As I left Jared’s office with tears in my eyes, I headed for the door that led to the basement. I saw Conner give me a weird look and I shook my head. I flipped the light switch on and walked down the stairs, with my heart breaking with every step. Jared had sent me away all because I accidentally disrupted an important phone call. The way he looked at me reminded me of the way he used to be before he accepted me.
The door to my old room was shut and I put my hand on the knob, forcing a sob back down my throat. I turned it open, walked in and then shut it again. There was still a pillow on the bed and a blanket, so I knew that I wouldn’t be cold tonight, but after sleeping with Jared and having his heat all night, this would be hard.
