The old ladyship Davis stormed forward and slapped him hard across the face. "You useless fool! Can't even keep an eye on your own family, and now you're here making a scene? Are you trying to give me a heart attack?"
Charles's head was ringing, and his cheek went completely numb.
Old fears flooded back, snuffing out the fiery anger in his veins with just that one slap.
