Ryan finally called Victoria.
"Where is Cynthia? Why didn't she come today?"
"Ryan," Victoria said coldly from her office, "the engagement cancellation notice was sent to you two weeks ago. Didn't you know?"
"What?" Ryan panicked. "Why didn't I know about this?"
Before he could ask anything else, Victoria hung up. She had no interest in speaking to the man who had shattered her sister's heart.
Ryan felt as if he had been punched to the ground. He forced himself to recall the details he had ignored, and only then did he remember the moments when Cynthia had tried to speak but hesitated. At the time, he had been too distracted by Chloe to notice.
For the first time, Ryan felt uneasy, yet he still refused to believe it. Cynthia had loved him for nine years. How could she suddenly stop?
