CHAPTER FIFTEEN

He had already waited for her to return, but it had taken a very long time, unlike her. He became very restive, and then he picked up the phone, called her line, but no one answered. "If she were to work overtime, she would have informed me earlier as she always does. What could be the problem tonight?" he soliloquised. He kept pacing in the sitting room, and constantly checked the time. He picked up the phone again, and called repeatedly, yet no one answered. After the tenth call, he resorted to going to her workplace in order to find out what the problem was. "Where is the woman?" "She's in the room, boss." Sani went into the room, and ordered that the veil on her face be removed. As soon as he saw her, he recognised her. Some months ago, Dr Zainab treated his mother in the hospital without any deposit. Then, when Sani heard that his mother was at the hospital, he visited the hospital, and cleared the hospital bill. He was very grateful to Dr Zainab for not letting his mother die even without any payment was initially made. Another thing that intrigued him was that, Zainab never accepted any incentive from him. Upon remembering that, he angrily left the room, then sat down in the sitting room. His men were agape. They never knew what was wrong. They started searching inwardly to know where they had gone wrong. He kept quiet for three or so minutes, while his men kept looking at him, showing that they needed to hear him speak. Then, he finally asked them to sit. "What can you do for someone who once saved your beloved mother's life?" he asked. One of them hastily replied: Boss, it's to also save the person's life when you have the opportunity. He got to the hospital, and began to ask about his wife, but the only report he could get was that she left as soon as the night workers took over duty. As this was going on, some of her colleagues, who were nonchalant about it could only smirk and remained focused in doing their work, while some really showed empathy. He requested for the clinical chief's phone number. As soon as he typed the number, his phone rang, shockingly it was his wife. "Hello, babe!" "Hello, honey! Where are you?" "I'm at your workplace now." "I'm waiting for you at home, please." He was really excited, so he broke the news to everyone at the hospital. "It's my wife; she's at home now." That was the last statement he made before he dashed out of the hospital. Some of her colleagues who were nonchalant, rushed out to get the latest. "Has she returned?" one of them asked. "How will I know! Aren't we here together?" the woman at the desk quipped.
