I look back, holding my breath to steady my shaking self, quick enough to see the door sliding shut as he slowly lowers down below the level he’s standing on. It clicks instantly that the floor is moving, and he’s going down. Like some sort of elevator for sure, and it explains why, on the surface, there’s no sign of life and the building is small. It’s deceptive, and the sliding door conceals a car-sized platform to a lower level. That means whatever is down there is big enough to accommodate vehicles should they need to be taken down, and that makes my blood run cold.
