to him? He finally came to our presence, not noticing me yet as fury emitted from him. "She is right behind you, Prince." One of the Elders gestured towards me and Gitten turned. He went pale immediately, his jaw dropping as he blinked repeatedly at me, probably not expecting that I would come here, even though I couldn't believe I had the guts. Seeing the look of panic on his face, the elders sighed and I breathed a sigh of relief. It had been proved I wasn't lying. "Will you quit trying to ruin me?" He suddenly roared, startling me in my seat. "R-ruin y-you?" I stuttered, having this ominous feeling. "So it is true? My prince?" The Elders asked and Gitten scoffed. "You truly believe I would impregnate someone cursed? She is just someone that I saved once, and since then, she has been obsessed with me."Gittens half-lied and I shook my head in disbelief. Do I even know this guy anymore? Was he truly the one who swore his love to me under the full moom, who took my virginity? Tears were threatening to fall so I just got up from my seat, ready to leave before I made a display here. "I have never felt so disappointed in my life," I told him but he just glared at me. "Since we don't know who is telling the truth, both of you are to come here tomorrow for a test." The Elders decided, and I nodded in satisfaction, feeling a sense of justice and hope as I proceeded to leave. "I can't believe you guys are even considering her lies. She knows she is doomed, whether a princess or not, and is trying to pin this on me." Gittens began to speak. I zoned him out. I didn't want to hear anything that would crush my heart further. I went back to my little cottage, my personal space that I visited from time to time, to avoid the palace and the mockeries. I began making preparations for my dinner and was halfway done when I heard a knock. "Coming," I yelled as the sound came again. I hurriedly turned off the gas cooker, wondering who could be at the door. I dried my hands on my apron before opening the door, only to see... "Can we come in?" Nadia asked me with a smile as I stood in the pathway, my lips parting in surprise at seeing them here. Gitten was right behind her, looking at something on the ground. "Sure," I answered, paving the way for them to enter, even though my mind screamed no. "Are you cooking?" Nadia questioned as she sniffled the air and I nodded, walking towards the kitchen to finish up. "I am almost done," I replied and Eric cleared his throat as if to get my attention since I didn't even act like he was here. "You will always love cooking." He said, and Nadia nodded to his words, and I chuckled, putting on the gas again. I guess everything was going to be alright, we were just having a misunderstanding after all. A few minutes later, I served us and began to dig in after our said prayers. The meal was quiet with Nadia and Gitten continuously exchanging looks. "Okay, what is it?" I demanded to know after they both looked at me at the same time for the hundredth time. Nadia dropped her spoon while Eric put the meat into his mouth before grabbing a glass of water and drowning it in a gulp. "We are here to talk about your pregnancy," Nadia answered and I felt a huge lump in my throat as I unconsciously placed my hand on my stomach to rub it. "Feeling attached already?" Gitten huffed and I frowned at him, knowing he was trying to mock me. "You have to skip the Elder's test tomorrow," Nadia spoke out and I widened my eyes at her. "What are you saying? That would seem like I am lying when I am not." I reminded her in case she had forgotten but then paused and smiled sadly. "But that's what you all want, don't you? For them to feel like I am lying." I added, absent-mindedly. "Obviously," Gitten said, his words cutting like glass as Nadia jabbed him with her hand. 'He was doing it again, hurting me. Was I so wrong to give him my heart?' I pondered, making my decision. "I will not skip the test." I refused and Nadia glared at me. "You will be ruining Gitten's reputation then." She pointed out and I got up from the chair angrily. "What about my reputation? Also, he should have thought of that before screwing me." I found myself yelling, before pointing towards my door. "Get out now. Both of you." I ordered, and Gitten reared backward in shock to see me yelling at him. "You don't mean that, you are just angry so now sit your ass down." He tried to order me but I grabbed the jar of cold water on the table and sprayed it all over him. Gitten shut his eyes, his hands clenched into fists as he opened them back and scowled at me. "You bitch." He seethed, and my heart pinged, but I didn't show it; rather, I laughed. How could I have been so blind to fall for him? Both he and Nadia got up at the same time and exchanged some kind of signal. "I am sorry, but you have left us no choice," Nadia said and I arched my eyebrows at her in confusion before taking a step backwards as shivers ran down my spine. She had flashed her claws while Gittens moved swiftly to my door to lock it, same with my windows. "W-what are you doing?" I stammered, getting this ominous feeling again as my stomach dropped from fear. The side of Nadia's lips curled up evilly, and before I could move further away, I felt Gitten grab me from behind and shove a knife through my stomach.
