Not one but two

1105 Words
“Good morning, Laura!” I turn around and see Ginny approaching me. Ginny is one of my friends from work. I have very few friends at work, only two actually. Ginny is an accountant. We went to university together. There is also James who is a publicist, he travels a lot, so we rarely get to see him. Ginny introduced me to James when I joined Lex Co. two years ago. “Hi Ginny,” I give her a bright smile. She comes closer and stops right in front of me. “I love the glow, the weekend away really paid off yeah?” she asks. “Oh yes it did,” I smile as we walk towards the elevator. “Mmmm care to tell me about it?” Ginny asks. We walk into the elevator and pin in our floors. Finance department is on the ninth floor and marketing on the thirteenth. “We can catch up over lunch. My boss has asked to see me immediately, something about the new finance and sales managers, so I am rushing there now.” I explain to Ginny. If Ginny and I start talking about my weekend with the girls, and the sexy stranger I hooked up, we may need the entire morning because Ginny is not different from the girls, she will keep asking me for the same details repeatedly. “Another thing we need to talk about. The new finance manager is so hottttt.” Ginny gashes over the said new finance manager, but I am sure his not as handsome as my one-night stand stranger, Noah. “I will see you at lunch then.” I give her a smile as the elevator stops at her floor. “See you.” She walks out with a smile and then spins around to face me. “By the way you look hot.” She winks at me and then walks away. I decided to wear something bright today, a red sleeveless pencil dress with a slit in the back with black, red bottom heels. Since I walked into the Lex Co. building a few minutes ago, I have had heads turning and a few compliments coming my way. I picked the perfect dress with my current hair do. I chopped my hair into a blunt bob and then dyed it blond over a month ago. My hair has grown so the dark roots are showing, my hair is all curled up making me look sexy with a smokey eye shadow and a red lip. The elevator doors open, and I step out. “God morning Laura.” One of the salespersons greets me. “Good morning,” I give them a smile and keep walking towards my office. I get to my office and the moment I put my handbag and laptop bag on my desk, my boss Mr. Kran walks in right after me. “Laura, morning. Please come with me to the conference room. I want you to meet the new guys before your day starts.” He says. “Good morning, sir, sure.” I follow him out as he leads the way. Mr. Kran is heading towards our conference room. Each floor in this building has a conference room that accommodates about twenty people. Enough for all the marketing and sale’s staff on this floor and more. Mr. Kran walks in first and I follow him. As I walk into the conference room, my heart starts pounding with anticipation. I am getting that nervous feeling about being new. I hate being new in any place, it makes me so nervous. But I don’t understand why I am nervous today I am not the new staff. As I take my seat at the conference table, the door swings open and Bryan enters the room. My heart skips a beat as memories of our past flood back. We had dated for three years back in college while I was in first year and he was in his third. I can feel my palms getting sweaty as he approaches me with a smile. "Hi Laura, it's great to see you," he says, extending his hand with a huge smile. Even after three years he still smiles at me the same way he did when we first met. "Nice to see you too, Bryan," I reply, trying to keep my composure. “You two have met?” Mr. Kran asks with a surprised face. “Yes, back in college.” Bryan keeps it short. Thank you for that. I don’t want my boss to know I dated our new Sales Manager. Bryan was a good guy, he was my first everything. I lost my virginity to him after a month of dating. My girlfriends hated him, and I thought I was in love with him and would marry him some day. When we broke up three years ago, he got a job in Toronto and asked me to quit college and follow him. I loved him but there was no way I was going to pull out of school to follow him to another country. The breakup was a bit messy, we both said things we shouldn’t have and we missed each other as we both felt each other’s absence after he was gone for a month. We talked about getting back together if he ever returned to the states and here, he is now. I am single but I have no intensions of honoring my word, Bryan was a manipulative control freak and breaking up with him was the best choice I ever made. Why did I even agree to get back with him again if we ever met? “Ahh…… Noah, there you are.” I hear Mr. Kran speak. I turn my head towards the door as he walks in. Of all the people to walk in right now really? My heart rate skyrockets to the sky. Why of all people does it have to be him? His eyes meet mine. I feel my face turn red as memories of our night and morning flood back. "Good morning, Miss." he says, taking the seat next to Bryan, opposite Mr. Kran and I. “Good morning.” Who would have thought that today was the day I would meet the new sales manager, Bryan, and the new finance manager, Noah. Little do they know I have had a complicated history with both. I can feel the tension between us as we sit there, pretending that nothing had happened between us. It is going to be a long and complicated working relationship.
