Lycans.
They were the direct descendants of the Moon Goddess—her most powerful creation. After them came werewolves, then vampires, witches, fae, gnomes, trolls, and the rest.
Once, all creatures lived in peace. We paid due respect to the Lycans, and above all, to the Lycan King, who ruled over every race. Each species had its own rulers, of course, but even they bowed to him.
But Lycans were different from werewolves, though the two were often mistaken as the same.
A werewolf was a shapeshifter, bound to the full moon or to moments of danger. They lived with two personalities…the human self and the wolf within. That wolf could speak, command, and even take over, sometimes trapping the man inside forever.
