Chapter 7: A True Hunter

(Maximo’s P.O.V) It’s eight o’clock when Allister calls a hunters' meeting at headquarters. We are sitting around the table when Slade walks in with a stone-cold look on his face. Allister leans back in his chair at the head of the table. “Well? What information do you have for me?” He says his patience wearing thin. Slade’s eye twitches. Allister sits up curious. “What is it?” He shouts. “I had eyes on your daughter at a restaurant in a mall about an hour and a half from here. She was dining with wolves.” Allister’s eyes turn deadly. “She was with them willingly it seemed and she noticed me and alerted them causing them to run out of the restaurant.” I tap my foot anxiously. “I had a clear shot of the wolf holding onto her but then she..” he pauses and Allister taps his finger on the table. “And then what? Dammit, tell us!” I yell jumping to my feet. Everyone’s eyes shoot to me except Allister. “Cool yourself, son.” He says calmly. Allister is like a dad to me. Considering my dad died when I was five. He was Allister’s best friend and he was killed by a werewolf during a hunt and Allister blamed himself. “Sir your daughter caught the arrow with her bare hand it was an inch away from the wolf’s back. It was almost superhuman.” That sounded more like a question than an observation. “When she walked past me in the restaurant she smelled of wolves!” Slade adds. “What are you insinuating?” Allister asks standing and walking over to Slade. Slade is a tough guy, I’ve never seen him scared. But the look in his eyes now as Allister walks over to him is a look of fear. “I think they might’ve turned her into a wolf,” Slade says. Allister’s hand twitched. He breathes in slowly and turns to walk away from Slade. Slade let’s put a sigh of relief. “You let her get away?” Allister asks eerily calmly. “I tried to follow them sir but..” before he can finish Allister turns around and punches Slade in the face knocking him to the ground. He beats his fist into his face multiple times and nobody does anything to stop it. I walk over to Allister. “That’s enough sir!” I yell and Allister freezes. Slade lies there on the floor motionless but wining in agony. His face is unrecognizable and bloody. Allister stumbles to his feet a horrifying look in his eyes as he looks at me. He’s about to say something but is interrupted by Slade coughing. “S..sir. They are taking her to Hawaii in two days. I..i.. don’t know wh..which part but that’s what I heard them say.” Slade stutters. He looks at Slade over his shoulder. “Get out of my sight before I finish you off.” He scoffs. Slade slowly pulls himself to his feet and stumbles out of the room. Allister sits back down in his seat. The room is so quiet now you can hear a pin drop. “What do you want to do sir?” Josh asks. “I want you and Max to go to Hawaii and search for them. I don’t want anyone trying to capture her or kill any of those wolves she is with. Who knows what they’ll do to her if we kill them while they are with her.” He says rubbing his swollen bloodied fist. “Get as much information about these wolves and their pack and location as you can and then report back to me.” He says turning his attention to me. “Don’t disappoint me, boy.” He says sternly. I nod my head assuring him I won’t. “I am going to find some rogue wolves in the area.” Allister snarks. “But why sir?” I ask. “Don’t you worry about that I told you I have a plan. Go check on Mrs. Smith I have things to do.” He orders. “Yes sir.” I shake my head and get to my feet. I leave headquarters and walk over to the Smith’s house. I walk up the porch steps and the house door is left open. I walk inside quietly. I hear Mrs. Smith on the phone with someone. I creep closer so I can hear. “She’s gone Cecil I don’t know know what to do.” She pauses. “Yeah no I cannot leave him he will hunt me down and kill me.” Is she talking about Allister? I think to myself “You know I left that life behind a long time ago I can practice fully anymore.” She whispers. “Practice what I whisper.” She gasps. “Cecil I have to go now, tell mother I love her. Goodbye.” She hangs up the phone and starts walking towards the door. “Max it’s you.” She breaths a sigh of relief. “Sorry to scare you Mrs Smith. Allister asked me to come check on you.” I tell her. “He sent you to spy on me.” She laughs. I want to ask her about her conversation on the phone but I decide it’s best to act as if I heard nothing. “Did you guys find anything out about Ivy’s whereabouts?” She asks me as she signals for me to follow her into the kitchen. She starts getting mugs for coffee. “Slade had eyes on her with some wolves at a restaurant at the mall in the next town over but she saw him and alerted the wolves and they ram. Slade said she caught one of his arrows and it seemed almost superhuman, super natural the way she caught it.” She freezes while pouring the coffee into the mugs. “Superhuman?” She says eerily. “Slade thinks they turned her.” “Impossible!” She says and the coffee spills over. “s**t!” She yells and grabs a dish towel. “Why is it impossible Mrs Smith?” I ask walking over to her to help clean up the mess. She shakes her head. “I just mean she can’t be a wolf her father, he won’t accept her as such after she returns. He’ll kill her Max.” She says turning to me with sad eyes. “She’s my only child.” She plead with me. I put a hand on her shoulder. “I’m sure things will be just fine.” I say assuringly. “Would you still love her if she was a creature?” She asks me and I pause. The hunter in me wants to say no but the human in me says other wise. I stay quiet fighting the thoughts of killing her if she’s a wolf. “Exactly what I thought Max. You’re a hunter by blood you cannot fight that. Neither can Allister or any of the others. It’s a supernatural curse over you men that controls your minds. It’s something you cannot fight.” She looks at me with disappointment. “I was hoping you would not activate your inner hunter so you could be the compassionate human being that I watched grow up, the guy Ivy loved.” She whispers. “I don’t want what happened to your father to happen to you. Your mother is one of my dearest friends. I don’t want her to lose her last son to hunting.” Her words make me think of my brother Mason. He’s not dead but he left home to become an international hunter and we haven’t seen him in almost five years. “She’s already lost your father and Mason, you are all she has left Max.” Her words spark thoughts in my head about my own humanity and my mother being left alone. She truly hasn’t been okay since losing dad and Mason leaving. “I am not my father or my brother Mrs. Smith. I do not intend to be like them. I intend to be better than them.” I say to her and she smiles sadly. “Yes I’m sure of it.” She responds. “Why don’t you go on home and see your mother.” She suggests. I agree and finish helping her with the mess. “I’ll probably be seeing you in a week or so Allister is sending me and Josh to Hawaii because that’s a lead of where Ivy is being taken.” I tell her. She hugs me motherly. “Just be careful Max. And don’t trust Allister too much. He’s ruthless.” She looks me in the eyes when she says this. I nod. “I’ll be seeing you Mrs. Smith.” I wave her goodbye and leave headed home to see my mom. (Ramona’s P.O.V) I watch as max makes his way down the porch steps and up the street. “That was a close one.” I think to myself. If Allister had heard my phone conversation then he’d gone crazy. I lock the house door and activate the security system. I go upstairs to my bedroom and sit down at my vanity. I look in the mirror and then close my eyes focusing my energy evenly. When I open them back they are glowing. “Yes I’ve still got it.” Whisper. “Now let’s find you Ivy.” I say. I wave my hands in circles around the mirror and hum an incantation. I say it over and over again until my reflection fizzles away and the image of Ivy focuses on the mirror. She’s sitting down in a garden of some sort talking to a handsome young man with dirty blonde hair. I concentrate even further so that I can hear their words. “Have you only shifted that one time?” He asks her. “Yeah just the one time and it was impulsive my wolf pushes herself forward I had no control over it.” She says shyly to him. “My daughter is a wolf.” I whisper to myself. Fear creeping up my bones. “I can help you control your shift if you want.” He says to her in a friendly voice. “Could we practice now ?” She asks eagerly. He smiles at her. “Lets go now.” He says and then I hear Allister’s car pull in the drive way. “s**t!” I think and the connection I had breaks. I look in the mirror the glow in my eyes fading away. “I have to protect Ivy.” I think to myself. Allister comes up stairs and kicks his filthy boots off on the floor. “Where are you coming from?” I ask. He strips from his muddy clothes down to his underwear and tosses them to the corner of the room and that’s when I see his new tattoo it’s a bow and two arrows formed from geometric shapes it’s the sign of a true hunter. He eyes me suspiciously. “What are you looking at woman?” He asks sternly. “Your new tattoo.” I reply and step closer to get a better look. He raises his eyebrow at me as I reach my hand out to touch the tattoo adorning his left bicep. As soon as my hands meet his arm I am zapped my some static electricity. “You shocked me.” I say snatching my hand away. He twists his face up and then smirks. “Maybe we just still have that spark after all of these years.” He chuckles and grabs my chin softly with his hand. “I’m going to go shower I had a hell of a meeting with some rogue varmint.” He say’s nonchalantly and walks into the bathroom. I follow behind him as he turns on the shower and removes his boxers. Allister has a pretty smoking body but I haven’t been attracted to him in years and he hasn’t noticed either. “Why were you meeting with rogues?” I question. “Because I recently discovered a piece of land that I cannot go into. It’s cloaked from hunters and I think there’s a werewolf pack there. The one that’s got Ivy.” He says a little more stern. “So what are the rogues going to do?” I step closer to the shower now he has his head under the water. “They are going to infiltrate the land and see if there’s a pack there and if there is I’ve instructed them to kill as many people as possible and to deliver a message to their leader.” The coldness in his voice is nothing new to me. “But what if they kill Ivy?” I ask. Allister grunts annoyed. “Take your f*****g clothes off and stop with the damn questions.” He eyes me angrily now. I roll my eyes. I know I’ve f****d up now questioning him so much. His eyes grow darker and he steps out the shower water dripping everywhere. His hardened member stands at attention as he closes in on me. “Allister please.” I beg. “I said take these f*****g clothes off now!” He shouts and then rips off my tshirt. My breasts fling loose and he gets a lustful look in his eye. He wraps one hand around my waist and the other he uses to grab my breast. He bites on my neck aggressively and nibbles on my ear. “It’s been a while since I’ve had what’s mine.” He says huskily. “Can I have it willingly or do I have to take it?” I pull away from him a bit disgusted completely by him. I unbutton my jeans and slide them off. “Good little witch.” He whispers and I would’ve missed it if I hadn’t been right in front of him. I look up at him shocked. “Oh don’t be surprised. I’ve known all along just what you are. But you’re my wife so I can’t harm you.” His voice changes to something sincere. I haven’t heard him talk this way since early in our marriage. “I’m not going to kill you Mona.” He says sliding his hand into the front of my panties. “Just like I know you would do me no harm.” He says shoving two fingers in and out of me aggressively. I want to keep my composure but my body deceives me and a soft moan escapes my lips. “You’re mine! He says gripping my waist hard. “Allister you’re hurting me!” I whine. “And you hurt me all of those years ago when you disappeared for months.” He says his voice growing cold. He pulls me into the shower and turns me around slamming the front of my body against the wall. “Allister I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I try to rebuttal. He rips my panties off and slaps my ass hard. “You say you don’t know but what you don’t know is that I know everything. I know all of your secrets Mona.” He grips my hair yanking my head back onto his shoulder as he adjusts himself right out side of my entrance. “Please Alli.” He slams his way into me over and over again. “I know everything about you woman!” He says as he pounds me faster and harder. Tears pooling in my eyes. He grips my hair and digs his nails into my sides as he grunt with every thrust. I feel no satisfaction from him what so ever. I close my eyes and focus my energy on my breathing. Before I know it Allister is grunting and groaning and pulling himself off of me. Bastard can’t even last long. “Clean yourself up.” He whispers in my ear and leaves the bathroom shutting the door behind him. I drop to my knees as the hot water over comes my body. “I’ll get my revenge soon enough.” I think to myself.
