Kiara
Sometimes, I felt like Rapunzel standing in the balcony of my bedroom and looking down at the lush gardens and the huge stone fountain in the center. When I initially began living here, I"d always loved looking out the window, now it only reminded me of being a prisoner of a mad man.
It"s been a few days since I received the envelope that revealed the gold benefits and just as mentioned in the rules, Jasper told me I had every right to tour the house as I pleased or use the amenities available. He knew too well that I would think a zillion times before I even thought of breaking the rules.
I hated this life. To dress up like a doll, having no friends to talk to and nothing to do.
A knock at the door pulled me out of my thoughts. Jasper entered the room, dressed in a polo t-shirt tucked neatly into black jeans, probably back from his golf game. His hair a ruffled mess. His blue eyes analyzed me from top to bottom in a quick once over. Sometimes I wondered if he was attracted to me, or if I was really undesirable, not that it mattered if Jasper liked me that way, I just wanted him to stop this stupid game, find a new toy and let me go.
"Good Morning, Kiara. You look lovely today." He complimented me.
"Thank you, Jasper." I said. "Is there anything I can do for you?"
Like maybe strangle you with a rope? Or poison your morning tea?
"My friend has invited me for a dinner party at his house at eight pm, tonight. A lot of people would be there and I"d like you to be my companion for the evening."
I beamed at the thought of leaving this house. "That sounds great. I"ll be ready."
Jasper nodded. "Wear something nice, I want you to look the best. Is that understood?"
"Of course, Jasper"
"I expect you to be ready by seven thirty."
****
At exactly seven thirty, I was dressed in a beautiful long evening gown, beige in color which was strapless and studded with tiny golden flowers. It was matched with glimmering golden high heels and a pouch.
When I descended the stairs, Jasper was waiting for me at the foot of the stairs dressed in a navy tux, his brown hair pulled back. He looked at me from top to bottom, his eyes shone something that I wasn"t yet familiar with.
Was it lust?
"Well?" I asked.
Then Jasper said something I least expected him to. His expressions turned that of a disgusted man. "Why are you wearing that?"
I was confused. "What do you mean?"
His jaw twitched. He turned his hard stare towards me and touched my bare neck and collar bone. "It"s too revealing for my taste. You are showing too much skin. What are you trying to prove? A lot of other men are going to be in that party, and they are going to look at you like they want to f**k you. Do you enjoy being objectified, Kiara? Or is it your hobby to seduce men?"
"You"re being ridiculous. All the clothes in the wardrobe are bought by you, and I remember you said I should dress nicely..."
Jasper raised a hand to silence me. That chauvinist pig. "You either dress decently, something that covers your skin, or you sit home. Which one would it be?"
I was boiling with anger. I bit my lip and counted till ten. "I"ll go change."
"I"ll give you fifteen minutes. A minute late, and I"m leaving."
I scurried upstairs towards my room and threw open the wardrobe, and picked out a less revealing dress. I"d loved the golden embroidered dress that I was wearing and knew that Jasper would like it too, yet, he proved me wrong every time by reminding me of just how stupid he actually was. This guy surpassed the level of possessiveness.
Finally, I was dressed in a long satin pink gown which was plain, but elegant with lovely butterfly brooch jewel.
This time, Jasper was pleased and and complimented on how beautiful I looked. We settled in an Audi sedan. The chauffeur in the drivers seat, while Jasper slipped in the backseat beside me.
He inched closer to me. The strong smell of his aftershave was over-powering. I felt his hand slide into mine, as he traced my fingers. Nothing about his touch was revolting or disgusting, but I couldn"t help feeling uncomfortable. I was shaking without me realizing it.
Jasper caught on that fact as he asked, "what"s wrong, love?"
"Nothing."
He cupped my face and tilted it enough to face him. "Are you afraid of me?"
I shook my head. "No."
He raised his eyebrows. He knew I was lying and I didn"t want to think what he would do it me if he realized that I was lying which he always did.
"Yes."
A knowing smile crossed his lips. "Good. You should be."
A huge mansion loomed as the car neared the huge iron gates. It was a beautiful black bricked mansion surrounded by trees. The house looked massive but I knew Jasper"s house was even bigger. This was the first time I was at someone"s house and yet I had no knowledge as to who it was.
"Whose party is this?" I asked Jasper.
"My friend. A very old friend."
"Well I"m sure that old friend has a name." I blurted out and quickly avoided eye contact as I looked down.
I"d made a mistake by back answering with a smartass comment.
"His name is Lucas Johnson."
Before I could respond to that he called out to the chauffeur. "Morgan, may I please have the necklace?"
Morgan handed Jasper a small choker necklace, embedded with blue and red gems that glimmered in the silver moonlight.
I thought it was a gift. It looked beautiful.
Jasper slipped it around my neck and locked it into place. "You know what they say about dogs, don"t you?" he asked me in his sweetest of tones. "Loyal animals. Even if you"ve fed a dog just once, a dog remembers it for his entire lifetime."
"I don"t understand." I said touching the necklace that fit my neck perfectly.
"Now listen carefully, sweetness. We are going to enter this party and you are my companion for the evening. If anyone asked you about our relationship status, you are supposed to tell them that you are my girlfriend. Is that understood?"
I nodded. "Yes."
"If by any chance, I see you telling them things that you are not supposed to, there will be consequences. You"ve got a taste of that for three weeks, am I right?"
"Yes."
"Well, let"s just say it will be worse than anything you have experienced before." Jasper said as he showed me his right index finger that had a ring on it. A very ordinary looking platinum ring, a very peculiar looking letter "L" on it. The ring seemed ancient and I wondered if it was passed on from generations. I"d seen him wear it quite rarely.
"You probably won"t see me, but I will have my eyes on you. Let me give you a small demo if I see you misbehaving." He touched a delicate almost invisible ring wound around the letter "L". He ran his thumb over it and a jolt of electricity shook my body. It was because of the choker necklace. How stupid of me to believe it was a simple gift?
I remained stiff, and there was another shock that buzzed through my body. I whimpered this time. "Please stop."
My hands were shaking, I was on a verge of tears. "Why?" I whispered.
"Freedom has a price, my dear Kiara. If you are going to be out of my house, I want you to be under my control. You have still not earned my full trust. Remember to be on your best behavior." He said and kissed my forehead. "Shall we go inside?"
