Chapter Eighteen: A Perfect Storm

1999 Words

“You didn’t tell me she was a total fox, Jaxon!!” Layla chirped as she walked into the library where Jaxon was waiting for her. It was the morning after the girl's night with Sam, Jenny, and Gabriel, and Layla was pretty confident of two things. 1. Sam was totally into girls. 2. Layla was totally into Sam. Layla gave a performative curtsy as she set the plate of scones and coffee on the table in front of the bay window where Jax was sprawled out in the morning sun, as usual. Scooping one of the baked goods up with her coffee, Layla curled up in the armchair Jaxon had dragged over near the bay window. “I didn’t realize she was your type,” Jaxon said as he sat up and awkwardly cleared his throat. Layla didn't miss the slight edge to his voice as he spoke, but she chose to ignore it.
