CHAPTER 2

256 Words
Anna sat alone in her apartment, staring blankly at the TV screen. The sound of laughter and chatter from the neighbors’ party next door filled her small, cramped apartment. She wished she could be a part of the festivities, but she knew she couldn't. It was the same old story, she had faked happiness for so long that she didn't even know what real happiness felt like anymore. Anna's life had always been a bit of a mess. Growing up, she struggled with low self-esteem and depression. She never felt like she fit in with her peers and always felt like she was lacking something that made her feel complete. As she grew older, Anna became better at pretending that everything was okay. She put on a brave face, always wore a smile, and pretended that everything was just fine. Anna had become so good at pretending that even her closest friends didn't realize that she was faking her happiness. She was always the life of the party, making jokes and laughing with her friends. But as soon as she was alone, the mask came off and she was left feeling empty and alone. It wasn't until Anna met Tom that she thought she might have found someone who could understand her. Tom was kind, thoughtful, and attentive. He listened to her when she spoke and made her feel like she was important. For the first time in her life, Anna felt like she might have found someone who could love her for who she was.
