"Oh, my naive daughter, I can't believe your grandmother is so heartless. I have to go and reason with her!"
Quinn stomped her foot furiously, letting out a stream of curses, "I bet it's your uncle and his son stirring up trouble again, tarnishing your reputation in front of your grandmother!"
Just as Quinn was about to storm out, Charles quickly grabbed her, saying, "Quinn, this was Mom's decision. What good will it do to cause a scene now?"
"What good? Are we supposed to compromise every time? Are we just going to let them walk all over us? Charles, you're a man, for heaven's sake, and you're acting like a complete coward!" Quinn shouted at the top of her lungs.
Charles recoiled, not daring to make a sound.
Chelsea had no choice but to say, "Mom, Dad is right. Even if you make a fuss, it won't help!"
How could Chelsea possibly be content with this situation?
But the personnel decisions at Wealthy Estates were all up to her grandmother. Even if she was unwilling, she had no choice but to swallow her pride.
Suddenly, Sean got up from his makeshift bed.
"Don't worry, kiddo. You're the only one who can handle this project."
Quinn's anger flared up instantly at Sean's words, and she said coldly, "Ha! This is our family's business. What does it have to do with a useless person like you? No one would notice if you stayed silent!"
Seeing her mother treat Sean with such disdain and speak so rudely.
"Mom, could you please not talk to Uncle like that? He's a good person with no ill intentions. He's saying this for my sake. You all stop arguing. I'll figure something out myself," Chelsea said.
Quinn, still upset, wanted to scold Sean further, but Charles pulled her out of the room.
Chelsea walked to the door, closed it, and approached Sean, saying, "Uncle, I'm sorry. My mom just talks like that. Don't take it to heart..."
"Don't worry. If I took it to heart, I wouldn't have come into this house."
House?
Those words hit Chelsea right in the heart.
Does Uncle really see this place as his home?
"Facing ridicule every day, does it really not bother you at all?" Chelsea asked.
"You've endured more grievances than I have. What right do I have to complain?"
Hearing this, Chelsea stood there, tears welling up in her eyes.
Uncle, is he enduring all this because of me?
The next day, at Wealthy Estates.
Calvin, clad in a limited edition Gucci suit, stood confidently at the company entrance, embodying the perfect image, waiting for Zachary, the CEO of PurpleGold Group, to arrive.
Although the contract was agreed upon, it hadn't been signed yet. Today's goal was to officially sign it. More importantly, it was to get Zachary to accept the change in project leadership.
Calvin was confident. As the eldest grandson of the Davis family and future heir of Wealthy Estates, his status was unmatched by Chelsea!
A black Rolls-Royce approached.
Calvin, quick on his feet, recognized it as Zachary's car and hurried over, putting on a gentlemanly act, eagerly saying, "Hello, Zachary. I'm Calvin, the Davis family representative for this project."
Zachary extended his hand for a shake.
Calvin was overjoyed, thinking that a good start was half the battle won. Zachary must have already accepted the leadership change. It seemed Chelsea's successful negotiation was just luck, not that difficult.
"So, where's Ms. Davis?" Zachary asked, seemingly casually.
Calvin thought Zachary was just making small talk, so he made up an excuse, "She's not feeling well lately. I'll be handling all future collaborations with your esteemed company."
Zachary nodded, "In that case, let's wait until Ms. Davis recovers before we continue discussions."
With that, Zachary turned to get back into his car.
Calvin, still processing, saw Zachary about to leave and quickly chased after him, "Zachary, with me in charge, it's the same. Rest assured, I'm definitely more capable than Chelsea in collaborating with your company..."
Before he could finish, Zachary interrupted, standing by the car, "There are plenty of companies in River City eager to work with PurpleGold Group. Since the Davis family lacks sincerity, I'll reconsider this collaboration."
Calvin watched helplessly as Zachary's car disappeared down the road.
Calvin stood frozen, his mind spinning. He had assumed Zachary wouldn't care much about the change, but the man's firm stance had blindsided him.
"We need to rethink this partnership!" That single, curt sentence made Calvin's skin crawl.
The Davis family was merely a second-rate family in River City, with assets barely crossing the hundred million mark—a middling enterprise at best. Securing a deal with a billion-dollar conglomerate like PurpleGold was a rare opportunity. If this fell apart because of him, Old ladyship Davis would have his head.
What in the world was he supposed to do now?
He was in too deep!
If Old ladyship Davis found out, given her temper, the consequences would be unimaginable.
Was he really going to let that witch Chelsea come in and clean up his mess?
The very thought made him cringe. Just last night, he'd been boasting about kicking her out of the family business. Begging her to return and clean up this disaster would be the ultimate humiliation.
Just then, his phone rang. It was his father, Carter.
"Calvin, your grandmother is in the third-floor conference room. Has Mr. Johnson from PurpleGold not arrived yet?" Carter asked, his voice laced with smugness.
The old fox had orchestrated Chelsea's ousting to cement Calvin's position in the company through this partnership. If he pulled it off, the future of Wealthy Estates was his for the taking.
Hearing his father's words, Calvin felt a pit in his stomach. He replied, trembling, "Dad, I'm on my way up."
At Wealthy Estates, third-floor conference room.
The conference room buzzed with executives and family members; everyone was present. This collaboration with River City's leading enterprise, PurpleGold, was crucial, and the turnout was a clear sign of the Davis family's earnest intentions.
Old ladyship Davis sat at the head of the table, and as Calvin entered alone, she asked, "Calvin, has Mr. Johnson arrived?"
