When I was 18, I started to build hobbies and the way for me to support them was to ask for financial help from my grandmother. We were not a wealthy family, I would say we were an average family in terms of finance. to sum it all up, my hobbies were too expensive and I was unable to pursue them because I had no source of income to continue doing my hobbies. To give you an example of my hobbies, I love to paint I was also doing photography and sometimes I do spoken word poetry in bars.
As much as I would love to pursue my hobbies, I can't. I didn't have a job and I had no money to buy things that I need. Basically, our financial state cannot afford my hobbies. I know this is not that big of a deal for some but for me, it was a struggle.
I was passionate to do what I love and I know that I can't rely on my grandmother financially to support me with my hobbies, which is why I decided to get a job. The first job that I got was a dishwasher in a local restaurant near our place, the salary that I got was barely enough to support me and my hobbies.
I was then hired as a waiter at a bar and the salary there was bigger than what I was getting as a dishwasher and to me, it was a huge amount of money already. I was able to continue doing the things that I love, I was able to attend some spoken word poetry gigs as well because of my job. the thing that I loved the most as a waiter was the lesson that it can give you. As a waiter I had to bring my attitude down, I had to lower down my pride, my ego, me, as a person. It sounds like I'm exaggerating it but I promise you it's not. You need to have a certain kind of attitude to be a waiter.
It might sound like I'm just working for money, but it's not. I had to work because I know for myself that if I don't do anything to support the things that I love to do, no one else will help me. Which is why I made the initiative to move and do something which resulted to something good because it helped me pursue my hobbies and it also supported me financially.
To cut the story short. The moral here is that if I did not do anything, I would still be stuck to where I was before, a freeloader, a nothing. I took a step forward and I was able to go all the way.
In life, if you don't do something, you will receive nothing. We will be stuck in our current position if you don't have the initiative to make something happen. Your life might not be in a good position right now, but I can guarantee you that it's not the end of the line yet. You can do something with your life, you just need to make a move take the first step, and get your life moving.
Without the initiative to do something, you will get nothing.
