9 “I can’t believe I let you talk me into coming to this.” Guy looked around the ballroom. He’d spent much of his youth at this stuffy country club. Tonight, it was done up in shades of black and white. On the wall hung pictures; spacious lots of real estate in the parish that were up for grabs. In between those hung portraits of the smiling faces of the citizens of Saint Anne’s Parish, with their sleeves rolled up, ready for a day of hard work. Manny had outdone himself.
