Kiara
I remembered making myself a fourth cup of coffee at three am and settling in the chair beside the bed where Jasper was sleeping soundlessly, but I knew that plan had somehow blown in my face when the stream of sunlight from the windows assaulted my face.
That meant only one thing, that I had slept instead of keeping an eye on him.
Shit.
I sprang to a sitting position and glanced around. The same beige curtains, the old furniture and the worn out couch on the other end of the room. I blew out a breath of relief when I realized that I was still in my apartment.
I almost jumped out of my skin when I noticed him propped up on a stool near the kitchen watching me with his intense stare. I swallowed. He still had an impact on me, my heart would just keep racing when he kept looking at me like that and I was still confused if I should be turned on by it or just scared. I was going with the latter.
I pulled the covers to my front to cover myself as if I was naked even though I was fully clothed. "How long have you been sitting there watching me?"
He seemed amused. "I woke up an hour ago."
I threw back the covers and started making my way to the bathroom. "We need to talk. Can you wait for some more time?"
He nodded. I completed my morning rituals and walked out of the steaming bathroom wearing a plain t-shirt and denim shorts. The kitchen smelled of breakfast. Jasper was at the kitchen counter loading what seemed like pancakes.
Jasper knew how to cook?
"What are you doing?" I asked him and quickly regretted.
He turned to face me and stared at me for a good few seconds. His eyes moved from my legs and slowly towards my face. I knew I was fidgeting.
Of course he would ogle, Kiara. What else did you expect?
Jasper wasn't used to seeing me in casual clothing, when I lived with him, I was always dressed in presentable formal gowns with my hair done. I always looked like a rich lady in expensive clothing, now I bet I looked like a homeless girl.
He smiled. "You look nice."
"Thanks. But, you didn't answer my question. What are you doing?"
"I'd already prepared the pancake batter, I was just waiting for you to wake up so I could make fresh pancakes." He explained, piling four pancakes on top of each other. "Do you have maple syrup and some strawberries?"
I nodded, and pulled out the contents from the refrigerator. I took my seat by the two sitter dining table and watched as he plated and served me three pancakes, garnished with fresh strawberries, butter and oozing maple syrup.
He settled down on the chair opposite mine and brought his plate.
I stared at the pancakes. The fork in my hand hovering over the food.
Jasper was already digging into his breakfast, but he caught me staring. "What's wrong?"
I didn't know how to rephrase 'I don't trust you.'
I tore a piece of the pancake and brought it to his lips. He chuckled, "You don't trust me, do you?" He ate it and then ate some more.
"You can't blame me." I said.
"How long are you going to rub it in my face? I said it was a f*****g mistake!"
"So what changed?" I asked.
Calmly he said, "After you left me, I realized how wrong I had been. I hurt you, I blackmailed you and those are the kind of things that don't deserve forgiveness. I was upset for days. I did a grave mistake and I knew that, but I also realized that I loved you, baby. I wanted to make things right, I want to do what I normally would have never done for anyone. Is that not good enough? Every person deserves one more chance."
I was going to cry, not because his words moved me but because my mind and my heart wanted different things. My mind told me to tell him to get lost, but my heart wanted to give him another chance and my heart always ruled over my mind.
"You chained me up for three weeks. Three goddamn weeks, Jasper. All because I had broken one of your stupid sick rules."
Jasper picked up the remaining pancakes from my plate and dumped it into the waste-bin. "Here. Now, you can stop worrying about being drugged. And guess what, I'll just stop bothering you because no matter what I do you are not going to trust me."
"It's just that, when I last saw you Jasper, you were a different man. You were cold, unapologetic and as harsh as it sounds, psychotic so I really have a hard time coming to terms that you are apologizing."
"It's okay, Kiara. You don't have to believe me. I tried." He said. "It's all I can do." That said, Jasper walked out of the apartment and closed the door behind him with a bang.

That night I heard the doorbell again and I was positive that I was going to be graced by the presence of Jasper Lockhart once again, but when I opened the door I saw Chloe holding two bags with a grin plastered on her face. "You are coming with me tonight." She was followed by a lean nerdy looking guy and a girl with a pixie haircut.
It was Chloe's way of making up for the no show the previous night.
Twenty minutes later, I was dolled up in a short back dress, my hair curled up and Chloe had done some wonders with my makeup, she knew how to do that smokey look with the eyes.
I'd said no a lot of weekend nights and even shut the door on her face once or twice, but this time she had come prepared and brought an army along. I realized Chloe wasn't taking no for an answer and I thought I deserved to have a little fun after the kind of s**t I had gone through.
I needed to keep my mind off Jasper for some time.
The lanky guy named Larry drove us to the club Opium in his old Toyota Corolla. When we reached the club, Larry and his girlfriend Tara hit the dance floor taking Chloe along with them and leaving me alone at the bar because I'd told a strict no for dancing. Didn't want to make a fool of myself.
I ordered for a margarita and cheesy fries. It was past midnight and I was bored out of my mind even with Chloe trying to make conversation with the loud music blaring in my ears. It was a weekend night so the club was packed, the dance floor hardly had any place for moving around let alone for dancing.
I was sipping my margarita when I noticed a tall blonde guy leaning against the wall and looking straight at me. I thought it was a mere coincidence that we happened to exchange glances at the same time, but a while later I looked again and I noticed his eyes were still on me, this time an uncanny smile on his lips.
A shiver ran down my body as I looked away. After the third drink, my head felt woozy and I instantly regretted having so much to drink.
"I have to use the restroom." I told Chloe.
"Should I come along?"
"No, it's okay." I said and made my way towards the restrooms.
The restrooms weren't as bad as I thought, if you ignored the smell of piss and vomit.
I walked out of the stall, washed my hands and applied some lip-gloss. When I walked out of the passageway, everything happened suddenly. I was caught off guard as a strong hand covered my mouth and the man started dragging me somewhere.
I tried to wiggle free, but he had a strong grip over me. I didn't even have time to think and I couldn't see his face and I wondered if it was Jasper. In fact, I was positive it was one of his men taking me back to the mansion.
My vision blurred with tears.
This wasn't what was supposed to happen.
Jasper said he loved me so why was he doing this?
