Thirty-two: The Rules and Regulations
“In other words, all of you are masters of masters that are in need of protection. That is why all of you are in the lowest class in order to avoid the church’s eyes.” Sir Samael ended as he sliced his steak and took a bite.
In conclusion, it was all because of the high priest who seemed to worship only one god, and that was the goddess Gaia.
Regardless of the story, it does not make any sense. Why on earth would they be hiding and letting the high priest execute each masters of masters wherein the fact that they possess great potential to destroy the high priest himself?
“Why are we hiding when our potential surpasses even the great mages? The high priest would be nothing.” Aeria scoffed as she abruptly emptied a cup of fruit juice.
It’s not like they were in the wrong or anything. Why was the one closest to the goddess a villain?
Yet, there was a sole reason as to why the elders could do nothing but to hide the masters of masters.
Unfortunately, even Sir Samael kind of despised the current situation and even the goddess Gaia. “The high priest personally received the title for the goddess Gaia herself. Under the protection of the goddess, no harm could ever kill him.” He responded.
What came after the train of explanation from Sir Samael was a silence that overlaid the dining hall. No clanks of spoon and fork were ever heard. No murmurs from the loudmouths for the reason that everyone was in deep thought about their current situation. It was as if everyone was walking on thin ice. Why must they suffer? It was not their choice to have such potential in the first place.
Shortly after the moment of silence, a mumble from Mikhail broke the ice. “The goddess.”
Hearing this, everyone shifted their gaze towards Mikhail. “Huh?”
Mikhail seemed to be talking to himself that when he felt their gazes, he was taken aback and looked at them with confusion. As soon as he realized that he voiced out his thoughts, Mikhail looked at them with a sullen expression and asked them. “The goddess bestowed him the title out of pureness. If the high priest grew evil, then would that also mean that the goddess would not protect him anymore?”
That’s what Kronos thought too. Getting something out of pureness and kindness would always repay with the same thing. However, in any picture you could see, the high priest was actually tainted with evil.
With that conclusion, Kronos took a bite on his meal as he simply shifted his gaze towards Sir Samael, who pondered for a moment before replying, “That would be plausible, Mikhail. However, do you all know that the high priest we currently have is an immortal human? And on top of that, the son of the goddess herself?”
If that was it then, the high-priest lived since the genus war? And on top of that, he was the first and would probably be the last high priest ever to exist in the Ezkyl Empire. Regardless of the goddess Gaia being the mother of the high priest, would it be unfair for the children who lost their lives just because of the potential they never wanted to have in the first place?
“What? That’s probably the reason why the goddess could not dare execute the high priest. A motherly love, perhaps?” Astian commented beside him.
A motherly love? How big was that love the goddess Gaia had to the high priest that she could not even smack her own son for being obsessed with her?
But as what Astian said, it would be a love like how he loved his parents in his second life.
“Perhaps.” He replied as he once again took a bite of his meal.
With his commentary, silence once again blanketed the dining hall. Who would not fall into silence? It’s a once in a blue moon event that Kronos would join in the conversation. Truthfully, when they told Kronos that he could just talk to them even with the curse, they already knew that it would be a waste. Who on earth would be talkative after being silent for years? Probably not Kronos.
The class may not have discussed it. However, they had one goal. And that was to make Kronos and Ajax talkative at the end of the school year. Exi sure loved challenges; hence that was the challenge that they bestowed upon themselves.
On the other hand, Sir Samael was kind of disappointed as neither Kronos nor Ajax called him Papa. So it was a challenge he bestowed upon himself too, that sooner or later, he could hear the word Papa coming out from their mouth.
As of the moment, rules and regulations were their next topic. “Now that you all already know, I now can tell you the rules of the class.”
Now that Sir Samael mentioned it, Kronos thought how weird the Exi could be. Aside from being the said masters of masters, the teacher assigned seemed to be lazy enough as the classroom rules and regulations should be told inside the classroom. What Sir Samael should be talking about as of the moment was the dorm rules and regulations, not the class.
Well, he was but a mere student who luckily got into the lowest class. Kronos should not complain. Instead, when Sir Samael raised his hand and motioned a number one, Kronos focused on listening. “Never let anyone know your identity. Never show your real potential to anyone and never kill in public. Should anyone witness your true potential, eliminate them immediately but secretly.”
With that being said, Kronos felt as if he was struck by a significant impact inside of his body. Whether it was a shivering sensation that was running down his spine or cold feet. He was all up for those.
Killing. That was what Kronos did for a living in his past life. He would kill anyone innocent or not. They die in the hands of the invincible assassin, Dylan. What was it that he promised himself when he was reborn? That was to avoid having the same faith. However, because of the grudge of the souls that he killed, he had the shadow king as the familiar and found out about his greed.
In order to protect the people around him, even though it was out of the thing he fancied, he still killed and ate those vengeful hearts. But that was all to it. Kronos thought that he would be a typical student at first. But then enraged as he was sent into the lowest class. Regardless of this, his irritation did not last for that long as his parents were surprisingly happy for him. Hence, he thought that he would just enjoy the lowkey life as long as it did not involve killing any further.
But what the actual f**k was their rules and regulation? Would they serve the school by doing the dirty work on the pretext of epitropi? The activity to enhance their potential? For a reason, he wanted to drop out.
“What about our parents?” Yohan asked that made Kronos to get back into the reality.
Hearing this, Sir Samael shrugged. “What about yours? They already know I personally talked to them the night after the entrance examination. If they did not mention anything, then probably your parents wanted to figure it out yourselves.”
The dining table started to get noisy as they once again shared their comments about the Exi’s secret and the rules and regulations. But none of those were apparent to Kronos, who was once again in his own world.
He wanted to drop out, but would it be possible? Considering that they were no ordinary people who were gathered by the goddess Gaia’s order herself.
After a blurred murmur as if he was under a deep ocean, Kronos suddenly felt that his ear could finally hear everything and was adjusting to the words spoken.
The voice he first heard was from Asisi, who placed down his spoon and fork and laughed. “Wew, after the storytelling papa told us, I’m full.”
“Likewise.” Aeria also chuckled as she cleaned her mouth using the table napkin provided.
When Astian noticed that Kronos already placed his spoon and fork on his plate, the latter looked at the former and smiled. “Oh, Kronos, your plate is already clean.”
Well, he really does not need to announce it to everyone. Now that the whole class knew that he was done, they then started to stare at him as if waiting for him to do something rare. For example, speaking.
Whatever would he do? If he’d not speak because of his laziness, they would continue staring at him. Even Astian was looking at him with anticipation.
Thus, Kronos then wiped his mouth using the table napkin provided and stood up without that much choice. “Let’s go.”
Hearing those words, the others then started to stand up, which made Kronos to show off a surprised expression. Were they waiting for him to give orders? It’s not as if they’re his underlings or anything. However, it kind of reminds him of his past life where he was the second only most powerful to his father.
Even Astian, who seemed to like the expression Kronos showed off, slowly stood up and smiled warmly towards him. “Okay~”
That was it. The only person that remained in his seat was Sir Samael.
“Papa, we are going to sleep now!” Luca announced as he looked at Sir Samael, who was still on his seat despite having an empty plate in front of him.
