CHAPTER 01

ELEANOR Waking up every morning has never been easy for me and even now it feels as if there's no point getting up at all. It was never like this. I used to love life. I enjoyed hanging out with friends and even going to school. But all that changed the day I met my mate on my eighteenth birthday which was supposed to be the best part of being a werewolf, which is what I am. We are born in human form and can transform into a wolf at the age of twelve. From that point on, it’s a waiting game until we find our mate. I should be happy to have found mine but unfortunately, my case was somewhat different and I don’t mean that in a good way. Eight months Ago . . . I met him when I had just clocked Eighteen. He was everything I ever hoped for. Nineteen years old, 6”2’, gorgeous deep blue eyes, dark wavy hair, nicely tanned skin, perfect abs, and strong long legs. Perfect, right? I thought so too. We found each other outside the airport terminal area. Our eyes met and it was electrifying. We moved towards one another as if we were pulled by some force until we were only an inch away. “Mate,” we both whispered. He reached out with his hand to touch my cheek and I rested my face into his palm. It felt perfect; so comfortable. I was so excited that I closed my eyes to enjoy the moment when suddenly he tensed up and dropped his hand. I opened my eyes to ask what happened as I watched him take a big step back. I stared at him in a confused manner and was about to ask what made him move away so fast but then I heard the sound of a familiar voice that made the words suddenly freeze on my lips. “Hey, shuga, I see you’ve met my younger sister. Isn’t she so adorable?” My sister, Alison, blushed as she gave me her usual very-tight, breathless type of hug. “Is he the_?” I asked, with concern written all over my face. Alison had always gone on and on about her so-called boyfriend whenever we had the chance to talk but I thought it was just a bluff because I had never met him or seen her even close to a guy. “Yes, silly! This is the guy I always told you about on the phone. Noah, you didn’t introduce yourself?” She laughed while playfully patting his chest. “Well, El, this is my boyfriend, Noah Adams, the one and only good exciting thing to come out of this damned summer wolf camp, mum forced me to attend.” she announced excitedly while linking her arms in his. My wolf, Zalia, almost growled at the sight of her touching my mate, but I couldn’t say anything. I loved my sister so much and she was like the best friend I never had. I had never seen her look so happy not until this moment. I wouldn't do anything to ruin that. Not that I would never, I had a lot of serious questions to ask but I would definitely get my answers when the time was right. Even if I had to tie Noah somewhere to do it. I could feel my wolf being satisfied just by the thought of it. I just couldn't understand why of all the people my sister had to have met there, it was the one wolf chosen by the moon goddess as my mate. The summer camp they attended was the first ever held in the wolf community. It was created for just two different kinds of wolves. The first kind was for someone like Noah, who was a future alpha and leader of their pack. They needed to be taught how to control their power and authority so that it wouldn’t be misused or overused. The second kind was for wolves born from two different breeds who both carry the recessive gene and cause their child to be born completely human, and my sister was one of those kinds. My mother was human while my father is a werewolf, but I guess my sister took the gene of our mother with no traits of mix at all from our father. The whole situation was already complicated enough as it is, and finding out I was the mate of a future alpha, my sister was already dating, was only going to add to the tension. Noah and I quickly exchanged our greetings as if the previous tingling sensation encounter between us never happened. We grabbed their bags and headed towards the car. The ride was really uncomfortable for me because they both decided to share the back seat and cuddle while I sat at the front with the driver, occasionally stealing glances from Noah at the side mirror and even though he would smile at my sister, the looks he gave me looked sad and defiant. Although his mood confused me, I hoped to get a chance to talk about the matebond soon enough. We eventually made it to the pack mansion where they were having a big welcome party for my sister, Noah and other wolves of our pack who attended the summer camp. After much introduction, I got to find out that Noah is the only nephew of our alpha, and because our alpha’s mate was human and very weak due to her ill-health, she was unable to conceive a child. And our Wolf law states that the next male in line would be the alpha’s younger brother who is Noah's dad. However, he was killed by rogues when Noah was nine, so by law, Noah is the next heir. It is quite strange that we never had the opportunity to meet before but that was probably due to the fact that Noah's mother took him back to her pack shortly after his father’s death. After about two hours into the party, my Mom excused my Sister away from Noah to help her assist with something, and it finally gave me a chance to talk to Aiden alone. “Come with me, now,” I whispered into his ears before dragging him quickly into a section of the garden path clearing, a little far down away from noises and loud chatters. “So, Noah, what are we going to do? We can’t deny that bond we felt earlier. I love my sister so much but we’re mates. I don’t want to hurt her and that's why I want us to come up with a solution because the pull I feel for you is so strong, I can’t just simply ignore it,” I started ranting. “But I can,” he said. I continued, not quite hearing what he had responded. “I know, this is going to be a lot for you to take in for you and might create a lot of havoc but I’m just so happy I’ve found my—” He cut me off immediately and repeated the words he had said earlier, loud enough so I could hear them again. “I can do it.” “You can do what? what are you talking about?” I asked, looking at him in a confused manner
