Her blush hit fast, spreading across her cheeks in that way I was quickly becoming addicted to.
“Oh,” she said, that shy smile slipping through. “I didn’t forget.”
I didn’t think she did, but it was cute to watch her get all worked up.
I helped her onto the bike, taking a second longer than necessary just to make sure she was settled, my hands steady on her waist.
“Hold on,” I told her, like she needed the reminder.
Her arms wrapped around me instantly, natural as breathing, and I had to bite back a grin as I kicked the engine to life.
This ride back felt different than before. Sure, it was just as quiet, but it wasn’t awkward. She wasn’t nervous, but fuller. Happier. I could feel it.
