Twenty-nine: The Furtive of Kronos
Actually, Kronos did not purify the corrupted octopi. More on, he absorbed the corruption from it that was equal to dark energy. And that dark energy was his only food supplement in order for him to control the greed inside him.
In his thirteen years of existence, Kronos knew two things that would trigger the greed to go berserk was that if Kronos could not control his anger and that he could not take dark energy on time.
And right at that moment, he then discovered the third possible reason. And that would be when the greed inside Kronos could sense the corruption. It would not hesitate to eat it even though the effort to eat other dark energy before it. He may have fought a corrupted monster before, but Kronos merely used Skia to snatch its core as soon as possible, which was probably why he did not act like that in his first experience.
In other words, in order for Kronos to stay sane, he kills living things with dark energy and eats their heart as the heart is the cage of emotion. Other than his familiar, the shadow king, Skia, the only person who knew about it was, of course, the crown prince Eros. As for the other people around him, they were not aware of anything. Since he pulled off a stunt a while ago, Kronos also thought of letting them believe that he had dark purification magic other than telling them that he eats living things to retain his sanity.
After being out of the world for a long time, Kronos felt a leather being pushed in his abdomen and a warm, familiar voice talking to him. “Kronos! Let’s go back to the classroom!”
It was Astian who was giving him his bag with only one notebook inside. It seemed like Kronos forgot to snatch his bag as his mind was filled with many thoughts.
With that being said, Kronos got a grip on his bag before wearing it over one shoulder with the bag freely hanging. A moment later, he then gave Astian a pat on his head before stretching his lips ever so slightly. “Right.”
The pat on the head was not new to Astian. The first time Kronos gave him a pat on the head, Astian felt flustered. But then, Kronos started to randomly pat his head. When they’re walking, the time they eat at the cafeteria, at the boutique, and even at the classroom. He was not opposed to it, although he was curious as to why Kronos was acting like he was a pet. In any way, pets are cute, so he would shrug off the thought all the time.
As soon as they stepped foot outside of the public restroom, the night sky was already aglow with bright street academy lights. When all of them looked up at the blanket of the stars that stretched to infinity, the one that caught their attention the most was the pale crescent moon that shone like a silvery claw in the night sky. It was so big as if it was near, yet it was so far.
“Wow... It’s already dark!” Luca commented with a laugh as he was also enjoying the scene.
“Yeah. And it’s not a full moon. What a relief.” Yohan heaved a sigh of relief as he remembered his Lycan form being revealed by itself when the full moon blooms.
They had their own comments as soon as they stepped foot outside. Some were fascinated by how the public restroom changed after the battle with the corrupted monster or what constellations were present at that night.
Of course, Astian has something to say too. He looked at the moon and then shifted his gaze towards Kronos with a warm smile. “The moon. The moon is beautiful, is it not?”
With that being said, Kronos was at first baffled by what Astian said. He stared at Astian for a moment before looking at the moon, giving light to every way that has been devoured by darkness. It was truly beautiful.
“Very.” He replied as soon he shifted his gaze towards Astian once again.
Knowing that he had someone new by his side, Kronos felt that he should do well in hiding his dark secret.
On a perfect timing, Sir Samael stopped their chatter as he cleared his throat and announced in his usual serious expression and tone of voice. “You kids may not know, but you were fighting the corrupted octopi eight hours straight.”
Truthfully, Sir Samael was not expecting for the kids to finish it in a span of four hours. At their age, a team could successfully end a ferocious battle in fifteen hours at most. Even though it would seem that they were just in there for an hour, the time in a personal dimension made by a corrupted monster is different from the outside world.
With that being said, Asisi was agape as he replied in a shocked tone of voice. “What?! No wonder I’m hungry!”
“There’s already food in the dorm. Worry not.” Sir Samael replied as he signaled the class to follow him.
As soon as they heard of the word food, everyone got excited as they started to stride on the way to their dorm. What’s good after such an exhausting battle? Of course, it’s food. Everyone played their part well that was why they deserve a hearty meal after everything. However, there were still some of them that were down as their potential did not help with the termination of the corrupted octopi.
That’s just it. They were excited about the food, but Kronos was scowling with a hint of confusion in his eyes and tone of voice. “Dorm?”
First, it was the unexpected epitropi of the Exi class, now a dorm? How did he not know a damn thing? Perhaps his mother and father knew it. That was why they acted as if any time soon, he would be away from them. But for what reasons did they keep it a secret?
Upon hearing this, Asisi then looked back to Kronos and replied with a laugh. “Yes. We have a dorm. Did you not know?”
With that being said, Kronos then looked at Asisi with a scowl. It was then Asisi thought that he could hear Kronos saying, ‘Would I ask if I know?’ in his mind. Was that how Astian could understand Kronos?
No, Kronos was just readable. He may not look like it, but he was like an open book.
“Well, your parents probably did not tell you on purpose. They even did not tell you about the Exi class, especially her excellency, the great mage.”
One thing was for sure, Kronos wanted to go home and let them explain everything.
Having a habit of reading Kronos, Astian then leaned towards him and smiled. “You can’t go home. It’s already dark~.”
It was already dark, and it sure was already past curfew. There would be no more carriages that would travel around, and if there would possibly be a carriage, then it’s a dangerous one. Even though Kronos could handle that much, he still does not wish for the others to worry just because of his selfishness.
Henceforth, Kronos did not furthermore argue as they continued on walking. “Yeah.”
When they arrived at the two buildings that were the girl’s dormitory and boy’s dormitory, Kronos thought that they would already part ways with the ladies. But then, unexpectedly, Sir Samael merely walked past away from the buildings and instead took a right turn as soon as they arrived at a small forest inside the Academy.
After a minute of walking, Kronos then saw an enormous mansion that was erected in the middle of the forest. It was an elegant-looking mansion that was on par with their estate.
Even before someone could comment about it, Sir Samael looked at them and smiled, “What do you kids think?”
“Papa, whose mansion is that?” Asisi asked in amusement.
Hearing this, Sir Samael then nodded as if he was a proud father to thirteen sons and replied, “Mansion? Can you all see a mansion?”
When everyone nodded or replied with a yes, Sir Samael then continued. “I see that’s good. People who do not belong to the Exi class would see it as a shabby and old dormitory. This mansion is the Exi’s dormitory, by the way.”
As soon as Sir Samael announced it, almost everyone started to dash towards the mansion with excitement. How privileged were they to have such a fantastic mansion as a dormitory for themselves?
When Luca pushed the door open, everyone then roamed their eyes around the interior of the mansion with awe. It was well-maintained, as if someone was currently living there. However, there were no maidservants around. What a remarkable magic mansion!
Sir Samael was the last to enter the mansion. And as soon as he entered, he clapped his hands one and announced to the class. “First things first. Let us elect our class mayor and vice mayor right here, right now.”
With that being said, all of them halted from what they were doing and looked at Sir Samael. It was, of course, kind of unsettling as elections of officers were to be held at the classroom in the usual setting. Furthermore, all of them were famished and exhausted to even think of a representative.
Which was why Luca raised his hand and asked with uncertainty, “Papa, can we elect tomorrow? I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s hungry and drowsy after everything.”
Luca got the point. No one even tried to oppose his suggestion as it seemed to be the other’s concern.
But regardless of their plea, Sir Samael looked at them with a firm look and replied. “No. Elect right now. Besides, it’s only the mayor and vice-mayor position. Choose two capable people. Can you not think of anyone? Is everyone exhausted because of a mere corrupted monster?”
Hearing those last words from Sir Samael, everyone flinched as if affected and then looked at Sir Samael with their brows furrowed.
Sir Samael surely pressed their buttons. One nature of an Exi was that they were born with so much pride when it comes to others, but then sympathize with their fellow kind. Hence, with Sir Samael outright insulting the whole class, they could not help but to be affected.
They would forget about their exhaustion...
“The class mayor with no doubt, Mikhail. Right guys?”
… and their brains would work faster than the adrenaline rush.
“Yeah. Mikhail led the class for eight hours straight. That was pretty impressive.”
It may be an exaggeration to say. However, that’s what Exi class was. To forget everything with just merely triggering words and interact with each other as if letting anyone know that they were not the one that’s easy to be trampled on. That sure was a good trait. However, in the school full of discrimination, Sir Samael still wonders how a foul mouthed student could actually be alive after talking with the Exi.
Snapping back to reality, Sir Samael then crossed his arms and looked at everyone. “Anyone who objects?”
“None.” They replied in unison.
Hearing this, Sir Samael suppressed a smirk as he cleared his throat and looked at Mikhail with his usual serious expression. “Very well. Mikhail, do you accept the responsibility that your classmates entrusted you with?”
‘Look at them acting cold when earlier they look at me with childish expressions.’
At first, Mikhail blankly stared at Sir Samael. But then, shortly after, he slightly bowed and replied. “Of course, Papa.”
‘Even Mikhail.’
Well, he saw it coming. Pushing their buttons also meant that he was an enemy to them. But what could they do? He was the teacher assigned to them. Besides, Sir Samael does not harbor any ounce of worry. As he clearly heard Mikhail call him Papa. They were not hostile, just being indifferent.
Thoughts aside, Sir Samael announced as he once again looked at them and waited for their nominations. “It’s settled then. Mikhail is now officially the class mayor of Exi. Now let’s go with the vice-mayor.”
Kallen, “I respectfully nominate Aeria.”
Yohan, “Yeah. I second the motion.”
Sir Samael then looked at the other, and since their gazes seemed to be having the same thoughts with Aeria as the vice-mayor, he then proceeded to shift his gaze towards Aeria. “It has been moved and seconded by Kallen and Yohan. Aeria, do you want the position?”
“A pleasure.” She copied Mikhail with the same blank expression. Now, now, on a split second, the old man worried as Aeria did not mention ‘Papa.’
He would take it into account. Electing was not necessary.
As a matter of fact, Sir Samael’s main intention was for his selfishness. And that was it would be a pain in the ass if he were to take care of the kids by taking them to their room. He still had to come by the kitchen and check the food that they would be serving.
“Alright then. Mikhail, Aeria, help the class with finding their rooms. The luggage that was sent by your respective parents is already in your rooms, alright? Once finished, go down to the dining hall.” He ordered as he turned around and started to walk towards the direction of the kitchen.
Even before he could go that far, he heard Mikhail replied and pictured out the kid dipping his head slightly. “I shall do as you say.”
