Farewell, Reifide

1570 Words
Eleven: Farewell, Reifide After a few moments, Demiris showed up with a disapproving expression on his face. He seemed to be uncomfortable with the guests that arrived. But should he behave like that in front of his father, Drakora? Was there a family feud that Kronos was ignorant of?  In the first place, he does not know that much about his mother and his father. All he knew was that they were living in the village named Reifide peacefully. And there he thought that they were just a normal family who could not even afford a name if not for his hardworking father. Seriously, what a headache. Kronos was really absorbed in keeping the promise that he made for himself and remained a good son profile. Lest the case getting mistakes that he once regretted, Kronos thought that ignorance is bliss. Moreover, because of his bad habit of swearing, he could not carelessly open his mouth and ask even if he wanted to. Drakora seemed to notice Kronos being uneasy as he sliced through his steak and took every bit of it. Hence, the good old grandfather of his eyed Hethera and Demiris with a serious tone of voice. "Hm? My grandson seemed to be quite disoriented with what's happening. Demiris, Hethera, did you not tell him?" 'Woah. Master's grandfather is quick with catching things up.' Skia commented as he popped out of nowhere.  With such an act, Kronos suddenly jolted that made the adults to look at him. With the tension that he was getting, Kronos then showed off his ability to stir the adult's hearts. And that was a slightly tilted head together with an innocent look on his face. Seeing how Kronos acted weak and innocent, Drakora and Aora then shifted their gaze back to Hethera and Demiris.  Hethera, on the other hand, replied with a nervous chuckle. "That, father… I might have forgotten to tell Kronos." 'You motherfucker. Don't shamelessly pop out of f*****g nowhere. You want me to f*****g die?!' Kronos replied after everyone's attention was diverted to Drakora's question.  With that being said, Skia looked down and whimpered. "I just came from my mission, yet Master scolded me. I even farmed more than what Master told me. Is this Master's way of saying thank you?" "Don't look at me like that, father. I am busy with protecting the village!" Demiris suddenly scowled as he took a spoonful of food.  Kronos, on the other hand, mentally heaved a sigh and looked at the adults who were busy arguing before he gave Skia a pat on his head. For thirteen years of having Skia as his familiar, its attitude also changed. It seemed to want his praise every time he would let him run some errand.  When the adults seemed to be done with arguments, Drakora heaved a sigh and shrugged. "Well, it can't be helped then." "We will be the one responsible for telling you everything." Lady Aora added as she looked at Kronos with a smile. Drakora and Aora then came up with an agreement to explain slowly. Hence, Lady Aora should explain Hethera’s story, and Lord Drakora should explain Demiris’ story. With that, everyone was silent while Lady Aora was explaining.  Like what Skia taught him, the god did not create the world for humans only. There were also different kinds of species that were classified as ‘Genus’. The Human Genus, the Demon Genus, the Vampire Genus, the Lycan Genus, the Hybrid Genus, and much more.  Long ago, it was said that the other Genus made the humans as their slaves as they were powerless. The god took pity and decided to bestow a gift upon them, and that was potential. Upon having potential, they fought back against the other Genus and finally achieved world peace and harmony as no one was below to someone ever again. That said, the front-liners who fought back to the other Genus were the humans with potential stronger than one hundred of them combined. And they were then later on called mages and were given a home by the kings of Human Genus. Their home was called Magi Tower. It was then passed down from generation to generation. And as a direct descendant of the one who led the rebellion, Hethera Morlin from the house of Mages was the Great Mage who was currently in charge of the [Empire of Ezkyl’s Magi Tower.]  Up until that point, Kronos then shifted his gaze towards his gentle-looking mother with a disbelief expression. ‘Mom’s a f*****g leader of a tower full of f*****g mages?’ “That’s why we need the Great Mage back to the Magi Tower. Your break is over, Hethera.” Lady Aora heaved a loud sigh.  Hearing this, Hethera chuckled as she raised her pointer finger and automatically cleaned the table as everyone was already finished with their food.  At first, Kronos merely thought that his mother was a normal citizen with a lighthearted potential. It seemed like if he were to make Hethera mad, he'd be burned to pieces. “Ahem, it’s my turn now, it is not?” As Drakora explained, he was a neutral Marquess who had an only son and that was Demiris. Demiris was a combat mage in the Magi Tower, and that was where he met Hethera. They soon got married. However, one of the villages under Marquess Drakora was in danger because of the monsters lurking around the village.  With that, Drakora sent his only son to the Reifide Village to protect the citizens. And that was when Hethera, the Great Mage followed Demiris and had their son Kronos. It was supposed to be merely a year of stay, and Drakora kidn*pped Kronos on his birthday for Demiris and Hethera to come back. However, Kronos unexpectedly escaped. Demiris and Hethera reasoned out that the village was still in need of protection; that was why they lived peacefully in the village up until Kronos was thirteen years old.  “Now, go home and manage the house, Demiris. This old man wants to have a vacation.” Drakora remarked as he massaged his temples out of frustration.  Demeris should have been the Marquess by that time. And he should have been on a vacation if not for his son's stubbornness. Drakora was already old as he was. He could not afford to die because of work exhaustion. Lady Aora seemed to feel the same way as she looked at Hethera with a desperate look on her face. “Me too, Hethera. Go back and lead the Magi Tower. I gave you a lot of time already. I also want to go on vacation.” Just like Lord Drakora, Lary Aora was the one taking care of Hethera's workload in the Magi Tower. When she was still young, probably three hundred years of age, Lady Aora could spend her time leisurely after teaching the successor of the Magi Tower. However, in Hethera's case, after her succession, she immediately left together with Demiris. She missed the vacation that she used to have. “But the village-” Demiris retorted.  Regardless, both of the elders had enough. Lady Aora cut him off and replied with a laugh. “Worry not. We sent other combat mages to live in the village as a guard. Don’t you wish for Kronos to miss the luxury that he should have had?” “But…” Hethera hesitated.  They honestly do not want to have the life they had back then. When they had Kronos, Hethera thought that it would be safer for Kronos to stay at home and being homeschooled by Hethera herself. Demiris, on the other hand, follows Hethera. That was why he was also opposed to it. Moreover, Demiris was uncertain if Kronos would wish to have a life full of enemies as he was aware of how nobility was. Seeing how the couple reacted, Lady Aora and Lord Drakora looked at each other and heaved a loud sigh.  Well, they had one card left. “Hethera, don’t be so stubborn. I already sent an application about Kronos entering an academy. Tomorrow will be the entrance exam.” Drakora replied.  With that being said, Demiris felt furious. He abruptly looked at Lord Drakora with his eyes almost red and his teeth grinding towards each other. “Father! You did not even consult us, or at least Kronos since he would be the one attending the academy!” How could they decide on their own? Not only did he push them to go back to the Imperial Capital but also interfered with Kronos' life. Hethera and Demiris tried so much within their power to give Kronos his freedom to choose anything that's related to him, yet his father would suddenly announce something like that? Hearing this, everyone eyed Kronos. Of course, no one was forcing him. However, Kronos already made his decision as soon as he heard that his grandfather already paved the way for him. Hence, he pushed back the table and got out of his chair before bowing to everyone and walked away.  Seeing this, Demiris stood up and asked his son with a scowl. “Kronos, where are you going?” They were still in the middle of a discussion. Was Kronos uncomfortable? Nevertheless, contrary to his worries, Kronos halted without looking back and merely said one word.  “Pack.”
