Illyan POV
My hands shook as I stared into Alpha Asher's eyes.
His hands were gripping tightly the silver knife in my hands, and he had a very wicked and mischievous smirk which gave me the chills. Blood was dripping from his hands, but he didn't seem to care whatsoever. His eyes were focused on mine, grinning like he had won something and I just knew I had set up a trap and was caught in it as well. I gulped down hard, wondering how I was going to get out of this situation.
This evening when I was informed I was going to be the one waiting on Alpha Asher tonight, I was a bit skeptical but happy. I haven't even started working fully yet. I was given the opportunity to fulfill my mission.
Instead of rushing to Alpha Asher, I decided to go secure my silver knife which I had kept hidden, buried under the big cherry tree in the heart of the garden. Other tall trees were in front of it so it's hard to see if someone was there if standing from afar and especially not at night, so I was the perfect opportunity to go get the knife.
I successfully took it out of the spot. I buried it without getting caught, but I was very late at this point but I didn't mind. I didn't want to continue working nor will I have to once I kill the Alpha. It would be perfect if he was asleep once I arrived but just in case, I took along with me some strong sedative. I didn't rush to his chambers even though I knew It was going to take time just walking and not using my werewolf strength.
I arrived at his quarters in the east wing of the palace two (2) hours late and was ecstatic to find him asleep. To me, it seemed like my plan had worked, and I didn't have to do much, all I had to do at this point was kill him. His muscular back was facing me, begging me to stab it.
I almost laughed out loud at how easy this was and, because there was no security or anyone on alert, I foolishly dropped my guard, thinking everything is over for him. I was a fool, thinking it would be this easy to kill the Alpha king. How could I have thought that the Alpha king would have dropped his guard when he didn't trust me? I shouldn't have acted now, I should have waited a little longer instead of acting impulsively. Now what will he do to me? Will he kill me? Just firing me would be considered merciful. His grin does not give me much hope either.
I hand got weak and my grip on the knife loosened. I let go and stepped back, preparing to run away but he used his bloody hand and grabbed me, pulling me towards me and I fell into his hard chest.
He wrapped his other arm around my face, then used his bloodied hand to undo my bun.
“What were you trying to do, little lady?” He chuckled. From the tone of his voice, I could tell he wasn't taking this seriously, he was scared or concerned, instead, he was amused.
“Al… Alpha… Alpha Asher…” I stuttered, trying to think of what to say to him.
“What is your name?” He interrupted me to ask, he had a playful glee in his eyes, the window was open, and the moonlight shone through it, illuminating him in its glow. His piercing silver eyes glowed like a glow-worm, his auburn hair swayed around his shoulders from the gentle breeze coming in.
I finally understood why many she wolves, even from outside the pack, wanted to be his Luna. Not only is he powerful in strength and rank, he's also charismatic, calm and composed. Most of all, in this particular position, he was handsome.
My chest suddenly got a fuzzy feeling which I'd never felt before, it was foreign, but it almost seemed like fear because of how tight my chest felt. This could be because I was just caught red-handed by the Alpha king again today.
I had no excuse, and I wasn't going to try making one because I'm sure he's no fool. I underestimated him twice today, I couldn't do it the third time.
“I'm still waiting for your reply, sweetheart.” His voice was calm as the waters from a stream, it was low and deep and it tugged at my heart. Oddly, the feeling that I was going to die was gone, looking at him right now, it didn't seem like he had any plans for doing so. He tilted his head to the side, giving him room to kiss me whenever he wanted. He tucked a few strands of my hair behind my ear, staring at it like it was the most interesting thing in the world.
“Illyana.” I found myself saying but why was my voice low, almost like a whisper and since I know I'm not going to die, why is my heart still beating rapidly?
“Illyana … such a pretty name. Why does the owner of the name want to kill me?” he asked. So he truly doesn't remember me? He doesn't remember what he did to my family? This bastard! I felt my anger rising again but I was in utter shock by the words that came out of his mouth next, “I should be wondering that but I don't care.”
Ha! He doesn't care why someone wants to kill him?
“Nothing justifies trying to kill the Alpha king. Absolutely nothing.” He said, staring straight into my eyes. He sounded very cold and his playful demeanor was gone, it was as if he was daring me to speak up.
I bit my bottom lip to keep my words inside my mouth.
“Now, don't you think you should be punished for this?” He smirked. I think he already knows the perfect punishment for me and I had a sinking feeling that I knew what it was too.
From the predatory glow in his eyes to the smirk tugging at the corner of his lips to the intense atmosphere around us because of our close proximity, it's impossible not to know.
