Thirteen: The Strange Guy
“Uhm… Where are you taking me?” Upon hearing that, Kronos then halted. They already passed through the crowd where the seniors were left dumbfounded by his behavior.
Kronos initially planned to embarrass the members of the student council as they were not doing their job well and afterward let them deal with the harassment. However, it seemed like Kronos was not very good at controlling his irritation and unconsciously pulled the young lad away from the crowd.
Well, it couldn't be helped. As Kronos already did a good deed first thing in the morning. Might as well do another one. “You were about to f*****g ask where the examination building is, right? I’ll f*****g take you there.”
Before Kronos said that, he looked back to meet the young lad's eyes. And after speaking, he looked back to their route as he once again pulled the person he was gripping his hands with.
The young lad, on the other hand, frowned upon hearing Kronos swear at him. Earlier when Kronos endlessly swore at the seniors, he did not make a comment as they kind of deserved the swearing. However, in his case, he did not even do anything that's offensive. Let alone complaining about Kronos pulling him as he sees fit.
Hence, the young lad halted and pulled his hand away. The confused Kronos also halted and looked back to see the young lad's brows almost knitted to each other, a pouting face, and a crossed arms.
Kronos looked at him as if asking what's wrong, and the young lad replied with a nagging tone of voice. “Okay, but please don’t say bad words. I am a good guy.”
With that being said, Kronos massaged the bridge of his nose and heaved a sigh. “Haah. My bad. I’ve been f*****g cursed.”
He can lecture people. Why did he act like he was merely an innocent airhead a while ago? Surely he could just report it to the student council rather than looking at them pathetically as if looking down on the seniors.
‘What a strange guy.’
“A curse?” The young lad asked. His expression changed into a curious one as he slightly tilted his head.
Seeing this, Kronos stared at him and then shortly looked away to walk again. He's better when he's silent. Moreover, the young lad seemed afflicted when he's swearing. That was why he did not bother to reply.
When they reached the building, the young lad asked again and again until Kronos finally saw his name in one of the classrooms. “Don’t ask.”
That said, the young lad smiled and nodded as he looked at the list outside the classroom where they were standing and looked at him cheerfully. “Okay, okay! Ah, here’s my room. What about yours?”
“Same.” Kronos simply replied as he entered the room.
His behavior then made the young lad to feel uneasy. Was Kronos mad when he pulled his hand and acted indignantly? “Are you mad? Why are your replies so small?”
“Do you want me to f*****g swear at you?” Kronos looked at him as he sat on an empty seat.
So that's it!
The young lad thought that he was mean to Kronos and was worried to the point that he could not help but to heave a sigh of relief before smiling warmly once again. “No, okay, okay. I understand. Then, let’s do our best!”
Kronos nodded as he straightened his back when a lady with a bunch of floating envelopes entered the room. "Is everyone already here? Just to make sure, I'll do some roll calls. Raise your hand if your name is called."
That being said, the Instructor then started to call the examinee's names. And when Kronos was waiting for his name to be called, the young lad beside him poked the back of his palm.
"Psst!"
Kronos, “?”
"I forgot to tell you my name!" He beamed.
Kronos then slightly tilted his head and replied. "Name?"
"Yes~ My name is-"
Even before he could say his name, when the Instructor called a name, he halted and looked in front. "Astian Dyclour."
"Here!" Astian raised his hand with a smile. The Instructor seemed to be bewitched by his friendliness that she smiled and nodded.
Shortly after that, Astian then shifted his gaze towards Kronos, who was staring at him while the Instructor continued on calling for names. "That's my name! My name is Astian Dyclour. Thank you for your help a while ago. What about you? What's your name?"
When he was being prepared by the maidservants, his grandfather accompanied him up until he was introduced by the public. Lord Drakora does not wish for his only grandson to be embarrassed in front of the nobles. That was why he taught Kronos everything he needed to know in a short period of time.
And as far as Kronos could remember, the Dyclour family is a Duchy handled by a human named Picero Dyclour who married a vampire named Rosera Dyclour. It is also known to the social circles how Picero decided to be a vampire because of his beloved Rosera, who lives longer than humans.
‘So, they had a son.’
When their son would be in the picture, it seems like the Duke decided to become a vampire because of his son, who probably inherited his mother’s blood more than his father’s.
“It would be a shame if Duke Dyclour could not watch his son grow as human life is merely short if I were to make a comment.” Skia shrugged.
Thoughts aside, as Kronos recalled that Astian does not fancy ‘bad words’, he shifted his gaze in front and focused on the Instructor once again. "..."
Seeing his behavior, Astian titled his head slightly as if wondering why he would not tell his name. And after a short moment, when the Instructor called a particular name, Kronos looked at him.
"Kronos Azvameth."
With that being said, Kronos raised his hand as his eyes were still locked towards Astian. "Kronos."
At first, Astian was agape, just like how Kronos stared at him when he said his name. He sure heard that name somewhere. Of course, knowing his attitude, Astian pondered for a moment as he was searching the pits of his brain for an answer.
And when he finally remembered, the latter looked at him and beamed. "Oh! The Azvameth’s sole heir! You just had your public debut, right? I wanted to go to the banquet. However, my mother and father forbade me to go so I was not able to go. In any way, nice to meet you, Kronos! Good luck!"
"Mm."
Astian sure talks a lot. Was it because he saved his ass earlier. Or, he’s just like that? As far as his memory serves him right, when he greeted the Dyclour couple together with his parents, the two of them acted elegantly and reservedly. However, the fruit of their labor is too friendly. Kronos might actually believe that he’s adopted if not for his hair color and eye color.
Astian, on the other hand, smiled warmly when he heard Kronos’ response. "Yes~ I'll do my best too!"
Shortly after, when the Instructor finished calling everyone and confirmed that everyone was already present, she flicked her hands, and the piles of envelopes started floating in front of every row. Every student except Kronos looked at it in awe while the Instructor cleared her throat before speaking.
"Alright listen up! I will be passing out the examination papers later on, and once you start writing something on the paper, your timer will also start. If you're done then, pass it in front, and you may get out of the classroom. However, keep in mind that the results will be released thirty minutes after you've all passed your paper. So remember to get back in this classroom or some other classroom and see if your name is on the official list and what class you will be attending."
The Instructor paused for a moment as she swayed her finger, and the floating piles of envelopes landed safely on each front table. "That would be all. Get one piece of examination envelope and pass it on the back."
With that being said, the examinees then started to get serious and passed the envelopes in the back. When it was Kronos’ turn, he got one envelope and ordered Skia to pass it on the back. Nobody seemed to notice Skia that no one reacted and that made Kronos to be pleased with his swiftness.
When it was time for Kronos to open the envelope, he was then astonished and started to snicker.
‘The f**k is this? This is so f*****g easy!’
Mathematics was basic algebra. Science was easy and so many more subjects. Since Kronos was in his house most of the time, he would always go to his parent’s room without their knowledge and read books. Hence, even the subject of the Empire’s history was very easy for him.
It was then, Kronos assumed that he would be in the top class.
