The last thing I remember was being told that everyone in this house was some kind of supernatural something or other like werewolves. I had grown up with most of these people since junior high and it never crossed my mind that they weren’t normal humans. I start to come too but don’t move because I hear someone by the sound of it Devon start to say something.
“Are you going to sit there until he wakes up?”
“Yes I think it will be easier to explain things if it’s just him and myself! I have too clean up what you messed up by not telling him prior to the conversation down stairs. What were you thinking?” Gwen says from somewhere closer to the bed I was in.
“I was thinking it wasn’t my place to say anything until we got here. How was I to know he would react the way he did.”
“Well, there’s your problem you didn’t think things through. Now go I’ll handle this when he wakes up.”
“Yes Gwen, I’ll be downstairs if you need me.” After that I heard footsteps leaving and felt a hand brush the hair off my forehead. I force myself to open my eyes. I see Gwen standing by the bed looking at me with a small smile on her face. Wow she is beautiful no wonder she’s a princess. I guess me feeling of needing to protect her were right she is worth protecting.
“Hey, you how are you feeling?” she asks me.
“Like the world was turned upside down.” I say with a small chuckle.
“You want to talk about it?”
“So, you’re a werewolf? How does that work? Do you turn just during the full moon and attack people and turn them?”
“No, so by chance do you recall when I was so sick our sophomore year and you brought me my school work?”
“Yeah, but y’all had a house in town then.”
“That’s right well that was when I got my wolf. A werewolf gets their wolf on their 16th birthday. Then the first full moon after that you shift for the first time. It just so happened that my 16th birthday fell on the full moon, so I got my wolf and shifted on the same night.”
“What do you mean you got your wolf?”
“Basically, I have a wolf spirit that I share a body with when I am in my human form like now I am in control but when I am in wolf form my wolf is in control. Her name is Scout.”
“Wow, like split personality disorder?”
“Funny thing that’s how some people, I won’t name names, but that’s how they diagnose being a were animal.”
“Wait people can shift into other animals too? Not just wolves?”
“Oh yes each person as their own particular animal they can shift into. Would you like to see?”
I think to myself if I am ready for that. I think I am, so I nod my head. Gwen closes her eyes for a second. When she opened them, she said “okay let’s go everyone will meet us down in back.” We head down and through the kitchen and out on to the back patio. Everyone is here including her aunt and Uncle. The guys all have a towel wrapped around their bottom half. “So I told you that not everyone shifts into the same animal. “ I nod my head agreeing with her remembering what she had told me up in the room. “Now remember no one will hurt you and the shift doesn’t hurt us. The guys are going to start. Jake and Jarrett shift into types of birds.” After she says that Jake and Jarrett walk down into the yard. They both take a deep breath and start to transform right in front of my eyes. They both start to shrink and sprout feathers. Within a minute they are both standing there in their bird forms. One looks to be an owl and the other looks to be a hawk. “Okay boys move and let Shawn go next. Shawn shifts into a tiger; remember he will not hurt you.” Shawn takes his turn to shift into his animal. His tiger looks intimidating, but I just remind myself what Gwen told me that he will not hurt me. Lastly, Devon shifts into his animal which is a snake. Looking at Gwen she is not at all comfortable with Devon’s snake I have to fight the urge to bend down and comfort her. “Okay guys thank you y’all can go and get dressed.”
“Wait boys bring me your towels don’t leave them in the yard.” Aunty says and the various animals grabs a towel and takes it to her before going through the door.
As the animals start to head back into the house, I realize that Gwen didn’t shift into her wolf. I was most curious about her wolf Scout. “Wait, are you not going to shift for us?” I ask and all eyes turn to her.
“I will when the guys get back.” Gwen says blushing. I wonder why she would be embarrassed to show us Scout. A few minutes and all the guys are back on the patio in their pervious clothes that they had on when we arrived. Gwen takes a deep breath like she is gathering her nerves and walks down to the yawn. When she gets to the spot, she looks at all of us and says in a very stern voice. “There will be no laughing, or you will suffer the consequences.” All of us being very intimidated just nod our heads.
“Wait don’t you need to get undressed?” Jarrett says earning him another slap on the back of the head but this time from Uncle Gary. “Sorry” Jarrett mutters. Gwen takes a deep breath and starts her shift. Even though she is small because she is a dwarf she still shrinks until we can’t see her in the pile of clothes left on the ground. Then the cutest miniature wolf steps out. Scout is all black but has a red tint to her fur. I crouch down to get a better look at her. I think she is the most beautiful pup I have ever seen. “May I pet you?” I hesitantly ask because I don’t know if it would make her mad. She turns her bright green eyes on me and stares at me for a second looking like she’s considering it, then walks over to me. I run my fingers through her fur, and it is the softest fullest fur I have ever felt.
“Awe” I hear next to me and look over to see none other than Jarrett looking like he’s about to cry from all the cuteness. In an instant Scout launches herself at his chest and he falls to the ground. Scout is on top of him growling. I don’t feel bad because Gwen did warn us. After about a minute of Scout growling on top of a very scared looking Jarrett she hops off and heads into the house.
Aunty gets our attention and has us all go into the house to wash up for diner.
