Fifty-four: Club Picking
“Normal student?!” Everyone asked in a shocked tone of voice and manner.
Their voices seemed to be loud that the birds resting outside the cabin of Lord Dio flapped their wings and flew away. More importantly, the Lord and the Lady, who were silently observing them, covered their ears even before they could react as if they were expecting for the kids to react that way.
Sir Samael seemed to have a healthy eardrum that he was still in his default position, which was crossing his arms as he raised a brow and replied to them. “What of it? Got any objections?”
His question definitely says that ‘one objection and that would be the end of you all.’
Hence, everyone immediately behaved and minded their manners once again as they replied in unison. “None, sir.”
“Then good. The first thing that you all will be doing after playing as a normal student is to have a club.” Sir Samael replied as he leaned back on the chair that he was sitting on.
It was a favorable thing for both Sir Samael and the kids. On the one hand, the kids could have extracurricular activities by joining a club that they like. That way, they could build connections with other students and at the same time do things that they like as a normal person studying at the Academy. Moreover, since they were in a brawl with the monsters for a month, would it be rewarding to have them take a rest?
With that being said, on the other hand, Sir Samael could have more hours of sleep because the kids would go straight to their clubs after class hours. That way, the good teacher won’t be supervising them and could go directly towards their dormitory.
Hence, Sir Samael thought that it was a win-win situation for both parties.
However, he did not take into account what the other party had in mind.
“What club? Can we just make our own club? The other kids would just bully us anyway.” Asisi said in a carefree tone of voice.
Even though Asisi and the other kids considered the topic as something heavy, they could get into the same situation more often if they didn’t point it out and beg to differ. They may act that it doesn’t bother them, but deep inside, their blood boils.
Even Kronos sometimes just wanted to kill everyone in the Academy. But since they were in a hiding, he could not afford for the class to be punished merely because of his irrational action.
Thus, the only thing that the Exi class could do was to stop interacting with other students and make a club on their own instead.
Regardless of them sharing their sentiments towards their instructor, they were unfortunate enough to have a pair of emotionless eyes staring at them as if their feelings did not matter.
“Then that’s a mission for all of you then. To make the bullies be kind to you.” Sir Samael uttered in the same tone Asisi brought up the topic.
Hearing this, the kids flinched as they felt a pressure coming from Sir Samael. And with that, they immediately knew that they could not convince him in any way.
But making all of the students to like them was pure impossible. Moreover, they were not born to impress everyone.
Which was why Inoa looked at Sir Samael with her usual frowning face and asked. “You mean we will be getting rid of the hierarchy system in the Academy that even the grandmasters were turning a blind eye to?”
Hearing this, Sir Samael tilted his head slightly as he replied to Inoa’s question with yet another question. “Is something the matter? Can you all not do it?”
And just with that, it felt like it was the easiest and most obvious question Sir Samael uttered in his entire life that everyone in the Exi replied in unison. “Of course not!”
Well, not everyone. Kronos merely shook his head as he looked at Sir Samael with a scowl. He just sometimes could not get what Sir Samael was thinking about. Sometimes he cares for them, and sometimes he doesn’t. Was it a typical circumstance for a man growing old and was seemed to be still a virgin? That’s probably the reason why he’s unreadable.
‘Because he’s a f*****g virgin.’
Sir Samael was indeed a virgin and stubborn. He looked at the kids with discontent as he replied in a way that no one could ever convince him and that he would not change his mind. “Then you should all at least be on good terms with your club members.”
What’s good with kids who are anti-social anyway? Friends other than themselves might save them from their troubles one day. That way, even if Sir Samael would not be around, at least they have someone to call for help other than him.
On the other hand, the kids felt that they could really not win against their teacher that Mikhail looked at the rest of them and heaved a loud sigh. “I guess we do not have that much choice. Let’s just do what papa says.”
Just thinking about being in the same space as those people who would stare at them with disgust and judging eyes, they could not help but to feel nauseous. But then, Sir Samael always provides everything that puts the Exi to an advantage. That’s why they just have to place their trust in their teacher and follow him.
“Fine.” The others agreed after a few moments of pondering.
With that issue being settled, Sir Samael then stood up as he took a glance at the silently observing couple on the side with a soft expression on his face. “Now, let’s go back, and don’t forget to thank Lord Gio and Lady Carmilla.”
“Yes, Papa!” The kids replied as they also stood up.
Shortly after the conversation, they prepared themselves to go back to the Academy and bid goodbye to Lord Gio and his wife, Lady Carmilla, who gave them some baskets of cookies to eat on the way. At first, they do not know how to react to the souvenir. But then, Mikhail smiled warmly and accepted the baskets with a thank you.
When they started to walk towards the man-made road that’s directly towards the outside of the forest, everyone seemed sentimental as their feet were somewhat heavy. Well, it was a whole week that they stayed in the forest, and even though they lasted for seven days, they barely had a conversation with Lord Dio and Lady Carmilla. The thing that they were attached to was the hotspot area. Many things happened in a span of one week, not just for Kronos but for everyone. Maybe that was the reason why they left the forest with a heavy heart as they were eating the dessert that the Lady gave them.
They were spacing out so much that Sir Samael personally opened each of their carriages with the use of his corpse just so to remind them that they were already in the Academy.
And who on earth would not be surprised when a corpse would slowly and creepily open the door? Of course, everyone expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Sir Samael, who brought them back to reality by scaring them to the point of almost shitting on their pants. But they managed to maintain their composure as soon as they got out of the carriage.
And to avoid rumors, the carriages were directly sent to their dormitory. That way, they had time to wash up and change into their uniforms before going into the hall, where all of the clubs were erecting their own stalls and recruiting members. The crowd was lively, and there were many students looking around. The Exi thought that it would be the same as before, that all eyes would be set on them. However, it was far from impossible in the current situation as everyone was fixated and excited about entering some clubs.
“Woah, look at the stalls,” Naouii commented as she looked around with an amusement present on her face.
With that being said, Kallen replied in a serious tone of voice as her eyes were glued at a particular stall. “Right, everyone was busy recruiting for members.”
It seems like the others were already done with picking a club, and all that’s left to do was to join. They also forgot their anxiety to get along with the other students, like how the other students ignore their existence. Because that day, the main event was club recruitment and club picking. Nothing else matters other than joining a club that shares the same interest as you.
Hence, after looking at the stalls and the atmosphere, Mikhail turned around to the other kids and smiled warmly. “Let’s split and go to the clubs that we want to join, shall we?”
“Alright!” Everyone replied merrily.
And with that, the class parted ways with each other. The others who already had a club in mind immediately headed towards their stalls while the others who wanted to explore walked and checked for each club to see where their interest would be.
The latter kind was Kronos and Astian, who were walking side by side while taking a look towards the stall. If one were to say, the stalls that were lined up left and right probably were more than twenty. Which was why it was difficult to pick a club that they thought they would be comfortable at.
“Kronos, what club do you have in mind?” Astian looked at Kronos as he stopped in the middle of the road.
With that being said, Kronos halted as he looked around. “Hmm.”
Actually, it was the first time for Kronos to join a club. In his past life, he never joined any club and was not interested in it either.
Unfortunately, it did not change. Kronos was still not thrilled by clubs that he merely looked around to see the colorful stalls and blankly pointed out one stall. “There.”
