Chapter Ten: The Power of the Moon Bond

957 Words
The pillar of silver light pierced the heavens. Every werewolf in the Valley of Spirits fell silent. The wind stopped. Even the Blood Moon seemed to pause in the night sky. Lyla remained on her knees, cradling Kael's motionless body in her arms. Tears streamed down her face, falling onto his chest where the mark of their mate bond glowed like liquid silver. "Please," she whispered. "Don't leave me." The light around them grew brighter. Then, a familiar voice echoed through the valley. "True love is the greatest gift the Moon Goddess has ever given her children." The Moon Goddess appeared within the silver light, her flowing robes shimmering like starlight. She looked at Lyla with compassion. "You have chosen love over hatred." She turned to Kael. "And sacrifice over revenge." The goddess gently touched Kael's forehead. A wave of silver energy flowed through his body. His wounds began to close. His breathing returned. His eyes slowly opened. "Lyla..." She gasped in relief. "Kael!" He smiled weakly. "You came back." "I promised I would." Unable to hold back her emotions any longer, Lyla threw her arms around him. For a long moment, neither of them cared that hundreds of warriors were watching. The hatred that had once divided them had disappeared. Only love remained. --- The Blood Moon King roared in fury. "No!" "This cannot happen!" He raised both hands, drawing power from the Blood Crystal. Dark red lightning shot into the sky. The crystal pulsed violently. Cracks spread across the valley floor. Arkan's eyes widened. "The crystal is becoming unstable!" "If it explodes..." "The entire valley will be destroyed." Kael helped Lyla to her feet. "We have to destroy it before he absorbs its power." --- Nearby... Alpha Rowan and Malachi continued their fierce duel. Steel clashed against steel. Malachi laughed. "You were always too weak to rule." Rowan blocked another strike. "I never wanted power." "Exactly." Malachi sneered. "That is why Father chose you." His words stunned Rowan. "What?" Malachi's eyes burned with resentment. "I was the stronger son." "The smarter son." "But Father believed you had the better heart." His grip tightened around his sword. "So I took everything from you." "You murdered your own brother." "I erased my own family." "And I would do it again." Rowan lowered his head. Tears filled his eyes. "You stopped being my brother long ago." With a powerful swing, Rowan knocked Malachi's sword from his hand. The blade skidded across the stone. Malachi stumbled backward. For the first time, fear appeared in his eyes. --- The Blood Moon King saw his opportunity. "You have failed me." He stretched out one hand. Dark chains of crimson energy shot toward Malachi. "My king!" The chains wrapped around him. "You promised me power!" "I promised you nothing." The Blood Moon King smiled coldly. "You were only ever a pawn." Before anyone could react, the chains pulled Malachi toward the Blood Crystal. "No!" He struggled desperately. "Please!" The crystal absorbed him completely. His scream echoed through the valley before fading into silence. The Blood Crystal glowed brighter than ever. The Blood Moon King laughed triumphantly. "His life strengthens me!" --- The mountain shook violently. Massive boulders crashed down the cliffs. Warriors scrambled for safety. Arkan turned to Kael. "Listen carefully." "There is only one way to end this." Kael nodded. "I'm listening." "The Moon Blossom healed Lyla." "The Moon Bond awakened your true strength." "But the Blood Crystal can only be destroyed by the combined power of two destined mates." Lyla stepped beside Kael. "What must we do?" Arkan looked at them solemnly. "You must willingly unite your wolves, your hearts, and your spirits." Kael took Lyla's hand. "I trust you." She smiled through her tears. "I trust you too." The silver mark on their wrists began to glow. The Moon Goddess raised her hands. "Then let your hearts become one." A warm light surrounded Kael and Lyla. Their wolves emerged beside them—not as separate beings, but as radiant spirits of black and silver. The wolves circled one another before merging into a single magnificent wolf made of moonlight. The creature lifted its head and released a howl so powerful that it echoed through every mountain in the werewolf kingdoms. Every wolf present instinctively bowed. Even Alpha Rowan and Darius lowered their heads. The Blood Moon King stepped backward. "No..." "Impossible..." The Moon Wolf charged. Its body became a streak of silver light. It struck the Blood Crystal with tremendous force. A deafening crack echoed through the valley. One fracture. Then another. Then dozens. The crystal began to shatter. The Blood Moon King screamed. "My power!" He reached desperately for the crystal. But it was too late. The Blood Crystal exploded into countless fragments of crimson light that dissolved into the night sky. The Blood Moon slowly began to fade, replaced by the gentle silver glow of the full moon. The ancient king fell to his knees. His armor cracked. The darkness surrounding him disappeared. For the first time in centuries, he looked old. Very old. He stared at Kael and Lyla. "It was never your strength..." He whispered. "It was your love." With those final words, his body turned into silver dust and was carried away by the wind. Silence filled the valley. The war was over. The curse had been broken. The Blood Moon had fallen. Kael looked at Lyla and smiled. "We did it." She leaned against him, exhausted but happy. "No." She squeezed his hand. "We did it... together." As the first rays of dawn appeared over the Frostpeak Mountains, every werewolf present realized that a new era had begun—one no longer built on hatred and vengeance, but on truth, unity, and hope.
