Episode 4

Aria's consciousness returned in fragments. The soft hum of medical equipment. The sterile scent of antiseptic. A warm hand clasping hers. She fought through the fog of confusion, forcing her eyes open. "Welcome back, sleeping beauty," a familiar voice murmured. Aria blinked, her vision clearing to reveal Damon sitting beside her bed. He looked pale and drawn, but alive. Relief flooded through her. "Damon," she breathed. "You're okay." A shadow crossed his face. "Thanks to you, apparently. Though I'm not sure 'okay' is the right word for either of us right now." Memories crashed over Aria like a tidal wave. The attack. The chase. Her mother. The revelation of her true heritage. She bolted upright, ignoring the wave of dizziness that accompanied the sudden movement. "Where are we? Where's my mother? And Zane? What's going on?" Damon gently pushed her back against the pillows. "Easy. We're in a secure location. Your mother and Zane are here too, along with a few others you should meet. But first, we need to talk." Aria's heart raced. "About the fact that I'm your niece? Or that I'm supposedly the heir to some legendary werewolf bloodline? Or maybe about how you rejected me despite knowing I was your mate?" Pain flashed in Damon's eyes. "All of the above. Aria, I'm so sorry. I never wanted to hurt you. I thought I was protecting you by pushing you away." "Protecting me from what?" Aria demanded. Damon sighed, running a hand through his disheveled hair. "From the target that's been on my back since the day I was born. From the weight of a destiny neither of us asked for. From a war that's been brewing for centuries." He stood, pacing the small room. "When I realized you were my mate, I panicked. I thought if I rejected you, you'd be safe. That you could live a normal life, free from all this madness. I never imagined..." "That I was part of it all along," Aria finished softly. Damon nodded, his expression haunted. "If I had known you were my brother's daughter, I never would have... God, Aria, I'm so sorry." Aria's emotions warred within her – anger at being kept in the dark, confusion about her newfound heritage, and an undeniable pull towards the man before her, despite everything. "I need answers," she said finally. "Real answers. No more half-truths or noble sacrifices. I deserve to know everything." Before Damon could respond, the door opened. Zane entered, followed by Evelyn and two people Aria didn't recognize – an elderly man with kind eyes and a young woman who looked eerily like an older version of Aria herself. "I believe we can help with that," the elderly man said, his voice gentle but commanding. "It's time you learned the truth about your family, Aria. About the Alpha Prime. And about the war that's been raging in secret for generations." The group settled around Aria's bed, an air of solemnity falling over the room. Aria sat up straighter, steeling herself for whatever revelations were to come. The elderly man spoke first. "My name is Elias, and I am the Keeper of our people's history. This," he gestured to the young woman, "is Sophia, your cousin and Damon's daughter." Aria's eyes widened. She hadn't known Damon had a child. Sophia offered a small smile. "Hi, Aria. It's good to finally meet you. I just wish it were under better circumstances." Elias continued, his voice taking on a rhythmic quality, as if reciting an oft-told tale. "Long ago, when the world was young and magic flowed freely, the Moon Goddess blessed a single wolf with extraordinary power. This wolf became known as the Alpha Prime, the progenitor of all werewolves." "The Alpha Prime's bloodline was meant to unite and lead our people," Evelyn added. "But over time, those who feared the power of a united werewolf nation worked to suppress and divide us." Zane picked up the thread. "For centuries, the descendants of the Alpha Prime have been hunted, forced into hiding or manipulated to prevent them from claiming their birthright. Your father, Aria, was one such descendant. As is Damon. And now, you." Aria's head spun with the implications. "But why me? Why now?" "Because you're different," Sophia said, leaning forward. "You're the first in generations to inherit the full power of the Alpha Prime. The mate bond between you and my father... it wasn't a mistake. It was meant to awaken your true potential." Damon flinched at the mention of their mate bond, guilt etched across his features. Elias nodded gravely. "The prophecy speaks of a time when two of the bloodline would be bound as mates, uniting the fractured powers of our ancestors. You and Damon are the fulfillment of that prophecy." "Which is why so many want you both dead," Zane added bluntly. Aria's mind raced, trying to process everything. "The attack at the gala... Damon's fiancée..." "A ploy," Evelyn confirmed. "Orchestrated by those who wish to keep the packs divided. They hoped to eliminate Damon before your bond could fully form." "But they failed," Sophia said, a fierce glint in her eye. "And now, we have a chance to change everything. To unite the packs, to reclaim our heritage, to bring peace to our world." Aria looked around the room, at these people who had known her true identity all along. Anger bubbled up inside her. "Why keep this from me for so long? Why lie?" Evelyn reached for her daughter's hand. "To protect you, sweetheart. We hoped... we hoped you might be spared this burden. That you could live a normal life." "Fat lot of good that did," Aria muttered. Damon stepped closer, his expression earnest. "Aria, I know we've hurt you. Lied to you. But right now, we need you. Our people need you. Will you help us?" Aria closed her eyes, feeling the weight of expectation pressing down on her. When she opened them again, her gaze was steel. "I'll help. But on one condition." "Name it," Damon said immediately. "No more secrets. No more lies. From any of you." Aria's gaze swept the room. "I want to know everything. Every detail you've kept hidden. Every player in this twisted game. And then, we do this my way." A moment of silence followed her declaration. Then, one by one, they nodded in agreement. "Where do you want to start?" Elias asked. Aria's eyes locked with Damon's. "From the beginning. Tell me about my father. Tell me about the brother you lost." As Damon began to speak, his voice low and filled with old pain, Aria steeled herself for the truth she'd been denied for so long. Whatever came next, whatever battles lay ahead, she would face them head-on. She was Aria Hart, heir of the Alpha Prime. And it was time to claim her destiny. ---
