Two Familiars

Forty-three: Two Familiars Did it say contractor? How could someone respond to his summoning when in the first place, he already has Skia? No. Come to think of it. Skia was not summoned by Kronos. It was Skia who was lured by the grudges of the soul that he killed in his past life, and then Skia proposed a familiar-master relationship. There were no summoning circles and blood involved. The shadow king merely walked into his room and offered a contract out of the blue. It was simply a mutual acknowledgment that was shared between the two. Come to think of it, Kronos did agree to his offer because he felt that the shadow king would be a big help for him to adjust to his new world. But he was not interested in knowing what the contract was. The only thing that Skia explained to him was the greed inside him when the latter got outside of Kronos’ body for the first time. However, other than the greed, the shadow king did not really talk about contracts that much. All Kronos knew was that the shadow king had been with him ever since then. That being said, since Skia was his familiar because of the soul, it would be possible that Skia was the familiar of ‘Dylan’ while raven was the familiar of ‘Kronos.’ Even so. If that was what really the reason that Kronos summoned a proper familiar, he still could not get caught. “Two familiars?” Sir Samael raised a brow. It was unheard of. No one ever had two familiars at the same time. Sir Samael already suspected how exceptional Kronos was. Other than having a unique and unheard potential similar to the holy power, the amount of pressure he had around at the time he devoured a corrupted monster was unbearable. It was as if someone was restricting him from breathing the same air as Kronos. Regardless of that, having two familiars is not possible since blood connects the familiar and the contractor. As the contractor offers his blood, the familiar would be the host of the blood and serve the contractor. And once their blood was already connected to a familiar, they could not summon another one. Hence, he heaved a sigh with a frown and looked at the two familiars that were summoned. “There seemed to be some sort of misunderstanding.” At first, Sir Samael pondered on what to say. And when he had something on mind, he then continued. “One of these two must have been called in the wrong summoning circle. The other side seemed to be performing the ritual with Kronos at the same time.” That was the only possible thing that might have happened. Since it was the day of the summoning ritual, another student must have summoned a familiar at the same time and accidentally entered the portal towards their place. With that being said, Skia replied in a nonchalant tone of voice. “Then I believe that it must be this dragon.” Things would be better if the shadow king did not have any competitors to win its master’s praise. The shadow king could not even imagine the sight of Kronos giving an errand to the cheerful black dragon and then afterward going back with a victory… And then… And then Kronos patting the black dragon’s head and praising as he would be saying, ‘You f*****g did well.’ Skia could not fathom why it felt irksome to imagine, but if it’s like that, then it’s a bad thing! The shadow king might get abandoned. Oh, how poor would it be? Which was why it was very eager to shoo the black dragon away. On the other hand, the black dragon immediately shifted its gaze towards Skia with a scowl and retorted. “Shadow King, crazy?! Contractor summoned raven! Blood contract!” It finally met its contractor after waiting for whatever; how many of years yet the shadow king is denying its existence? He did not wait for everything to be in vain!! Meanwhile, Kronos looked at the sulking black dragon and pondered for a moment. What Sir Samael told him a while ago must be possible. Because one can summon a familiar based on the contractor themselves. Raven and Kronos were total opposites when it comes to personality. He’s not obviously a chatterbox like the black dragon. “What about the shadow king?” Sir Samael shifted his gaze towards Skia. Of course, he needed to know both sides. Since a blood pact is a solid foundation that the black dragon used as an explanation, what would the shadow king use? “I was also summoned by the master.” Skia simply replied. Although it was not true. In fact, Kronos ordered the shadow king to appear after a few moments to put up a show. The other students inside were aware of it too. But how could Skia possibly tell the truth when he was tasked to deceive Sir Samael in the first place? Hearing this, the serious expression of Sir Samael was made into a frown as he flinched and asked once again. “By master, you mean?” A familiar calling someone, their master, only meant one thing. “Yes. An eternal contract.” And that was an eternal contract. There were two types of contract depending on the familiar if they see the summoner as a person bound together with their fate. On the one hand, a normal contract is a contract that expires every five Ezykl calendar years in order to have the freedom to choose the road ahead. Under the normal contract, familiars call their summoner ‘Contractor’ and could also talk in minimal words to their contractors but are capable of speaking freely amongst other familiars. On the other hand, an eternal contract is a contract that could be agreed upon one time only. After having an eternal contract with a familiar, the two of them are bound to be together. The familiar would be having its final breath together with their summoner that they refer to as ‘Master.’ Moreover, familiars with eternal contract can speak naturally to everyone. However, overall, their capabilities were not being limited at all. Either normal contract or eternal contract, both familiars could be a great help to their masters. The only difference was that their way of speech and their blood bond towards their masters. It was said that the reason why a familiar could merely talk in minimal words was that it was to avoid getting attached to their masters verbally. There were circumstances that familiars who felt connected to their masters despite having limited words to stutter ended up having eternal contract with them after one normal contract. As far as Sir Samael tracked on his records, there were no eternal contract holders in his class. Except for Kronos. When he supposed that the situation could not be helped, Sir Samael heaved a sigh and shook his head lightly before looking at Kronos. “That explains why you are able to communicate freely. How did this happen?” That alone made Kronos to flinch. He may be good at swearing, but he was extremely bad at lying in his current life. Hence, Kronos, who was in a cold sweat, looked away as he replied with the same expressionless face. “Well… who f*****g knows?” While Kronos was looking away, he met eyes with Mikhail. And as if desperate enough, he stared at him with the thought of asking for help while praying that Mikhail understood what the stare was for. Since the situation was obvious, Mikhail abruptly knew what Kronos wanted. Mikhail just joined in on their conversation late as he was stunned by Kronos actually asking for help. “Papa. It seems plausible. The two of them were holding different contracts. The shadow king holds the eternal contract, while the black dragon holds the normal contract. So it’s possible that the two of them were summoned at the same time, right?” Unfortunately and fortunately, he was not good at lying, but he was good at making conclusions that would always end up having sense. Hearing this, Kronos felt overjoyed and shortly after pondered again. If it’s like that, then it makes sense too. Besides, the familiar know who summoned them very well because of the blood pact. But what concerns Kronos the most is how it behaves. Sure enough that its seemingly intense black color was intimidating enough. Regardless of that, Raven was always wearing a smiling face. Also, there’s no way that they do not have something in common. For example, incapable of controlling their powers. “I understand where you are coming from, Mikhail.” Sir Samael seemed to also think about it and decided to slide what happened. In any case, it was not a big deal. Given that Kronos is already a mysterious child, perhaps he could turn a blind eye to the result. Hence, after he jotted down the black dragon as the familiar of Kronos, Sir Samael clapped his hands once and announced. “Very well then, Kronos. Congratulations on having a contract with the Shadow King, Skia, and the Black Dragon, Raven.” With that, Skia bowed in front of Kronos and introduced itself as if it was the first time they met each other. “My name is Skia.” At that moment, Kronos suppressed a laugh. He was expecting for a grand talk like how it did well when he was merely three days old. However, the shadow king was so stiff that the only thing Skia said was its name. Setting aside his laughter, the black dragon stepped forward and bowed its head without saying anything before raising its head and beamed. “Raven is raven!” In a serious manner, the black dragon was really omitting a very dangerous aura. It may be a faint one. However, even if the black dragon uses its cheerful mask as a guise, there’s nothing that could escape Kronos’ sensitivity in regards to feeling the aura of other living things. Sooner or later, he would find it out. As of that moment, Kronos needed to act as if he knew nothing. Hence, he pointed at Skia and then at Raven with his usual expressionless look together with a dry order. “You. Dog. You. Bird.” Kronos still needed to make his two familiars into small creatures because they were in the middle of hiding their identities. Well, at the very least, Skia would change into a puppy because it was so huge to fit in his cradle back then. But now, they really had a reason to do so. As for the black dragon, it was the same size as Ichor, and its presence was also pretty noticeable. He would also want to go with a bat. However, after pondering for a moment, Kronos suddenly remembered that the black dragon called itself as Raven. So the black dragon raven as a ‘raven’ was not too bad at all. With that being said, Skia, who was immune to how Kronos would order someone flawlessly, shifted himself into a dog without even batting an eye. They have been together for thirteen years, Skia knew its master so well, and it wanted to show off in front of the new familiar that Kronos acquired. Seeing this, Raven looked at Skia with disbelief and then looked at Kronos with an awful expression. But then Kronos merely stood and waited for the black dragon to change itself. That was why the black dragon started to put its lips and mumbled while turning into a literal raven. “Contractor, cold. Raven neglected but will abide and follow.” After everything was settled, Sir Samael then looked at the two familiars that Kronos ‘summoned’ and then heaved a loud sigh before looking at his other students who were in quite a distance from where the summoning circle was. “That’s it for today. As for supper, you can either eat at the canteen or at the dorm feel free. I will get going now.” “Yes, Papa!” With that being said, along with a paper of results in his hand, Sir Samael turned around and walked towards the exit of the summoning hall.
