Chapter 1

1044 Words
(Isaac POV) I walked through the corridors of the hospital letting out a yawn. I had a really busy day with 3 major operations and consultations.  Waking up early in the morning and leaving late in the evening was now like a hobby for me. Getting calls in the night for some kind of emergency is normal for me. Being a doctor is hectic indeed but I love doing this job. I am also the youngest son of one of the most powerful mafia family. A fully trained fighter and expert in guns. Yea, I know what you are thinking. A mafia as a Doctor? I get that a lot from the mafia world. When I decided to study medicine, three fourth of the family was like- "A doctor?! Are you sure about that?" So yea, in conclusion, I can kill a person or save him. It depends on the situation. "Going home doctor?" a nurse asked as I pass by their resting office. "Yes. Dying to hit the bed. Had an early morning emergency." I said she smiled and nodded. Today morning I was woken up 4 in the morning because one of my patients went into a heart attack. The worst part was that I went to the club that night. I only had a few drinks but I stayed up till 1. So, all in all, it got 3 hours of sleep. I wanted to go home. I wanted to go home and fall into my heavenly and comfy bed. Once I reached my car, I took out my key and unlocked the door. That was when I heard a faraway echo of the ambulance. Within a minute, the ambulance rushed to the front of the causality. It seems like another emergency. I usually would ignore it and go home since my work time is over. There are other doctors in the hospital to take care of the patient. But I stood in my spot wanting to know what the emergency was. Something in my mind made me want to stay here. I watched as the ambulance back door abruptly open before the doctor and nurse jumped out. "He is getting worse. We had lost him 2 times!" the doctor shouted to the nurses who brought the stretcher. I kept my ear open as I wanted to hear the patient's medical history. "Take him to the operation theatre," the doctor said as the nurses nodded. The man was transferred to the stretcher and taken inside. He must be on his mid fifties, Semi bald, and was breathing very heavy. But what caught my attention was the girl who stepped out. She had reddish brown hair with beautiful light brown eyes. Freckles covered her cheeks and forehead. She wore light blue jeans and a shirt with high boots. She wiped her tears as she got out of the ambulance. She looked at the doctors clueless and worried as they kept talking to each other. "Is he going to be ok?" she asked but they were busy with keeping the man alive. "Is my dad going to be ok?" she asked again as one of them turned to her. "We are doing our best, Miss. Don't lose your hope" he said as they wheeled him inside. I didn't know why I was doing this but I immediately locked my car and followed them. I wanted to know more about the girl. "Please stay here, Miss," the doctor said as he wheeled the patient straight to the ICU. The girl nodded and stayed behind but you could see she didn't want to leave her father. She sat on one of the uncomfortable chairs and took out her phone. "Mom, Dad is taken straight to the ICU," she said on the phone. She had a bit of a strong accent almost of the country side. After a few more conversations on the phone, the door to the ICU opened and the doctor walked out. "Mom, I'll call you! The doctor is here" she said immediately before she ended the call and looked at the doctor with expectation. "I am sorry. We are taking him for an operation. You have to sign this before we start. His chances of survival are very low and the operation is very risky. Chances of survival are low" he said as the girl covered his mouth and started to cry. "I am sorry," he said to her but she wasn’t paying attention. I sighed as I got out of my hiding spot. My eyes felt heavy from tiredness but something in my heart was preventing him from going home. He didn't want to see her cry. "What is the case, Dr. Emmanuel?" I asked as the other doctor turned and looked at me in shock. "Dr. Isaac? What are you doing here?! Your shift ended an hour ago" he said as I nod my head. "Yes. But I saw an emergency so decided to stay behind just in case" I said as my eyes went to the red hair girl. "Doctor, he fell from his house terrace and injured his head. He has a severe brain injury but he is also a cardiac person. He went through a cardiac arrest earlier when he was being wheeled in" Doctor Emmanuel said as I nod in understanding. "Don't worry. Let me see what I can do" I said turning to her as she nods her head looking at me with expectation. "But you still need to sign this," I said to the girl as she nodded and took the paper with shaking hands. "Will he survive?" she asked me as I sighed. But as I opened my mouth to answer the other doctor interfered. "Dr. Isaac is the best surgeon. I am sure the chances of survival will increase if it's Doctor Isaac doing it" Dr. Emmanuel said as the girl nodded and looked straight into my eyes. "I believe in you," she said as I suddenly felt my heart beat more faster. What was that tug? I didn't know I was staring at her wide eyes when the doctor called my name. "Oh yes coming," I said as I glance at the girl one last time before walking to the operation room.
